  1. Looks like time to pop in my copy of UHF and watch it again.

Then Microsoft bought them and it became Halo this and Halo that. At least they were allowed to leave and reform privately in 2007.
  4. At least yours says something. Sometimes I simply get garbled texted like loading up an picture in notepad. Hasn't done it recently.

    Edit:
Odd. It limits it to about 63 fps. It's better but behaves exactly like the other game that I played. Strange how a set value doesn't actually mean it will be the value you think.
That may be a caused by how precise the game measures time. If it's 1/1000ths then 60 Hz might be measured as 0.016 which when you invert and round up is 63.
  6. If you are connecting to an LCD monitor it would depend if you are connecting with a DVI cable or VGA. DVI output tends to be limited to 60Hz, regardless how "fast" the monitor is. A VGA connection may be around 72 Hz but you should be able to check the signal's refresh rate from one of the monitor's on screen displays.

The animations in the games and client are designed around 30FPS so in theory you shouldn't "need" to be any faster than that.

You can use the /maxfps command to cap your framerate.
  7. MSE is good for users who only know of Norton and McAfee, have run out of their free updates with them and are are frightened over "free" AV software with names or from companies they never heard of. You tell them it's from Microsoft and they go OK. Good for parents and grandparents you don't want to provide support for.

AV-Comparatives gave it their best rating along for proactive detection and impact to system performance and next tier for detecting what was already on the system.

    AV-Test gave it a 4.0 for protection, a 4.5 for repair and a 5.5 for usability on a scale of 6.

Note that someone in the comments says they got a virus from the DeviantArt page that has the originals, seems unlikely but haven't tested it myself. (Just got rid of some bad stuff in my PC so I'm a bit gun-shy.)
Those are pretty nice. And some are even doable in our game.
  9. Also the GTX 460 uses a lot less power and the 1MB version of the GTX 460 beats the GTX 465 in a lot of games.
  10. Well it's possible your video driver got corrupted. Also it's "old".

Sorry I'm not to verse in laptop drivers or if ATI has versions for the HD 5870 mobility. So check both Asus's and ATI site for newer drivers.

    Heroes 911

I was working all morning and when I went to check CNN while I was doing a full build, and CNN wouldn't come up. Then I tried FoxNews and it wouldn't come up either. Same was true with CBS. I simply thought the IT guys were messing with the gateway. I tried CNN one more time and all I got was a garbled page with the headline about the WTC being hit. I thought someone hacked CNN's home page.

So I went to Slashdot to see if they had a story about CNN being hacked and it came up fine with the story and links to news outlets in Canada and the UK which weren't being crushed by all the US traffic. We generally couldn't really get radio reception at our desks. Someone with a boombox they used as a CD player was able to tune in the local AM news channel once we moved it to the conference room (it was along the edge of the building with windows, got better reception). We were all listening with the first tower fell.

We really didn't get a lot of work done the rest of the day. Last time that happened was when we lost Challenger in 1986.
  12. Well at least it's not a question about the right joystick (or was it the left) not working.

I'm guessing that not a lot of players who use the XBox controller, which aren't a lot to begin with, use Xpadder.
  13. nVidia quietly got their manufacturing partners to lower the GTX 460 768MB version to $179 from $199. That's HD 5770 price territory with better than HD 5830 performance.

Edit: Yes, the 768MB version does run slightly better than the 1GB HD 5830 head to head. Comparing stock clock to stock clock. Still it's not a total victory as some games still ran better on the HD 5830.

I tend to check multiple sources before declaring A is better/worse than B, it helps to eliminate biases. Unless all these sites are part of "the vast nVidia conspiracy".

No but "Horatio Kenobi" or "CSI: Tatooine" didn't feel right.
  15. Oh geez, SMACK, how could I've forgotten to include anything by Osamu Tezuka, the God of Manga. Of course Astro Boy counts.

Toss in Leiji Matsumoto's universe of Captain Harlock/Queen Emeraldas/Galaxy Express 999 and Go Nagai's Mazinger Z and Getter Robo iconic giant robot series.

Well Jay aka Sexy Jay aka JLove is the dev in charge of the costume parts. It's up to you if you rather not post to the thread he asked players to post to about costume part problems.
  17. There are few iconic characters. However there are a number of iconic long running franchises whose characters are well known.

    Space Battleship Yamato
Gundam, the original Universal Century universe
    Lupin III
    Cutey Honey

Those have been around 30 or more years. For less time but iconic during it's era.

    Dragonball
    Sailor Moon
    Patlabor
    Ranma 1/2
    Dirty Pair
    Urusei Yatsura
    One Piece
    Bleach
    Naruto
  18. Devs rarely respond here.

You need to /bug this in game and you may be better off posting in Jay's Costume Bug Fix List (Post Issue 14) thread on the dev board.
  19. Walking into a bookstore and randomly picking title off of the manga racks is like going to your public library and randomly picking a book out of the fiction section. Manga is simply a story medium and can cover the entire range of genres and target ages. You go into the western TPB section and 95% is one DC or Marvel superhero or another.

I'm telling you this because not quite half of the manga you find in US bookstores will be romance or rom/com of one kind or another and not necessarily all geared for girls/women. Guys tend to have the harem genre for romance. One guy, a half a dozen girls interested in him to different degrees but he only really is interested in one, and she's been giving him the most mixed signals. Love Hina is the classic of this genre.

Then you have the "special/destined, train, fight, train, fight" series like Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, DragonBall, Yu Yu Hakusho. Also it may be "fighting" as in a sport, board game, art or even something left field like baking. Not all fighting is fist to face, sword to sword and leaping from rooftop to rooftop.

And you do have straight up action. Rurouni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist, Trigun and Hellsing fall into that category.

It's just that you may need to look through a lot of manga titles at a bookstore before you find a story that catches your eye. There are a few manga search engines you can Google for or go look at Anime News Network's list of top manga as a place to start looking.
  20. Wait till Halloween, then you should be able to get a temp one.

  22. Yes, just remember Korean love ovals.

Actually it's a rather neat phonetic alphabet with the phonemes of each syllable clustered together. It would be like writing hello as

    hl l

  23. Fine lets roll back and compare 2nd weekend/week box office between SP and Vampires Suck before either lost their first batch of theaters.

    Scott Pilgrim - $1845/$2825 - 2820 theaters - dropped from 1255 theaters for week 3
    Vampire Sucks - $1615/$2068 - 3233 theaters - dropped only 799 theaters for week 3

So at the end of it's 2nd week, Scott Pilgrim loss 44% of it's theaters compared to only 25% for Vampires Suck yet earned 36% more money during the preceding week. That's what sticks in my claw.

When SP was jettisoned for week 3 there were two new films with a wide release, Takers and The Last Exorcism and a limit release of the extended version of Avatar. So maybe Scott Pilgrim was the movie with the lowest box office and was bumped to make room. However Vampires Suck faced three new films on wide release leading into it's 3rd week, had a worse week 2 box office than Scott Pilgrim but was displaced from far fewer theaters.
  24. They are trying to avoid stretching/squashing of bitmaps. Also the reason it looks as if you could put more than six slots on powers if you are playing on a widescreen.
