  1. I vote Tacky Tricky. Good mix of both worlds.
  2. It's times like this that I wish I played on Virtue. There are so many artists over there, that sometimes it would be cool to be amongst them.

    Great work, Toxic.
  3. Ya lost me at "r8". But I still tried...and then you REALLY lost me at "noe".

    Help please :)

    When COV first came out, my SG was levelling very quickly and we had new 50's just about every day. At one point, I was part of a 3-person ding-to-50, and I know we have screeshots of a 4-person.

    I'll try to locate those. They were fun.
  5. Oh wow! I'm SO glad I revisited this thread. Thanks for the link.
  6. First time I've seen forced registration to watch YouTube.

    In any event, I refuse to sign up for anything that I don't have to. Guess I'll miss these =(
  7. Doh! No Light-Speed =(

    Kidding, of course. Great piece! My hat's off to you and Graver.

    3D Swap Meet!!

    I pretty much do the same thing; limit my modelling to armor and other rigid bodies. Once I get to the clothing stage, I'll use an existing bodysuit and either create a texture and transparency map, or just photoshop the pieces on. Recently, I've been favoring making a texture map up front because the render will produce better results. Plus, I get the warm fuzzy that the character model is closer to the in-game one.

    As for exporting, I model in MAYA and export into OBJ. I've found that colors assigned in MAYA stay intact in Poser, so I'll often directly color polygons instead of mapping the vertices and creating a texture map.

    Once the OBJ is in Poser, I'll just parent it to the figure and I'm set. I was ust thinking it would be cool if the shoulderpads or whatever could be set up to automatically conform. Someday...

    3D Swap Meet!!

    Hey Magoo, I have a question for ya;

    I've been building COH-Poser props for several years and have a good collection, but I haven't shared them yet because I'm not smart enough to make them conform. Are you capable of making shoulderpads and belts conformable?
  10. Coloring a B&W image isn't that easy at all. If someone took the approach of ust adding colors and hoping the chading was already done, all they'll end up with is muddy colors. The B&W not only mutes the lightness of the color, but it's intensity as well, ultimately knocking the colors down into a very dark and colorless register. Colors such as red (which is inherently vibrant) are particularly affected.

    Are you looking to colorize a photo or a drawing?

    In photos, some colors can be compentated for by coloring them, and then gong back and punching up their saturation.

    If it's a drawing, you have a bit more freedom... but in my own attempts to colorize my drawings, I've found that the shading has gotten in the way of colorization attempts and I have usually resorted to erasing the shading entirely, and then applying color fresh.
  11. List the prices on your DA site. If a redname comes across this thread, it'll be deleted.

    Other than that... cool style, and welcome aboard!
  12. Her babies will be well fed, lol.

    Great piece. I love the technique.
  13. Juggy... you're a friggin MACHINE!

    Those look great - even down to the final few. I'm really impressed.

    /hat's off to you
  14. How come the artist disabled 'favorites'? I wanna fav that one.
  15. Thank goodness! I was getting a lot of spam.

    Ooo I'm gonna live by those rules from now on Doug!

    LOL, it's true though.

    Overdirection kills all those little sponteneous things that happen when an artist is creating. I find my pieces 'die' when I try too hard for a certain look. If I just 'let them happen', I continue to enjoy them for months (or even years) to come.
  17. This is an easy question; as little as possible.

    If the customer gives me a screenshot of their character, descrption of their powers, and 2 words that describe their personality, I'm set.

    If they try to tell me to put the character in a 'Wolverine-like' pose in King's Row fighting Carnies in the rain with an upward angle of 20 degrees under a streetlamp with 'uberdude rulez' written in the grafitti... too much direction and the piece becomes forced. That's when I refuse the commission.

    My new look!

    I prefer the old one as well.
  19. I'm really pleased with how well this piece is bing received - everyone is being so spportive, I can't wait for the chance to do more.

    Oh, and as far as Arctic Sun fighting Ghost Widow; maybe Light-Speed will need to make an appearance in a piece too...
  20. Chiming in since you asked...

    IMO, they look unfinished. That's fine if that's your intent, but I get the impression they're just a first pass towards a deeper treatment.

    Also (and this is a highly technical nitpick), Photoshop doesn't simulate marker very well - even through light applications of color overlayed. If you want to try to capture the marker feel, I'd recommend using Painter since their many brushes are specifically made to replicate drawing medums.
  21. With the release of issue #0 of the Fanzine, it's finally time for me to show this piece. I knew I'd be showing Statesman up close, so I ended up re-moddling him from my previous versions completely from scratch.

    I'm including the link to my DA verison, plus a close-up for detail.

    AWESOME! Here's an idea;

    Draw Light-Speed kicking some Sauron-butt! Here's a reference... Light-Speed

    Ok, maybe not... BUT BIG CONGRATZ ANYWAY!
  23. If you want to be an artist, I'd HIGHLY recommend that you learn another skill that will make you money and have the art be a sideline. Two main reasons;

    1 - It's very, very hard to make a comfortable living doing art. There's always someone else willing to draw it better for less.

    2 - Should you be lucky enough to get your art to pay for your living, it becomes a 'must do' process and isn't that fun anymore. I gave up freelance because I was forced to draw what paid the bills and not what fed my soul. Now, when I leave my day job, I can come home and comfortably draw whatever I want.
  24. I just added another character; Zatanna.

    I'll be removing Flash's dialog later so Hawkman shows better. Plus, I have a SG memeber that did a great Martian Manhunter, so I'll add him shortly as well.

    Ah... historic revisionism...
  25. My SG got together this week for a little costume party and we took a few shots of the event. This year, we chose a theme for our costumes and really enjoyed the results. Of course, we don't KEEP these outfits and only wore them in the base... but I thought the composite image was fun enough to post.
