I was wondering if anyone knew a good place to tell how to color a black and white picture in photoshop? I hear its really easy because the darkness/brightness is already done, then you just add the colors... but thats what im having trouble with (not sure how to add them hehe)

Thanks!

Coloring a B&W image isn't that easy at all. If someone took the approach of ust adding colors and hoping the chading was already done, all they'll end up with is muddy colors. The B&W not only mutes the lightness of the color, but it's intensity as well, ultimately knocking the colors down into a very dark and colorless register. Colors such as red (which is inherently vibrant) are particularly affected.

Are you looking to colorize a photo or a drawing?

In photos, some colors can be compentated for by coloring them, and then gong back and punching up their saturation.

If it's a drawing, you have a bit more freedom... but in my own attempts to colorize my drawings, I've found that the shading has gotten in the way of colorization attempts and I have usually resorted to erasing the shading entirely, and then applying color fresh.

They take old black and white movies and turn them to color! so there has to be some kinda trick to get the nice colors out of it!
