Quote:I have a thread a couple steps further down this forum. I also went from 11.5 down to 11.3 and so far, so good. After stepping back to 11.3 I haven't had any problems yet. I can't say for sure if it's fixed, but going by my previous rate I'm hopeful.
Of course, I've not tested it much in teams. One BAF, and then I went and found the most graphic-intensive mess I could by taking my fire/fire tanker on a x8 map with enemies who self-rez and use bunches of fire effects.
I'm so pleased that someone designed a mission just to stress-test graphic capabilities in the AE. It was quite kind of them. -
Quote:Not that I recall. I also don't get any "stopped working" message when this happens. Literally, the whole screen freezes and I have to bring up the task manager to close the program, which the TM lists as "Not responding".Just out of curiousity, was the person that levelled, dead, when they levelled up? I notice my game sometimes crashes on the resurrection animation. Actually, the PeaceBringer resurrection animation is the one that causes mine to crash the most, but sometimes Rise of the Phoenix also gives me the "City of Heroes has stopped working" message, and I have to exit to desktop.
This is the only program this happens with, and it's fairly disconcerting since I built this system specifically to play City. I've uninstalled the 11-5 drivers and dropped back to the 11-3's, but haven't had much time to stress-test it yet to see if that will fix the problem. -
Yup, sure enough. =) My wife's machine (same specs) does this occasionally as well, but we were both on the same map last night when I crashed the last two times and only I was crashing.
I'm pretty sure the last crash I had coincided with someone else on the team leveling. I never saw the graphical burst that went along with it, but as I was swearing about crashing, other people were saying "congrats". -

Hi all - After spending a week playing on my laptop because the AC was out and I didn't want to run the much newer desktop, tonight was my first night back with the good machine - and it wasn't a good night. I experienced a half-dozen crashes where the game simply froze (or, in one BAF, my Brute's damage bonus went to -32123488972345.14324, or something like that, as I crashed). It was most often when a lot of graphic effects were happening on-screen, but I thought I'd gotten all my drivers up to date when I built the machine less than 2 months ago. It's not the first time I've gotten these kinds of crashes, but tonight was the most frequent and most frustrating.
It's very possible that I didn't navigate the site correctly to find the right drivers, though. I got them from the site of the card manufacturer (xfx) and it shows them as being the Catalyst 11-5 drivers, so I'm not sure what's going on, or where I could get earlier versions of the drivers if I need to uninstall these and try something like the 11-4 or 11-3, which I've seen in a few places on the forums.
Tonight I tried turning off ambient occlusion, then dropped the max particle count, but the last crash happened within three minutes of my logging back in from the previous. All but one occurred in an instance, with the sole exception happening during a Rikti mothership raid.

I continue to be amazed by the quality of the adaptation. Absolutely fantastic.
And I'm loving reading the reactions from viewers who hadn't read the books, on other forums. They don't seem to understand what their sudden passionate hatred of HBO actually says about the quality of the source material and viewing experience.
I'd thought the best thing about the HBO series would be that it got Martin to write the rest of the books. Turns out, I was wrong.
The best thing about the HBO series is, in fact, the HBO series. -
Quote:Though I'd be careful on this, since I think that L47 minions con grey to a 50, so aren't drop-eligible. L47 Lt's and Bosses could drop purples to a 50, at least.Actually, you can do so at L47+.
Even though the recipes themselves are locked at L50, any mob that can
drop a recipe *usuable* by a L50 character can also drop a purple recipe.
It's possible I'm mistaken on that, since I've never spent enough time slaughtering barely-grey minions to test everything about how drops work on them. =) -
I generally don't have problems with my controllers and defenders on Lambda as long as I let a melee type (or an uppity blaster) grab aggro first.
But then, every one of my squishies has some power (superior invis) or combination of powers/IOs (e.g., super speed + celerity stealth) that gives them the equivalent of invisibility, so I can run around most of the maps that don't have Rikti Drones or Nem Snipers without trouble. I'd recommend looking into that as an option, since it's easy to fit Stealth into many builds now, and Sprint will take either Celerity or Unbounded Leap stealth pieces to stack with it. -
Just wanted to put another plug in for Father Xmas's guides and helpful shopping lists. Two months ago I used his low-end list to order and build new machines for my wife and myself. After rebates and sale prices, it came out to around 650/machine, and they don't feel low-end at all. I had to play on my 15-month-old laptop this week because the AC was out and the room with the nice computers got too hot with them on, and boy did I miss all the shininess of the new systems...
With careful shopping (watch slickdeals.net, they tend to do notifications about particularly good newegg sales) you can probably get a really good CoH machine for below what I paid, provided you're willing to put it together yourself. -
I noticed this announcement.
-
It also doesn't mean that they're not. And on what do you base the conclusion that everyone who's said, "I read the forums every day and never saw this" is only a regular in a chatter forum?
-
Quote:I appreciated the time and effort that went into it. Elements of it were extremely fun. Ultimately, though, it came down to players doing what players have been trained to do - bunch up in huge groups and mash buttons. What led to me logging off to go do something else was the lack of any kind of success metric beyond "fight for three hours". It was a reactive event (that would, I know, be the purpose of fending off an invasion - to "react" to it) and as such it lacked any kind of positive goal to work toward. Even a counter reflecting the % of Cole's invasion force that had been defeated (this wouldn't need to be based on anything other than time, behind the scenes) would have been more motivating, and is something I hope will be considered for future large-scale invasion scenarios. Maybe including statements like, "Intelligence indicates that the combined forces of Primal Earth have repelled 20% of the force Cole had massed for the invasion" in the red-text announcements, in the short term?I really don't want this to be seen as a rant or a criticism of the event, because it was well-handled once it got rolling and the pace got sorted out...but the writer and the filmmaker in me can't help but notice some things (yes, even in a video game where you don't have to follow narrative structure) and I wanted to comment on it. I hope any rednames and players that might read this take it in the spirit that it is intended.
I realize that would still be "fight for three hours," but at least there would be something to indicate progress.
The community team did a great job making it immersive and providing updates in announcing the attacks. They had a difficult task in terms of providing sufficient enemies that a league of 48 wouldn't just overwhelm the challenge, but not so many that it became a slog. I tip my (virtual) hat to all of them, for taking on the epic task of running these events for the next two weeks. I hope they're getting nice bonuses for being such good sports and working so hard to be the "face" of the event. -
Quote:Is there a guide somewhere on "How to make sure your suggestions don't get implemented"? Because this really ought to be added to it.Cant believe no dev thought of this. Actually..yes I can. Cause it would actually make sense and be a good idea. And they don't do things like that.
I'd put it right after the entry on, "Suggest how an event should run after it has already started."
In terms of framing this, OP, perhaps a better tactic would have been, "I've looked at the Praetorian invasion information, and thought this idea might be interesting to consider for future invasion scenarios". That might be a little better-received. -
Just to add more anecdotal data, my kin/sonic defender has gotten 3 VR's, and my SS/EA brute, who has easily run 4-5 times as many iTrials, has gotten 1, that in the first successful trial I ever ran with him.
-
Quote:Yet you have no trouble suggesting motivation ("willful" does imply actively attempting to remain ignorant, yes?) with no knowledge of anything that would suggest such.Ironblade I stand by what I said that willful ignorance is no excuse and in my opinion lazy in the other thread but please don't post lies. I never said anything derogatory about their personal hygene. You are a better person than that.
The irony is, I most likely wouldn't have bought transfers had I known about them. My statement that the communication relating to the sale could have been better is one that I'm more than willing to stand behind, given the amount of time I spend on the forums and the fact that I still managed to miss mention of it.
You can feel free to paste together as many long, link-laden, graphically-enhanced responses as you like, if doing so makes you feel good about yourself. I don't find the tone or attitude conveyed all that constructive, but I'm guessing that wasn't your goal. -
Quote:Agreed. I've been happy with most/all of the casting, but his casting was particularly brilliant. If you don't think so now, you will later on. Syrio Forel is awesome. The casting for him is really good.
I had my doubts about Dinklage as Tyrion, tbh, but he is fully nailing the role and I expect to see him up for an Emmy next year. -
-
They could give away freebies and I'd never know it. I somehow missed the half-price transfer announcement. There have been a number of things lately that haven't been communicated all that well to the community.
-
Quote:The petition I submitted was escalated twice. I then got an email stating that they are aware of issues with lag in the BAF and that a patch would be forthcoming soon that should help with it. They asked me to send them some information about my system just in case, which I did.Ok if they really told you that then someone at customer service really is a moron.
I will probably update my question, since tonight I was on a lambda team that decided to try for one of the badges needed for the Master badge, and the volume of adds created the exact same kind of lag for our team that I got on the BAF. My tier-2 sonic blast power, which is supposed to animate in 1.67 seconds, was taking between 6 and 7 seconds from the time I clicked it until it let the next power I queued up fire. -
Wait, is this the thread where we're supposed to moan about not having been told immediately before they were granted and attempt to arm-twist the devs into granting another one, announced, in a week and a half?
Or is this the thread where we're supposed to be grateful for free stuff and act like grown-ups?
I need to modulate my actions, so input would be appreciated. -
Quote:What killed me (not literally - quite) on Virtue tonight wasn't the powers activating like I was in OG Hami or MSR environments, it was that when I hit my F-key to follow either Seige or Nightstar during that final battle, it took 3-4 seconds for my character to start moving. We were in the "Fight Seige and Nightstar together" stage. We were fighting them at the add spawn point. Normal lag, powers executing 5 seconds after clicking them, standing around looking like statues, etc.
Failed raid. Really un-fun experience. Somebody put the server gerbils out of their misery. -
Quote:I was the brute.I remember the Stalker got threads (I think... watch you say now that you were the stalker
).
Quote:I'm torn between running more small teams as a test and saying "Screw it" and avoiding small teams rather than spend my nights getting Leech Prizes in the name of science. -
If only smaller leagues weren't reporting increased incidences of the thread-table awarding to players who were forced to participate even more than usual based on some combination of the smaller number of players present and the longer average time to complete...
-
Quote:I'd initially been wondering if the people who got threads were mainly the 2 who started on acids, since we split 5-2 for the gathering. But I know that you were on grenades with me, and I'm pretty sure you were at almost every containment chamber first. We just ran a Lambda with seven people (don't ask). Did a typical job: cleared 100% on the streets, courtyard, guns, usual run through for the 'nades and then plowed Marauder.
Three of us got threads (including myself)
Do you remember if the other 2 receiving the thread table were the defender and dominator who went and did acids? Or if either of them got threads?
I felt fortunate to get a common out of that run, in part because I had to pull out my Lore pets and doing so always makes me leery of hosing the reward table.
I'm really trying to figure out what we did "wrong" to get so many low rewards. The only way that felt different was that the clearing phases took a little longer. We got the bonus Astral for destroying a chamber and a crate within 2 seconds of each other, the bonus Astrals for getting all the temp powers, and smoked Marauder more quickly than a lot of 16-Lambda's I've been on. There is something seriously wrong with a participation system that not only does not reward participation, but that punishes players for powering through when the situation gets more difficult...
Hey, tinfoil hat time! Maybe they figured out that once there were a lot of tier-3's, it'd get easier for people to do this, and small teams of 8 would be able to complete it without recruiting from the masses. So to keep the "elite" teams from being motivated to exclude people who might be sitting in the queue, waiting (and one of our 7 was from the queue, I think...), they included team size as a variable affecting rewards.
