You have to enter a credit card or game card and select a billing plan. However, you can cancel billing right after and still play until your free month is over; then, if sometime in your free month you decide to stick around (which we hope you will,) you can always subscribe at that time.

I just bought this game online in the NCSoft store, and it said it came with a month of game time. However, when I went to upgrade my account from a trial account to a paid account using the serial that was added to my NCSoft account, the site apparently required me to use a game time card or a credit card (with time purchase) in order to actually upgrade my account. How do I use the time that came with the game without buying more time? This is ridiculous.
