    Im New

Welcome... this community is the best MMO community I've come across... if you try another MMORPG expect worse people...
  2. Furry can be expanded to fit almost anything or contract it to such a tiny minority it can be nothing but "creepy". There is a debate in Furry communities on just wear the line is, but it's far expanded beyond the "sexual deviancy" cult thing that is put upon it.

This is the case with just about everything... You either get super liberal definitions that make the word worthless and noone agrees with it or you get super constricted definitions that just about noone in the actual community agrees with and paints them in a bad light.

A lot of group labels can't be boiled down to a few essential qualities... and those that can a lot of them are misused so confusing the people who don't know anything about the label.

The leveling system of the game never included gaining NEW powers. It wasn't tied to the game's story either. If a new arc is featured, where you travel to the Well of the Furies and gain a new power from a list of powers including Zeu's Ligtning, Poseidon's Trident and Hephaustus' Hammer, would that considered gaining a level? You didn't get a power slot, you didn't select a power from your primary/secondary pools. Your Sting of the Wasp still does 94,2 unenhanced damage, because that's how much it does when used by a level 50 scrapper. You are still level 50.
You are comparing temp powers to permanent powers connected to a thing called a level. If you want to not call it raising the level cap that's fine, delude yourself all you want.

Also, noone is "doom-posting" they read your post and followed the natural course of answering your question that you put forth. That's how people write, the first paragraph is an introduction unless you are listing things...

As far as the story line goes...I would hope it wouldn't have anything to do with the coming storm as that has to do with aliens, unless the aliens are somehow a advanced human culture that traveled back in time and across dimension to establish peace in a "wild world" which could have happened if the Preatorians lives a hundred or so years into their future.

What the devs said was that you gain NEW powers (not powers from your primary/secondary/epic/patron power pools) and that Incarnate levels are tied to the game's story and cannot be earned with experience points.

Normal levels and Incarnate levels are two entirely different things, similar to how different earning a temp power from an arc and getting stamina at lv20 is.

Also, this thread is about the story behind Incarnate levels. If you are interested in discussing the game mechanics, you can always open a new thread. Thank you.

However the Incarnate system works it is just a system for leveling beyond 50. It is raising the level cap. The only difference is they are using a different mechanic and linking it directly to story. Both of which has been done in other games for leveling systems. If you want to not call it raising the level the cap, good for you, but that doesn't change the fact of what it is which is levels beyond lvl 50 which by definition is a raise of the level cap.

What has been said about Incarnates is simply this...

They are raising the level cap and using different words as to not have as many people freak out that they are doing so.

Now you can go on your rant about that...
  6. I would like CoH2 to be more or less an expansion... I know it may sound terrible, but if it is more or less just an update on graphics, engine, etc... have event separator, like the War Walls comnig down (which to do would require all the area of Hero side to be doubled consider all the area left over) and then just continue the story on in CoH2... and slowly drop support for CoH if you can't figure out how to make things backwards compatable. People who like CoX and have stuck with it this long are going to get CoH2 any ways so there is little reason to continue supporting CoH.

All you'd have to make sure everyone comes over is say something like all the booster packs come with CoH2 or you get all the vet rewards when you transfer over or something like that.
  7. So... as to begin the discussion...

The overlord boss character I was thinking naming it BIOS, and more less make it a dumb brute of a character.

The faction power conceptually i was thinking them be ...

faction 1 : speed, electricity, intellectual bosses, but more or less just bruteish minnions.

faction 2 : Sonic and Psionic power sets... a disposition of being rather crazy

faction 3 : Healing, buffing, debuffing, controlling power types... no over arching personality

Good faction : Mix of powers... feudal style society. minnions of this group are sub sytems of their bosses.

Also considering an idea that there is a hero and villain that was created by the Aeon world to keep an eye on the real world after loisng contact with Dr Aeon?

No idea why the Aeonkind would contact a real world hero...any ideas?
  8. An Epic Collaboration...if only people were willing to take part.

The basic idea is to get a group of people to work on a series of Arcs that are meant to be played from 1-50 that are actual stories and have a lore of their own that fits into what's been told so far...

The basic idea for this lore is...

Dr Aeon when creating the mission architecture system built in programming into the BIOS of the system to create an AI to study the super beings using it to develop a way to artificially recreate their powers or whatever... However, considering the nature of who was presenting this tech all of it was looked over and all the replaceable parts were... This created a glitch of some sort in the BIOS AI which ended up creating many AIs and 4 factions, based around the CPU/RAM, Video Card, Sound Card on the "evil" side and the O/S on the "good" side. This world has been growing and evolving on it's own without interfering with the real world until "something" happens and causes one of the factions to contact the outside world.

That's pretty much what I got right now...

I would guess the most likely question is how to decide what becomes part of this lore and what doesn't if this gets big...? select a small group of people that go in and check the arc out and then vote on it... Also all arcs up for this would have to have their data sent to people to archive it just in case something happens where that particular arc comes down.

So... what do you guys think of this idea?

Also the "Aeonkind" name is just a temp thing as of right now... I'm sure a better name could be made up...

  13. What do you mean helper report? edit: never mind figured it out.

The 8800GS apparently shouldn't be able to run ultra mode at any where close to the setting i have let alone with just choppy in some areas... but it does and lowering settings doesn't really help is the thing which tends to mean it's either a setting I can't figure out or not the card at all.

Also consuming that much RAM, especially if it's not just when Ultra mode is active, is a serious problem considering that CoH has always been consistent about making sure their reqs are pretty low, but good for low end PCs... Eating a gig of RAM on a low end PC will kill it considering a low end PC is likely 32 bit system and likely a far worse vid card than i have... That along with the fact that firefox eats RAM as well... it pretty much means that a lot of the lower spec PCs can't run CoH anymore which is a good portion of their install base.
  14. the reasoning behind the factioning along those lines in my thought processes was because each of them have CPU/RAM (ie separate brains) which would create different paths of achieving their objective and likewise cause each one to take on different ideas which might lead to conflicts. The OS is the good side because it's the part that would have been put in place by the good guys.

Also it gives the 4 factions inherently different power set combinations to identify them.

It seems the most logical and useful dividing lines that would occur, but there is probably something better I haven't thought of.

edit: also... does this thread belong in the other forum...hrmmm no clue...
  15. Yeah I have a nVidia 8800 GS, 3GB (though 4GB in the machine >.>) and 2.40 GHz Dual Core CPU (Intel core2 duo e4600 if your curious)

in various areas it gets choppy and it seems shadows, objects, and such aren't being rendered where at the proper distances... they aren't rendering till much much closer than they used to be causing things to sorta pop into existence rather than render further off...

Let me see if I can get this right...

I have everything at max or 100% (default turned on Ultra mode settings) save for FSAA which is disabled and anitstropic filtering at 2x. And all Ultra mode settings are at max save for advanced occlusion which is disables and whatever occlusion which is set to balanced...

I've tried messing with the settings, tried turning down and up, but the only thing that seems to matter is occlusion and the 2 other things i mentioned.

I also seem to be having CoH eat up like a full Gig of RAM at times where before it barely registered.

What I'd like to know is either good settings... or what is up? is the choppiness and other issues due to the RAM? and if so is it a memory leak or due to the settings?

    Umbral...
No offense to Positron, but that is stupid, and it has been pointed out by a number of industry professionals. Also there are contractual things people would sign obviously to keep that from happening...and not to mention they wouldn't be "unsolicited" Not to mention that's a load of crap because if it wasn't this forum and number of things wouldn't exist and they've admitted to using player ideas which are unsolicited... so fail on many level on that one comment.

If you think "rebalancing takes as long as creating" the power, then you have no idea what you are talking about. I didn't say it was easy to do nor did I say that it didn't take time, but the time you are thinking it takes is just stupid.

This would not be like AE... The difference between what this would be and what AE is several orders of magnitude. It seems pretty obvious to me with this comment and the several others you are not actually paying attention to what is said and you have a negative out look on a lot of ideas proposed by your own admission thus it makes your opinion less credible and not to mention contradictory.

    Samuel_Tow...
Yes and no... they would have the numbers, know what they do. It's not like they wouldn't make tweaks anyways, so it's not a problem. You're talking about ones that happen to be unbalanced through some combination of numbers while in that comment I am talking about unbalanced purposefully or just bad design skills... though would be easy to spot.

AE is not complex in it's usage. This is is a whole different type of beast we're talking about. while they both allow player generated content one essentially allows you to tap buttons randomly to allow you to get something out of it...the other would require actual skill.

    Secondly.

Manhours. It would take a ton of time to check balance metrics and design against the various player submitted powersets. Likely more than are currently used to design powersets from scratch.

    Thirdly!

Most of the talent on the internet is poor. Very poor. Go to Elfwood and flip through all the artists you can stand to. How many had okay art? How many had great art? How many had art that made you want to gouge out your eyes with a twizzler? Think of that. Now make that your -job-. Sifting through a metric ton of garbage every day trying to find the handful of good ideas and well designed powersets.

So yeah. PROBABLY not going to happen.
    -Rachel-
Firstly, not as sticky as you might think. We already sign over a form of consent to use our intellectual property just from signing in and creating characters. Reimbursement would never need to be involved, but it would be another plus wouldn't it? Could be a way to scout new talent...after all they've already done that with MA.

Secondly, I don't think so, but I would assume in the kit would be a playable environment to test out the powers and a full list of the numbers (not that we don't already have most of them) to let the people creating these sets the ability to try to balance them themselves... Any powers that are extremely unbalanced in submission would be extremely obvious and all of the "acceptable" ones would have to go through balancing anyhow at some point. As long as they are close enough I don't see how this could take up more man hours... yeah more powers means more time spent balancing them across the board when they all need to be, but that happens anyways they would just be another extra number to juggle and I don't see that as a problem... It's more a willingness issue than anything imo...

Thirdly, this is 2 things... the talent out there is not poor. There is a lot and a lot of people like to try even if they aren't good and a lot of people have a false sense of their abilities. There are more greatly talented people out there in obscurity than there are in any industry and that has always been the case. The reason you think it's more so a bunch of schlock is as mentioned above there is a lot that are learning or throwing their hat in to see what they really can do, but there are a ton of people out there that ARE able to do it and to very high if not better standards than professional standards (not a slight on the dev team)...

And the second part... there are people that are paid to do data entry... you know how incredibly painful and mind numbing data entry is? I'd rather take a job as someone who has to sift through animations and numbers possibly seeing something cool and adding it to something i love than I would like to do any sort of data entry (which is btw why data entry is paid well >.>)

Not true. Different dev teams use different tools for different purposes. Depending on the various processes used I know quite a few people that would be willing and able to do this...

  19. Durakken

    Powerset Devkit

This sounds completely insane, but let me explain...

The idea is that the devs give us a tool to make our own power sets... not sleek like MA, but rather something that is functional so that community members can use it to create full power sets for the game, balance, animate etc.

The reasoning behind this is that there are people in the community that are capable of doing the various parts if not the whole process and there are a number of ideas that the community has that are great, but it is a matter the time it takes to create and balance these things and the fact they could work on other things...

Of course it wouldn't be direct load so you would need a submission process and someone to look at them as well as a way to quick evaluate.

Now the main concern would be that there would be a flood and would eat up time or you would only get a few good ones in the heap of dung... but consider how hard it is to animate to the quality of whats liked in the game and balance the power sets to an acceptable degree. Not many people would actually take up the challenge or would be readily obvious that they aren't worth anything...

So what I think would happen is that several teams would form along with maybe an individual or 2 and they would produce new power sets every few months... This would give CoH a really cool thing to hold above over every other MMO (along with other things) and provide new powers pretty often... with little dev time being wasted... and not to mention we might get to crazy thing things like Clown Summoning which if the devs did it we would all probably be a bit upset, but if this created it we would all be happy...

    So...
+ Would adds new content constantly.
+ Doesn't eat up much dev time for other things.
+ Adds Content that we would like, but wouldn't want devs to waste time on.
+ Has a built in natural deterrent for badly done submissions.
+ Gives an unique ability that no other MMO has.
  20. Thanks, I thought that might be the case... but I wasn't sure.
  21. ... how this build has capped jumpspeed without any powers on and capped runspeed, flyspeed, jumpspeed, and 150ft jump height with Fly and ninja run on... even though I don't see any way that that could be happening...

Is this a glitch in Mid's or some kind of weird combination that was wasn't expected or what?

Lightfoot, responding in order to what you said...
I clarified as to why I said that.

why add more content for more advanced characters? Because more advanced characters would have more content. I would assume there are other ways to access the extra content but I would presume that most people wouldn't be able to on the first run unless they did grind arcs by shutting off gaining xp, because generally completing an arc does cause you to out level that area... it also doesn't make sense chronologically to have the enemies suddenly escape, so maybe there would be a time release on it or something.

It's also about a dynamic experience. as pointed out in the last paragraph... vahzilok being put away and instantly breaking out doesn't work nor does making him more powerful in a lot of cases.

While I agree with you to a point... I have to disagree with Batman... Batman went back into training...Azreal has no part of that, but it could be used to incorporate a part of the arc continued. However...overall the point still stands there are many characters that go through changes where they do have to start from a 0 point and regrow.

One wouldn't have to do the rebirth stuff any more than have to use the new IOs. It would be an option. It's an option to take the character in a direction. Not all cahracters fall and not all character get new gear.

    The. Devs. Said. NO!
yes posting "it aint going to happen" 3 times makes what you say fact.

I know what the devs have said and this isn't what the devs have said are not going to happen...

What the devs have said is not going to happen is the lvl cap being raised past 50, more power pools on top of the primary/secondary,and no full respecing, meaning that you aren't going to be able to get to lvl 50 with one set of powers and then change to another set which means you don't know how to use those powers. I am not suggesting ANY of those.

Bill, A respec allows you to keep your lvl... What I am suggesting doesn't therefor not a respec.

And "Run the same content at a penalty" does not "add more content"
Pay attention to what was said. You didn't, until you do, don't respond.

and Alts as character growth are asinine and are bad game design overall.

Warkup, you wouldn't have to "kill" your character... kill and rebirth are just easy words. Batman didn't die, he simply got injured. Notice i said there'd be a selction as to what happens, you get injured or whatever...

No it's not. It's about developing the character and story more and doing what people should be doing in an MMO"RP"G. It adds to the dynamic. It adds content. It adds growth without going above lvl 50. It makes sense in terms of comics. There is no reason not to do something like this as it has been done in a number of comics and those are memorable moments in those characters' history.
