  2. Seconding ninjas/poison. Also, mercs/poison is horrid, ran one up to 50 the hard way (solo) and regretted every second. Really, I only finished her out of spite, and moved her to some slot-empty server when the transfers were free.
  3. Four blood mandates (every piece with damage) and two defense IOs is my go-to slotting on protbots. I've also done 3x nucleolous, 2x defense IOs, and the explosive strike proc, but end issues rear their ugly heads. Maybe the cardiac alpha would help that, but I don't have it on any masterminds yet. Never slot for heals; it only delays how long the protbots wait to use their heal as they won't waste a single point overhealing. This means that if they can heal for 500, they won't heal until the target has taken at least 500 damage.

edit: scooped by Dechs, damn stale tabs
  4. I can't speak to Sam's sense of humour or lack thereof, but I agree with him that the funny doesn't really exist in the AE building aside from literally two arcs that I have seen (Ascendant's arc and the one that has you paired up with THE MEGA PUNCHER).
  5. The 10.12 drivers seem to have fixed the driver stopped responding or whatever errors I have been getting since I installed the 10.11s. I am pleased.
  6. What about Touch of Fear? I am not sure about it on a tank, I have never taken it on a brute or scrapper.

e: I mean, I got lots of mitigation in my primary already, do I need or want ToF? I don't have it yet.
  7. I was indeed leaning toward Soul Mastery, although it's a bit of a slot crunch to slot out both Gloom and Dark Obliteration. Might be that I just don't bother slotting Gloom, or perhaps I will skip Weave. Now that the passives in Invulnerable have some nice effects, I am not as willing to skip them as I was on my invulnerable scrappers.

Oh, forgot to mention, I am thinking of putting a ToE proc in Siphon Life. Anyone get good mileage out of that at all?
  8. Hey all, not looking for a build. Just wondering how people enjoy their Inv/DM tankers. I've tried and failed to stick with a tanker numerous times; SD/Elec bored me, WP/Ice was the same, and fire/fire was a little too much chewy centre, not enough hard candy coating. I rolled up a new tanker a week ago, an Inv/DM, and so far she's a lot of fun. No IOs in her yet, as she's only 27, but she's fairly robust against the usual suspects and in task forces.

Anyone else have fun with this combo? Are there any gotchas I am going to run into later in life? I figured that DM would alleviate some of my endurance woes, as well as proving a nice little topup for the green bar with Siphon Life (I do so enjoy flexing things to death). One the other hand, maybe I will struggle holding aggro with so few AoE attacks, although I do use Taunt liberally.
  9. This gets run every week blue and redside by at least one person and probably others. Are you in the more popular teaming globals? You should be able to catch xeaon forming these on Sundays, IIRC.

Easy, I wrote 2 arcs that were repeatedly rated 5 stars.

    A Princess of Mars

Heavy Metal - The most Freakshow ever seen

Then the anti 5 star brigade rated them into 3 star oblivion. I gave up and never went back. I intend to never return. When something is 5 starred you get play - when it is 3 starred you don't.

Although I disagree with a lot of Venture's reviews, this one was bang on. Sometimes arcs get rated down not by a mysterious cabal of secretive cryptoauthors, but by people thinking it is in fact a one-star arc.

It's not. You see blue underfoot. You get eight seconds (longer than any attack animation in the game besides Time Bomb) to get out. You move away and carry on. A sword looking thing drops from the sky and creates a highly visible patch of death that persists for a bit. Don't stand in that. That's all. If you die because you are animation locked, its because you queued up an attack after your current one and after the blue appeared under you. If that's a problem, learn not to do that.

(I too hate the ski slope and do not have a single badge from it)

If it was me, I would ditch CoF and grab Death Shroud. Slot 3x dam/end IOs and one acc/dam/end IO in it and it's golden. Take the slots out of OG and put one more in Obsidian Shield for the 3% Steadfast. Replace the IOs in Tough with a four-set of Reactive Armors. Replace the Numi heal IO in Health with a Miracle heal IO for the recovery bonus, more valuable to you with your big heal. Some other tweaks too; replace the Pounding Slugfests with one Crushing Impact D/E/R and one Focused Smite A/E/R for better numbers overall. Pull slots out of LBE (blah) and use them and the other free slots to five-slot Taunt and stuff it with Mocking Beratement. Fool around with slotting in DR to get some better numbers on recharge; healing enhancement isn't as important because you are gonna hit a few mobs with it, presumably. Something like this:

Some of your slotting looks like it is aimed at increasing regeneration, which isn't needed on a DA brute because of the fat heal in DR. Plenty of places to improve what I posted above, but that's my fast advice.

This exactly. You can make yourself a lot tougher but you are gonna sacrifice recharge to do it. You will last longer in a fight but the fights will take longer to finish. As an aside Arachnos and Longbow can be *** kickers to many characters, so dying to them now and again on x8 is certainly no shame.

Let me demonstrate by turning OG on in the middle of that freakshow mob.

Notice... anything peculiar about the Freakshow I have targeted. Say, maybe where he is in relation to me?

Oh yeah, he's way outside melee range. He's way outside taunt range. When that stun wears off and I've got a team-mate around, and I'm pushing a perception debuff on myself and my team-mate is not, what exactly do you think is going to happen?

If you thought... he's going to wake up and fire on my team-mate... you win the gold star.
You do not understand how aggro works in this game. Stealth doesn't shed aggro. Placeate sheds aggro, and dark armor brutes/tanks don't have placate. Also, that mob is certainly not "way outside taunt range." Taunt range is what? Seventy feet?

    Quote:
The fear cloak is actually worse, and is just as likely to send enemies screaming off down the map in terror as it is to force them to stand still.
No, it isn't. That's not how fear works in this game, and hasn't for a long time.

    Quote:
Then there's the problem with both auras that they pretty much only work on minions and some lewies... So unless you've got an attack with a stun or fear component, you probably aren't going to be able to mez out that boss or ebby that's ripping away at your spinal cord like a terrier chewing on a bone.
That's not what the mez auras are for. They aren't supposed to mez anything higher than minions. In fact, they can't mez any lieutenants on their own either, to the best of my knowledge, because they don't stack with themselves. Also, the fear aura has a -tohit component that doesn't require the mob to be feared to work.

    Quote:
Something you have to remember is that the Dark Armor set is pretty much what give rise to the Stalker Archtype. The set is really best for hit and run tactics. It is not designed to sit in a fight and draw aggro.

If you want a tanky brute, you'll need to pick a different armor set.
Citation needed. Where the hell did you get the idea that Dark Armor is what inspired stalkers?

I and others, most famously Dechs Kaison, run very tanky Dark Armor characters. In my case, my Dark Armor scrap is the tankiest scrapper I have. The thing about Dark Armor is, if it can't kill you before Dark Regeneration recycles, it will never kill you. It's absolutely meant to sit in a fight and draw aggro.

Dark Armor's end issues are overrated. Most of them are cured with the addition of a ToE proc in DR. The rest are cured with easy-to-acquire accolades and some judicious slotting. With the alpha slot coming in now, no DA character at 50 should ever have to complain about end use again. My own DA scrapper runs ten toggles and doesn't have the alpha slot opened up yet, and is end stable forever.
  19. Mercs is terrible, but Dark Miasma is good. Works out to being not bad. I haven't played mine since the pet AI got even worse than before, so I am not sure how she is now, but levelling mercs/dark wasn't as painful as mercs/FF or mercs/poison.
  20. I too hate that people enjoy playing internet superheroes in a manner that I dislike.

I'm not sure if I can get enough set bonuses for S/L defense to reach the softcap (45%). Wouldn't it be better to try to softcap the already higher F/C/E/N defense?

    Thanks,

Yes, really, S/L defense. Something like 70% of the attacks in game have an S/L component, including attacks that deliver plenty of non S/L damage. Get up to around 35% S/L defense and you are going to stay upright a lot longer. Trying to achieve more FCEN defense at the expense of S/L is going to make you a lot more frail than simply ignoring FCEN and aiming at S/L.

You don't need to hit 45% to gain a lot of survivability. Your defense is layering on top of your resistances and regen, so getting to say 35% is going to help you a lot. A small purple gets you there and you are a tiny god. Like all_hell, I have binds to make purples, but they are on my movement keys so I am constantly making purples without even trying
  23. Why would you aim for AoE & F/C defense at the expense of melee or S/L?
  24. I'd say Dark Miasma is overhyped, and I say that as a Dark Miasma fan.
