  1. Well that was unexpected.

So much for that whole, "We'll save things" nonsense.

One Piece's art style is horribly offputting. Yet funnily enough, it's somewhat similar to Code Geass, which is awesome.

Naruto's 87 filler seasons before Shippuden were bleh. Hated Bleach's Bount arc.

Also, I know that technically Han and Lando were generals at the end of Jedi, but who thinks that they know how to command a fleet of ships in a strategic war? (see=courtship of Princess Leia)
General is usually used to denote persons that are in charge of ground personnel or air force units. For the Rebel Fleet, it would, probably, be an Admiral that was in charge of disposition of the ships or tactical planning (hence Admiral Ackbar).

And even if someone is a General, there can be others higher than them, if you go on the U.S.-style, i.e. 1, 2, 3, & 4 star Generals.

But for Han, he did go through the Imperial Flight Academy before he went smuggler.

Take up too much space and are a touch more difficult to clean. The "monkey grinder" as you put it, also makes a relatively nice decoration in a kitchen, whereas a ginormous hunk of plastic? Not so much.

And a food processor is useless if the electricity goes out.

I don't like those for the simple fact that I always scrape the hell outta my knuckles on 'em and it takes far too long, comparatively. The drum grater is a lot quicker plus a lot less muss and fuss.
  8. Right Stuf is having a at least 30% off sale on pretty much everything till Aug. 16th. Includes preorders and special order items, but not their bargain bin/weekly specials/closeouts.

Might be the time to stock up if there's some titles you want.
  9. Ever make home made hashbrowns? If you have antique stores around, you can probably find a crank grater - an object with a handle and possibly several different grater styles on removable drums - for quite cheap. Get one of those (making sure to clean off any rust or gunk), clean and de-eye some yukon gold potatoes. Put in the shoestring attachment in the grater. Grate the potatoes.

Now, here's the neat part. Take a white onion, clean it (remove the outer layers) and then put that in the grater as well. Add the shoestring'd onion bits, vary depending upon your preference, to the potato mixture.

For convenience, you can use a cookie pan to spread out the mixture to about an inch thick. Separate into serving size portions while still on the sheet. Pop the sheet into the freezer. Once frozen, take out and put into a snap-seal plastic bag.

Voila. Quick and tasty hashbrowns that cook up with a bit of butter and salt real good. If you are feeling adventurous, you can throw in some chopped garlic as well to the pre-frozen mixture.

  11. To be fair to the guy, this might be his first time experiencing this. He reg'd in March of '09 and there's been what? Only one or two pre-downloads since then? And he might not have been subbed at that time to begin with.

  13. I've been considering getting a new router with wireless capability (but still has wired connectivity), since my Wii doesn't really work all that well with the wireless dongle thingie that Nintendo made. It doesn't handle going through walls all that well and the computer is in another room.

My current router is about 5-6 years old. I think I've updated the firmware once or twice.

This wouldn't be for iPod/iPad/DS/laptop/etc., just for the Wii, if I did get one. The wireless capability that is. It would still need to have ports on it.

    Any recommendations or thoughts?

Edit - By 'necessary or advisable', I meant is it either in terms of age of the router itself? Am I still getting any protection, at this point, from it's firewall? Or is that just basically a feel-good type protection to begin with?
  14. I tried making a deep-fried hamburger today...

It was ok. Just cooked it a trifle long. Maybe a lower temperature than what I had the fryer set at as well.

In Scott Pilgrim, he has to defeat her ex in an epic fight that tracks combos, scores, and hit gauges. Winner gets the girl. Loser turns into coins and experience points.

The movie's going to weave together romantic comedy tropes with video game tropes at the speed of a seamstress of crack. Have you seen the trailers? Most of the movie is something that, like Inception, has to be experienced more than explained...
That sounds...odd...at best. It doesn't help that Cera (that's his name, right?) isn't that strong of an actor, IMO. He's sidekick material at best and even then only in small doses.

By removing the Dark Side, you restore balance.

I think part of the problem is the terminology: Dark Side. This has led people to assume, naturally, that the Jedi practice the Light Side. I personally believe this assumption to be a mistake.

Can anyone point me to a time in the movies where a character says the phrase "The Light Side of the Force"? I can't remember one (and I may be mistaken). There is 'The Force', and then there is 'The Dark Side'.
If one looks at the Force as Life (Light Side) and Death (Dark Side), then they both have to be present. Using your nature analogy, the predators have to be in balance with the prey. If you have too many predators, then the prey will probably be wiped out beyond the survival point. If you have too many prey, the predators will grow to the point that they won't be able to survive on the prey. If there's too much prey, they'll also stress their environment to the point where it's no longer capable of sustaining them.

If you remove Death (Dark Side) from the equation, it is too far balanced in terms of Life.

One of the benefits of living in the country is that I have the room to grow what I want without the worry of space. My garden plot is bigger than a lot of the housing plots in a mid-size city/town.

Though at times it gets to be a bit much. Sweet corn is fine...till you have it every day for a month and a half. >.< There's nothing like going out into the garden and just grazing on whatever strikes your fancy. Peas fresh outta the pod or cherry tomatoes popped off the vine.
  19. Could someone explain Scott Pilgrim to me? I kinda want to see it, but since it stars that kid from Arrested Development, I kinda don't.

Same Jedi that think a person isn't allowed to love or have a family? How can one be this grand protector and judge if they aren't allowed any empathy with the beings they are protecting?

Saying the Dark Side isn't supposed to be there is the same as saying jealousy, lust, hate, betrayal, etc., aren't supposed to be there either. But they are. Those things will always be there, since it's part of being a person. Trying to eliminate the Dark Side means you also have to eliminate those emotions and thoughts from every sentient being in that galaxy. Which also means that Free Will needs to be eliminated as well. One cannot know Good without Evil there by which to measure it.

I willing to have some disbelief in the infalliable nature of the Jedi. Being wrong, on occassion, is also part of being a person.

Usually by mid-July, the place has dried out, the lawn has turned nice and brown and it's hot, but bearable. This year, it's been record rain. One week alone we got around 8 inches of rain. That translates to unbearable humidity (and a never-ending cycle of humid->thunderstorm to take care of the humidity->humidity from the rain baking out->etc) and lots of lawn mowing. Start of August now and I'm STILL having to mow the lawn.

I put brown sugar into chili. And a little bit into spaghetti sauce. Adds a nice little zip to it.
  25. 6 is just about right for my location. BUT it's looking like a hella big storm tonight.

That's basically what this entire summer has been...humid and stormy. One would think I'm living in the South given that for the most part, the air has been nice and chewy rather than breathable since May.
