yes ...I think it's just his perception on his experiences is all. One can't really say there are more good or bad on one side or another.

I may stop all my alt playing of blue AT's in villains to bring my MM over to give us a bad i mean better name =p
  3. My observations on MM from past 2006ish to Returning lately this year.

It seems the games changed a bit on being a lot more solo friendly. And I find many MM's out and about just street sweeping solo. The common thing I also hear from other MM is that they mostly solo and some even farm AE solo.

This creates the worst team player I think. They may as well be considered a new player when it comes to teams. I am on a lvl 40 villain team last night having to give pointers to the 2 MM.

This is what floored me. I mentioned Heel and Goto are your most important tools. The first thing I see in response "I never use those" /floored

Well don't worry about that =). Not my style to just heal and stare at paint drying. So as mentioned I went route of controller. Mezz+heals so I don't annoy gamers like you.

I didn't know of such a stigma in veteran world. I don't advertise like that at all so it's all good.
  5. Thanks for all the input. I went Controller since it was what I was describing. So far I have 2 now one is 22 the other is 32.

I still may roll a defender...maybe. Just cant figure out what kind. Corrupters I have plenty of...so defender doesn't seem to be something worth rolling ...

Am i wrong to think a defender is the Corrupter with a flip in primary/secondary ..? Doesn't sound like much to use to me if I already have a corrupter (about 4 of them to be honest)

I agree... I have tried to solo my cape mish and my aura mish on Villains. Painfully slow. if you don't have veteran attack powers like "Sands of Mu".. Plan on killing by boredom.

It's worse for me though. Elec/Empathy is not killing machine at all. Totally team dependent build.

I would prefer to stick myself with a stun gun for fun over killing solo.

It's also useful for when your to-hit plummets and you can't land a punch. There are times where this happens and it's very useful to have (my Kheldian in Dwarf form was missing Taunt when he was trying to tank Nosferatu for his team).

Plus, Taunt is ranged and it has a -range component. You don't have to run to the mob, and those mobs that like to shoot at you from range will usually run up to you once you throw Taunt at them. I miss having Taunt when fighting those mobs on my Brutes or Scrappers.

I don't really think it's worth fitting in to your build until your 20s or 30s (especially if you are using your aura and Gauntlet well, among other Tanker tactics), but it IS worth picking up at some point, even if you're going to mostly solo.
I have to agree Taunt is just a tool that is worth having if you tank. You don't have to slot it. Auto-hits.

As he stated you force ranged to come to you. It's very nice, fast recharge, low end, and effective skill.

now what is this Gauntlet you speak of? Seriously I don't know.

Yah I enjoy the tanker when I have this itching to lead the charge. My main reason was to bring something to GR with all the new teams and new players around.

I really do enjoy playing a Tanker like a "tank". Sure I suck solo. Sure I can not solo farm. I am built for team and it works great.

My only regret is going Mace. I would have preferred a warhammer being shieldless. It just doesn't look right. Bah...oh well.

I only find it strange people say tanks don't soak damage at low level..might be more accurate to say certain Primaries don't do well till later. On Electric armor I slotted it up asap... adding in the aura with taunt slotted in it. I was holding agro with no problems to my survival. My only problem was not having anti mezz yet. =\

Nothing can kill you and you don't have trouble with them it is just the fact is that it takes forever to kill something.
Well if it was you its all good man. Still a good build. And yes incredibly dull solo experience. I did my cape mish solo. I only solo that and the aura mish. Nobody cares to go on teams for those as much.

You should have seen how long it took me to kill the Carnies in my mish...my god. My sands of mu saved my time sink I had on killing.

Anyway...back to topic folks. Just wanting to clear things up for Negate and Merlin.

If you think it's much like thermal that again I have to say no. Pain does it's own thing and Thermal does it's own...Pain is not a mesh of Empathy and Thermal it may seem like that at first glance but it's not the case. *shrug*
I have thoroughly confused you it seems. You reinforced that Pain is not at all the same as Empathy. Previously I complained about how I wish I could have pain. Someone said "Go Empathy" its like pain.

Someone previously suggested that and you have now proved it not the case. My experience with Empathy (already have pain on MM) has also proven your point is valid.

    Follow me?

I don't know what Mids does, but I believe I am fine without it. Unless it puts me on some test server with a level 50 to try my powers on a test target, I doubt I would use it. But thanks for the suggestion.

I actually enjoy rolling alts (usually). So I don't mind re-rolling at 20 or less. I certainly am not unhappy with my Elec/emp performance. Just not what I hoped it would be like.

Still a very solid build. I hate to boast but I think there are many instances where my presence ensured the team to steam roll. So its a corner stone for a lot of teams. Just very dull... ....again i say VERY dull. =)

Static Field also returns a lot of end if theres a decent amount of targets.
Hell yah SF is awesome. I only play on large teams so far. Though only controller (soon dom electric). Your team will have some Stamina left over from a large group.

the more mobs there are ..the more effective a electric hold is. I open with Static if we don't have a Alpha taker in the team. Shut down an alpha before it could even begin.
Just remind your AOE'ers to NOT aoe on the start or you will get a Beta instead =p

Also take note I play electric/empathy controller now...so I depend on electric for all holds...as I stay up in the crazy chaos healing, buffing, and re-mezzing elec fences.
(very dull I might add but I rarely die ever).

So if you are worried about hold control mid fight...i wouldn't stress it. With your aoe immoblize, static, and aura of stamina sap. IF...and I say IF the fight lasts long..they wont have any end to be a real threat. You will probably be at full Stamina to. So you can re-apply all your mezzing all over again. This has so far been the case for me.

People don't know it yet I think..that electric is keeping their stamina bars filled up or at the least not empty. Also the mobs are so weak sauce once the stamina is gone.

Dare I say it....Dev's may have to Nerf Electric cause it's too effective on large clusters.

    New Dom tonight

Alright I used to play a Plant/plant dom back in the day. I have barely touched it but I did like the Dom class to dabble with.

Now I have just leveled high enough in Electric/Empathy Controller to get a good feel for Electric use. I think I am ready for something different now that isn't healing in between.

Now I have ruled out Thorn (dots), Fire (Dots), and heavy melee types of secondary like Earth.

I am mulling over going PSi or Ice now. Pros and cons with Electric Holds ...can yah provide some input of your experiences? I am not wanting anything that is melee heavy (when it comes to best skills on the AT Secondary). I am wanting more ranged that can compliment my electric primary.

PS: Team only player...I will never solo honestly.

Yah now that I am lvl 32 since I last asked what to roll with electric.... Empathy does not share more similarities of Pain than suggested by a different poster. It's not horrible but I would have just done Thermal if I knew it was going to be like this. Just not what I hoped it would turn out to be with those Aura's it has later in secondary.

bah....now to roll a Electric Dom!

No incentive to purchase then. I respect your opinion. I just disagree with it.

They want my money I want something better than a fluffy outfit. It's not like it gives me a I Win button. It just allows me to travel faster sooner. That is all. I don't see the problem with letting people get a good power like this for a cost.

Also if folks want to argue it's not fair they can skip a travel power...you can buy a jet pack...and still skip a travel power.
  16. Well I am glad I gave it one slot so I can have ACC put in with endurance enhancer.

I find it to be a handy tool only... For now at 32 maybe it'll change later when I have spare slots to hand out.

So far it's been my butt save for me. I normally Static then Jolt then I immediately chain fence...so as I cast chain fence the cluster is being juggled and staying together. Also prevents them from attacking by the time my chain is done they are re-slept.

I noticed if I dont Jolt first and do fences I get shot the heck up...so its a great tool if you end up setting up the pull for team.

Also if you notice your point man who takes alpha is getting too much heat...its a great way to stop all the attacks from most mobs next to him to give him a chance to get healed up.

Great thread...glad you tested it cause I was wondering.

The sleep effect allows teams to safely engage any mob without fear of an alpha strike, which is especially important for Elec, since has little in the way of hard control. This allows the team to break up a mob into more easily destroyed chunks. Even with AoE's flying around, you will have mobs still being put to sleep, and preventing damage.

The +End aspect of the power is significant. When my teammates learned of the +End, and stood in the patch, their end bars did not even budge. Keep in mind this is around lvl 18-19 or so, so all teammates were Pre-Stamina.

It also functions as an excellent way to negate *Oh $^#%* moments by being able to stop an enemy mob dead in their tracks.

So far, Static Field has proven to be a jack-of-all trades power that has proven it's worth to be one of the best powers in the set.
I have a earth/rad I leveled first. Now I have this Electric/Empathy and I find it pretty darn solid also.

Static is my most favorite thing due to the the fact it ticks sleep so if it breaks it can re-sleep..even for a second it does interrupt the enemy at the very least. Also I have used it in only large teams.

I also like to set up my team if we don't have a tanker or brute. It is one of my best alpha removers I have used... Did a Arc against the Protean and a large team and just made those mobs useless...

I also love the fact I never run out of end and it seems my team seems to recharge very well with large clusters. The bigger the cluster the more effective us Electrics are.

I dont know about you I normally start my chain with Sleep, knockdown spark thing, then Chain fences. This way after i break sleep I keep them juggled till sleep ticks again.

The biggest and rare problem I have had.... is when I aoe sleep....some fool uses a AOE dot followed up by constant AOE's .. not giving me a chance to do my chain. Causing me to get alpha'd.

I really really hate the fools that break an aoe sleep by always opening with AOE.... Mezz focus fire boss...then aoe fools! argh!

ok ok..enough ranting not the point...

On topic... Love Static.... just got this new controller to 32. Loving it with Empathy combo. I think I am going to make a DOM version now....
  18. Yah ..New blood.. Welcome and have a Shoot ton of Fun ... I am sure you will have an alt addiction soon enough. And costume design going into an hour at times.

If on freedom, my global names in sig. Just send me a tell mentioning this thread. I'll be glad to join your teams and hang out.

Tonight I will be on my new controller electric/Empathy so I can be of help for your teams if you like.

The flaw...I couldn't take a hit very well... So I stuck to more tactical fighting...Assisting on point man aka tank of the team mostly ...stay alive dish out dammage =)

Second stalker...I am feeling the endurance issue with Spines/something i forget ..at least I can take a punch.

Try the regen when you get a chance this weekend...but the trade off is NoT taking a punch to the face well. The bonus is just beating on mobs ..add hasten (someone else suggested this thanks) ..you are a pro boxer!

That really doesn't sound very Hero like to me. More like Elitist. You would think a Hero seeing a Ex-Villain try to repay his debts by atonement for all his sins as something worth respecting. As they earn it over time gaining some greater admiration for his efforts of changing his ways.

I mean that is what I think a RP hero would be like. Oh well...not like I would associate with folks who act like that to others anyway.

Thats funny you say that. I actually wanted to build up Def first and foremost. Being mace/electric. I figured why not since I had sands of Mu and Brawl. Worked out actually.

I held all the agro, my team killed it. We all pretty much stayed together all evening as I tanked for the leader of the team. Good night.

Though my team did like to make fun of my ONE attack...I was able to hold agro on clusters =).

I do say when I tried to kill something solo after I left GR (had two attacks by then)...cape mish in Red side...I took forever to kill long bow... I really felt like a true tank then...take hits...kill slow =p

Its ok...I am purposely building my Tanker for one purpose...to herd and hold mobs for my team.

I wish that was the case Flints. Evidence from my observation showed it was not the case. I Wish it was and someone voiced it. I would have said "No thanks, please take the point."
  22. I really wanted some enlightenment on it , and didn't want to assume they just sucked. Maybe there was a good reason I didn't know.

Also my only Tanker experience was a mace/elec. And in GR I was holding agro like a champ..first used that aoe dot aura slotted with taunt...once I actually got the taunt skill... I was very heavy in def with like 1 attack =) (minus sands, brawl) at the time. So because of my only experience I didn't want to misjudge my latest experiences with Tankers.

I am starting to think my gut feeling about them was on the money. Just sub par players.

Most of them minus one guy I recall didn't go in first at all. I was forced to on my Brute (Which specifically says Smash Built in note) on every fight. Due to I didn't want my squishy team mates to get Alpha. I could not hold mass agro well though =\. I felt bad to. And angry at the Tanker for not even being a "tank".

Seeing this happen several times with several differ teams...I started to wonder am I misjudging these Tankers....but I guess I am not...they were mostly just poor players.

*villain only player here- reason so ignorant to Tankers*
  23. Now I don't come down on tankers on my team for not having taunt. I do question why one would roll a tanker...and hang back and let brutes go in (which were all smash built) ..I have seen several times a tanker just sit back scared to be on the front...always going in after the entire team engages.

I am confused to. I only have one Tanker. I thoroughly enjoyed it and believe that my ideal tank should have taunt...should have taunts slotted in aoe dot that allows it (elect armor).

With that in mind I learned how well Tankers truly tank well.

Pre-GR I can understand maybe a tank trying to build towards offensive heavy ..being that no Brutes on blue side yet.

Now in the age of Brutes becoming a Hero, is there really any good reason why one would make a Tanker that is offensive strong? I find it boggling since Tanks are superior in the art of holding mobs on them vs dishing it out vs a Brute.

I figure that kind of player would roll a Brute to play like a Smash face type over a tank... I guess I was wrong. Cause lately all I seem to have seen is scared Tankers in groups for the last two days.

So enlighten me on the other kind of Tankers out there ...maybe I am misjudging the players using them. I found it too strange though to see such a timid tanker more than once...that didn't even bother or was able to keep agro in the teens.
  24. A Tanker that actually herds ....I can say it's not a huge issue. It only becomes an issue when (anyone with aoe KB) constantly throws everything out of my aoe taunt dot. That seriously pisses me off.

Otherwise a focused fire skill that KB's...so what if one gets kicked out of my cluster.. I don't really care. I do care with the KB is excessive or premature and screws me up in keeping mobs off my team...

For the most part I would take a energy blaster anytime with me when I am tanker for the night. I have no issue with the AT. I have issue with the Idiot behind the AT only...not the AT themselves.

p.s.: I also do try to herd near objects as much as I can for KB players...like those Kin melee types also. I am aware I must also work with my team mates. And holding near walls ..sure thing. When i can.
