Its too late to make big money on anything...but here's what I've been doing since GR was announced last summer. Pre-market merger I was going to gun run these things.
1) bought 15 full sets of Pet Damage purples blueside and crafted them (total cost about 170M influence including crafting)
2) bought 10x stacks of the Pet Damage uniques and Recharge Intensive Pet uniques. I tended to buy these at the earliest available level and level 30 so they'd be more useful than the level 50 versions. These provide bonus resistance and defense to all of the MMs pets so very useful to them and rare in low level versions redside some selling for 300M per recipe. The prices won't be that high any more....but more than the average price of 55k I paid for them over the last year.
3) bought 10x stacks of base salvage not available on the other side. Since I expected to gun run and meet pre-standing bids for 10-20M to completist collectors I thought this would be useful....now....not so much.
4) stocked up on tons of recipes redside which ran at 25% the blueside price since I figure the prices will be more like blueside's in the merger. Non-unique LotG, Numina, etc were incldued. Considering I didn't pay much I doubt I lose here....though the new merit of the month seems to limit the potential upside for me here.
5) bought odd PvP recipes much cheaper on redside.
It'll take a while to sell my stock w/o killing market prices in the new market but I'd guess I'll make like 25-50B over 12 mos selling this stuff. -
Its amazing how easy this is to do yet very few do it.
However, the flip side to that is......if everyone did it, there wouldn't be much in the way of excess profits to make which would discourage people from doing it.
Perhaps we're at the marketeering equilibrium since there are other ways to generate large sums of inf for your time too (AE for bronze rolls, farming at level 50 for purples, PvP recipe farming <takes 2 accounts or reliable friends>). -
Remind us what the Membrane enhances so we can bid w/o logging into the game
-
The easiest way to get the Fake Nemesis badge is to form or join a Lib TV farm. I've probably killed 20k+ of those things on my main.
-
What have I done with mine.....hmm....well along with Fulmens I work on reducing inflation in the game by destroying infamy in a few ways.
1) My main has 41M prestige so you can imagine how much that was (quite a bit with matches).
2) I sometimes buy most of an object on the market and then dump all of that item at 1 to clear the bid-ask spread. Alot of infamy is semi-randomly redistributed this way along with about 20% of it being destroyed.
3) I have earned the portable crafting station on 11 toons. I assure you this is infamy destructive as far as the game is concerned even if I make a profit or break even on it.
4) I store it on exiled alts on servers like Pinnacle and forget its there. Since these toons' marginal propensity spend approaches 0 it effectively reduces inflation.
What do I do that isn't infamy destructive?
1) Well I gave away a Gladiator Armor +3 def unique (2B+ cost off market) to someone who had a very nicely written backstory that not only incorporated the game mythos but also built on it and wasn't hackneyed.
2) I paid someone 100M to broadcast World Cup action from the Spain-Germany in Cap for like 30 mins.
3) I give sums of money away to teammates so they can buy what they need. Usually because I see they're a decent player who doesn't whine or whatever and just needs a few 100M infamy to make a better build.
4) I let my husband's alts leech huge amounts of infamy off me to support their builds....no matter how oddball.....even the all-fear dark/dark brute with the presence pool. I assure you even well equipped it still sucked and was worse than just using the terrify or spectral terror powers.
5) I run costume contests from time to time though I have become bored with these and more often recently I have been doing backstory contests since those are more skill-oriented IMHO.
6) I sponsor odd-ball games like "Mook Golf in St Mart." for a few 100M infamy.
7) I give away infamy to many if not most toons I come across who don't have a vet badge yet. I'm sure I've enriched someone posting here's 2nd account....oh well.
8) And as many others have already stated....I use the roughly 100B in value I have unslotted to make more infamy/influence. -
Rad/Fire is wickedly insanely good for PBAoE.....as long as you have some means of staying alive. Shield Tanker will help you out there cause they have some defense bonuses which transmit to teammates. Shield is normally paired with elec for the double TP nuke....I don't see any reason it couldn't go nicely with fire though.
I have a 32nd level rad/fire who is able to tank with a bubbler and/or cold dom with her.
Here's my basic concept:
Take all the AoEs except the conical AoE in rad.
Rad has a PBAoE (Irradiate?) which I use to start fights.....it makes all the fire-based AoE hit better so thats why I start with it.
Fire has multiple PBAoE (Combustion and Fire Sword Circle are the heavy use ones so far). Depending on what you're fighting you'll choose to use one earlier than the other. Combustion is slow animation and does decent damage over time. Fire Sword Circle is quicker animation and slightly better damage....most right away. If the mobs will die from the fire sword circle I use it...if they require both sets I use combustion 1st so most or all of its damage has landed by the time the fire sword circle ends.
I recently added Neutron Bomb a TarAoE from Rad blast and have my typical chain as:
Irradiate -> Combustion -> Fire Sword Circle -> Neutron Bomb
Mix in Consume as required to replenish end.
So how to stay alive doing this much AoE and thus having all the focus of the enemy on you?
I have tried for a defense-based build with combat jumping, weave, the steadfast +3 def, and cross-my-fingers for a defense buffer.
With one buffer I'm generally running around 30% defense which still gets the job done most of the time in the 30's. I'm going to add some single-target melee attacks from fighting pool and fire manipulation as I finish the toon off to be able to soft-cap her vs s/l and see how that goes. When I have had 2 buffers and am soft-capped, I've been able to hold aggro well enough to dispense with needing a tanker except for better herding so I can PBAoE and hit all or most of the mob.
I suspect you should focus on defense as well and see if you can convince the tanker to take leadership pool to help you out as well.
Burn, Hot Feet, and Blazing Aura are maybes to add on later on but they might just be an end drain (or mob scatterer in Burn's case).
Honestly, if you can convince your duo'ing partner to make a dif toon I'd think a controller with an AoE immob and cold or ff as the secondary would be the perfect toon to pair with a rad/fire. -
A number of items are starting to track more similarly to each other.....though the redside version has significantly more volatility because A) the tracking is unnatural for the pop/demand rates redside B) there is less volume so its hard to be as consistent with less volume.
On the other hand, there are items which are selling for 15M redside and 80M blueside and vice versa.....so it isn't everything which is tracking together yet. If the devs wanted that they'd have to have a patch where you can see the red and blue prices side by side or something pre-merger. I've been using 2 accounts on 2 screens of my double monitor to do that but most aren't able to I imagine.
The funny thing is....I don't expect the whole market to turn into the blue prices....but it sure seems like everyone else does and expectation can create reality so we'll have to see what happens. -
I'd love to buy a carnie one myself -- I have a few people looking as I offered 2B for one.....but no luck so far. I doubt thats the going rate but I have so much infamy I don't know what to do with it anyhows.
No idea how to be sure its legit other than to know the people who will offer it to you. -
I find that earnings are marginally higher doing ticket farming and selling pool As (bronze rolls). However, you'll clog up all of your slots doing this. If the marginal value of a slot is considered in (how much excess you can make from buy&craft to sell) purple farming is somewhat better....though not amazingly so. If you can kill level 50 enemies in a farm faster than me the purples would be clearly better though -- not sure if its possible but I'm working on an unusual farming blaster who might outfarm my brute right now.
As others have said do what you find to be fun and/or diversify if you have no preference. -
If you started listing items out of base storage at 60-days people would just store items on alts they don't play. You haven't added any positive functionality and made the game more of a nuisance for those who want to do things like pre-stock for alts.
-
Its really a $5 buy though since it comes with a free month. A bargain by costume pack standards. I assume it was so they could show how successful their mac launch was honestly.
And as to free month....its the next month. -
You'd have to be careful with this idea to not double add stuff.
Example with adding 20% to market supply of Titanium Coating Res/End
Lets suppose that on an average day 200 of these are popped with the following results:
20 are sold to vendor (believed useless or lazy player)
30 are crafted and slotted without ever touching the market
20 are deleted
25 sit in a toons inventory indefinitely
100 are placed on the market at a reasonable price
5 are placed on the market at a price too high to ever reasonably sell
So for recipes......200 were popped and 105 placed on market. There would be an addition of 21 recipes to the supply.
But, lets go back to the 100 which were placed on market at a price to sell + the 21 dev wand ones...lets assume the following on those
41 are purchased to craft and slot
80 are purchased to craft and relist
So in addition to our added 21 recipes above, we'd have 16 more IOs added in this example.
More importantly....lets postulate that sometimes people buy IOs on the market lowball and then relist again to make a profit (I assure you I am doing this currently with toons off my main server....its slow but you can make inf doing it)
Lets say thats the end result of 10% of all IO sales and it'd result in a few more IOs added.
You may say well ok....so we see about a 40% increase in market supply on slottable items over time (because of recipes and the IOs) here...thats a good thing, right?
Maybe....but here's the exploit:
I get my hands on 5 of a Purple....say its worth 200M but the standing bids are at a typical lowball 100M.
I pass them through the market to my own other toon's bids (which I put 6 of in so I get the added one too)
600M total bids becomes 450M return to the other toon so 150M is removed from the game which is good (we need more inf sinks)
However our original owner had items worth 1 B before......now he has items worth 1.2B and the loss of 150M inf so his total worth is 50M more than before.
This even assumes there are other people's outstanding bids to slow things down. I can assure you there are valuable items out there which have few bids on them and which could be duplicated very easily using the method I outline above.
I'd rather see something more complicated if market seeding is going to happen.....and even more importantly.....the seeding would be all items lower than level 50 (a void in the market for sure) and even more more importantly....no seeding of purples or PvP IOs. -
On my 2nd redside toon to get field crafter I forgot you had to have the silly badge from doing the crafting tutorial. So I figured they added doing all the 45-50 recipes too and blew an extra 100M doing all of them (for shiny recipe slots at least). Still didn't get it.......and much like Fulmens stepped on some luddites cause well they were nearby when I came out of the Cap Uni and didn't run fast enough.
The next time I logged my toon I was like....hey I still have the contact for the university tutorial.......doh! -
I had gone 2 days farming nemesis for a couple hours each and got nothing. I was just about to quit and figured I'd hit demonic and top off my insp before I logged.
In the last group I did I footstomped finishing most of the group and popped 3 purples from that one footstomp (ragnarok, armageddon, coercive persuasion). -
I will say rad/fire blasters are pretty disgustingly AoEish. They have end and survival issues solo but on a team I've never had a toon like it...even my 3 farming brutes and my fire/kin and fire/rad trollers.
A rad/fire blaster has as much AoE output at level 20 as an of my brutes does at 50th...they just flop over much easier. -
I did that once bidding 100M each for a stack of 10 when I meant to buy for 10M each.....mercifully I managed to cancel after only buying like 7 of them so my losses were mitigated a little.
In the real world market I submitted a trade for a client once for 10000 shares and typoed the stock ticker. The stock I was buying was like $5 a share but the typo was like $4300 a share.....luckily for me the clients account wouldn't accomodate the trade or that would have been a pain in the **** to bust later on (the difference used to come out of the broker's pocket not the firms). -
Its additive not multiplicative. However, 100% recharge bonus only halves the recharge time of a power rather than reducing it to 0 seconds so the math isn't exactly as you're suggesting.
I believe the formula is power recharge/(100+recharge bonus/100)
So adding 10% recharge bonus means a 100 second recharge would recharge
100/(1.1) = 90.9 seconds
Adding 50% recharge bonus means
100/(1.5) = 66.7 seconds
Adding 100% recharge bonus means
100/(2) = 50 seconds
Adding 200% recharge bonus means
100/(3) = 33.3 seconds
So you can see there is a pretty quick law of diminishing returns as you raise recharge....and yet its still one of the most powerful means of increasing all your powers at once. -
I'm certain I've gotten scourge on one of the rain powers on my ice corruptor. Did they make a separate pet for the lower power (ice storm?) or am I just remembering incorrectly?
Going to go experiment with this now probably -
I'll bid 35M for one and raise Fulmen's bid to 35M as well -- so 70M for the pair and I'm going to give him one.
I can be reached at @ferrum-ignis if I win the bid. -
Soul Tentacles isn't worthless....its just tricky to use.....I have combat jumping on my ss/wp/gw and I jump over the enemy group and throw soul tentacles in the air. Generally when I come down everyone except the bosses are immob'ed. Then I roll into the usual footstomp --> dark oblit double which kills the vast majority of the enemies. Roll into single target attacks for the boss(es) and move along.
For simpler (though a bit slower) farming I recommend /mu but /mu doesn't do as well with ss/wp.....I really prefer it with a secondary which doesn't benefit from the kd in footstomp so much. I think elec/elec/mu, ss/elec/mu, elec/fire/mu, ss/fire/mu, elec/inv/mu, or even ss/inv/mu would be good combos with mu. I have a ss/fire/mu myself and she was expensive as hell to build out but pretty damn solid against most enemies -- but I still have more fun and am more effective on my ss/wp/dark. -
Ice/Thorns is awesome fun and with power customization and the new organic costume options you can really make the "thorns" look like shards of ice you're flinging off. Now why they do toxic damage over time if thats what they are is beyond me...but you could just imagine it as low-resisted freezer burn or something.
The combo is nice cause the confuse aura makes it safe to get up close and use thorns. I imagine /earth would be nice for the same reason. I paired grav/earth and I can tell you the singularity really doesn't want anything to stay in melee with me long enough for me to slap a couple attacks on it. -
I agree with Alpha,
CI gives some recharge which makes it more desirable than most other options against nemesis. Kin Combat cost a mint, give you lower modifiers to damage/acc/rchg because they're 35th, and the S/L defense won't help a lick against veng popping enemies.
I've considered some other options but I still have mostly CI in my main farming build on my SS/WP -

And there it is...hiding in plain sight. The Devs have already started to seed the markets in order to thwart our [collectivediabolical plans.
That would suck....I'm sure they can make more LotG 7.5%s than I have money.....then again they probably have more important things than to sit creating stacks of 10 of them over and over so I might be able to wait them out. -
All redside market activity:
I slotted a few of my ranged toons (kin and dark cors for example) with sets with +acc at low levels (10-25) so I could slot only one acc in other powers, but most of the time its only worth it for frankenslotting.
I posted all my low level IOs that I used for like 25k each at the end of i15 (total of 30 IOs or so) and they sat filling slots on average for 7 weeks and sold for an average of like 105k (with one selling for almost a million so the median was closer to 30k). If more people didn't blow through levels 10-30 I think this might be a rational strategy but the market for these IOs is very thin redside (and probably blueside too). The good news is the slots didn't really require work and I did make a profit plus get the use value...but from a profit/slot standpoint it was a poor use of a market slot.
If IO sets worked like common IOs and came in 5 level increments (30, 35, 40) rather than 1 level increments (30, 31, 32) the shallowness of these pools wouldn't be so extreme and a market might develop. I've suggested this about 100 times to no avail though so I don't expect it to develop. -
Yes on 50's. Reasoning being that the IO does have a +def component too so the 50 ones actually are more valuable to a level 50.
I expect the merged equilibrium to run about 15% higher than the blueside 60-day average and about 10% lower than the redside 60-day average based on my modelling of the respective sizes of the blue and redsides and a weight up because a large portion of the player base will be Going Rogue" rather than farming merits by doing a TF sequence (ITF, LGTF, 3xTreeSpec -- or Posi, ITF, LGTF). Less merits created and more doing of regular content = lower prices for high level pool As and higher prices for high level pool Cs.
If my assumptions about GR not producing merits as quickly as TF sequences then I could be wrong. Additionally if GR brings back a large number of "casual gamers" who increase market supply more than their purchasing increases demand I could be wrong....though there is a similar upside variable in that the casual gamers may still need LotG 7.5% for a number of slots on their mains (unlike un-casual gamers who are slotting out toon #11 with a 2-4B build or something and feel less pressure to be fast) and push up demand if they gain purchasing power sufficient to acquire these items.
I have a huge bankroll......I could buy ALL the LotGs being sold redside if I wanted to....I just don't like being so undiversified in case I'm wrong. So I'm curious who decided to dump here since I think its not an economically rational choice, especially now that cross-side email is going in. If that hadn't been announced I'd assume it was people dumping all their redside stuff cause they're Going Hero for the less painful market and I'd be bummed that redside was going to crash so hard.
I guess we'll all have a pretty good idea who was right in about 10 weeks (a bit post-GR)
