Quote:Inf != Dollars. At least it isn't to me, I don't know if you think 1 dollar is worth 1 inf, but I certainly don't.INF/Dollars.... = the same thing in this game. How about being useful and reply with a logical reason to help and not try to be smart, because frankly its not working....
The thing is, I bet many people experience a sort of price shock when they enter the WW for ubah lootz. They see the price tag and think one billion dollars, I see one billion units of play money. Guess which one of us is more shocked by the price? The situation is very similar in many board games, take Monopoly for an example. For most people it's not problematic to spend hundreds of units of play money during a session of that game while they would never do that with real money. This game just adds a few zeroes to the end of those hundred units of play money.
Quote:The "GOOD" sets that people actaully WANT in this game are very expensive. NOT JUST PURPLES....
Go buy a full set of Kin Coms, Numinas, Miracles, LotG, etc. and let me know how little you got it for. The whole set. Go ahead, i'll wait. Noone wants air bursts, serendipity, and plenty of other sets. They may as well delete them from taking up space. Who actually goes to WW to get them for their builds? Go ahead and look at the sub forums and find a build posted where people want them in their builds.
As for full sets of Kinetic Combat, Numina, etc., you can get those for very little compared to their "market worth" if you're patient. I do TFs and get my R merits and don't roll them all at once, instead I convert them to A merits and roll them 50 at a time that way. It gets me better returns, but takes a bit longer. Often I get rare IOs I need, sometimes I don't, and what I don't need I sell. Patience goes a long way in making builds affordable.
You want rare IOs? Well, you can either have the build at a low cost or right now. You can only pick one of them. -
Leveling up isn't a problem, especially with the DXP. I just like to think up the "finished product" early on, so that I can start putting down bids on the expensive stuff in the late 20s when I've decided whether I like the character or not.
I'm probably not going to follow the power order or slotting in this build anyway while leveling up. -
Because of DXP I decided to start up a new character and ended up going Inv/Kin. I've been wanting to roll an Inv tank for a while as well as try Kin Melee, and because they should synergize nicely, I thought I'd give it a go.
Goals were to get at least close to soft cap defense to S/L/E/NE with one enemy in melee range, perma DP (will be with +Rech Alpha) and sustainable endurance (should be). I won't be soloing AVs on this, and most teams have at least one set of Maneuvers to buff my Defense which is why I didn't go for soft cap. F/C wasn't that much of a concern because it's rare.
So, anything obvious I could improve without losing stuff like perma DP? I'm not that attached to any of the KM attacks because the tank is still level 1 so I'm willing to skip stuff if it provides some benefits. Budget isn't an issue unless purples or PvP IOs enter the scheme.

Part of the "big price tag" problem is that people think in dollars (or any other currency) instead of influence. 100 million influence is a relatively small sum of currency whereas 100 million dollars or euros is way more than most families can earn in a lifetime.
Think in influence: how much one influence is worth, what your basic salary (1mil/hour) can get you, how much influence you need for a really good build compared to baseline (hint: not very much). -
I have a lvl 12 Dominator I'm hoping to get to the early 30s. Possibly taking Ice/Kin and Inv/Fire tanks to 22 as well.

Quote:The funny thing is, if people didn't have to have everything RITE DIS MOMENT flipping would be impossible. Marketeering altogether would be pretty much impossible, you might just be able to make small profits for crafting, and even then those would be very small.I depend on this.
Just to assure that I am the one getting the sale, when I set things for sale, I list them at prices that might well cost me money if they were actually bought at that price. But, almost always, they sell for the next bump up and then I profit--almost always. Sometimes someone will bid creep in small enough increments that I lose a little here and there.
Thus, my proposal to "fix" the market is to find a cure for gottahaveitnowitis. -
Quote:Yeah, let's.Oh indeed !!
Lets go over the dogmas the market forum has put forth over the years.
Quote:You couldn't raise the price of an item and make a profit off of it. That was a great one. You even had Smurphy's empty challenge of raising above the equilibrium price and making a profit. He defined the equilibrium price as the highest price you could sell at and still make a profit. I still chuckle over that.
Quote:Nethergoat's endless bit on flipping not raising prices. We got the lovely bit of spin from that trying to differentiate flipping from monopolizing. Finally ending with him holding the positions that "Flipping is not monopolization" and "Flippers can't coexist in a niche" simultaneously.
Quote:Flippers Stabilize prices. This seems to be a tenet of faith and one that is provably wrong. Just start to play with common salvage to make a profit.
Quote:If you want to understand just how inefficient our market is, just the watch the amount of inf you can make by simply shifting the price of items to odd numbers.
It really does irk me when people let their own "tenets of faith" get in the way of logic. I don't think our market is perfect, I don't necessarily like paying a lot for some of the stuff that I buy, but at least I realize why this happens and that whenever I pay that price I support the system. Oh yes, I'm a lazy marketeer and I only use the market to get influence for the stuff I want to have. If it's at the "expense of others", it's not my problem because I'm not forcing them to pay me, if they decide in their very own head that they want STUF NAO and then pay the price to get it RITE NAO, they don't really have any right to complain. What's the thing they say again - patience is a virtue? -
I rate it 1 because it does nothing a Scrapper should do: it won't survive, and what's even worse, it won't even put out good damage. I hope you aren't serious with this.
-
My "philosophy on economy", so to say, has evolved into something quite funny. I have so much inf there is no point in selling high-end stuff because the only things I'd use sums of that kind for are, well, the same high-end stuff. This is why I store most purples, LotG +Rechs and the like, and only use influence to buy uncommon IOs and less expensive items. I do sell everything else, though, because I don't want to clog my inventory and it doesn't hurt me to turn back the next day and buy the thing I just sold if we're talking about figures under 50mil.
-
My last few 50s have all taken about 100 hours of time logged in to reach level 50. They've all been in a level pact with a friend of mine, but he never plays without me so some of the time I play at half xp and the rest at full xp. Sadly I never get to enjoy the XP for nothing part

Quote:Glad I could help. Just note that some of the builds (I think two or three) are a bit outdated in that they don't have inherent Fitness. Anyways, they should provide some slotting ideas even if you don't want to follow them exactly.Hmm, I believe I will use a build from DSorrow's guide. It's close to the build I have in effect now on the live servers, but taking out the travel powers and hasten allows it to be more effective, and the slotting is different. I was going redside for the fun of a pet. However, the guide allowed me to refine my build and remove the weaknesses. It's too good to pass up. Thanks for the help.

Let me direct you to my Katana/Inv guide (link in sig)
As a general piece of advice, I'd rather go for constant Defense and +Recharge rather than +HP/+End and +Rech. Constant +Def helps with staying alive, it also lets you pick Body Mastery instead of Soul Mastery for better Endurance management making +End bonuses less useful, and +HP is quite useless anyway because you should be trying to make Dull Pain perma.
Other things I'd note:
1) Slotting Stamina is paramount as is getting the +Recovery uniques into health.
2) Point one brings me to set choices, Obliteration is kind of bad because neither of your powersets come with Endurance management powers and Obliteration has very little in the name of EndRedux. Go for a combination of Eradication/Scirocco (+regen, +E/NE Def, +end), Eradication/Cleaving Blow (+end, +recovery, +E/NE Def) or Cleaving Blow/Scirocco (+regen, +recovery, +E/NE Def).
3) Slot Parry with Accuracy. If it doesn't hit it won't do a thing for you.
4) Move Armageddon into Head Splitter and Hecatomb into Hack. This way you'll get the most out of the procs. The Armageddon proc is nice in Whirling Sword, but ST damage is where it's at in Sword builds. Also as a general note, skip the pure Damage IO from purple sets. It does very little.
5) Drop Unstoppable. With a good build you should need it very, very rarely so getting Demonic Aura/Eye of the Magus should cut it. At least that does the job for me.
6) You should fully slot your Resistance toggles for Resistance. Same goes for Defensive toggles. -
Phalanx Fighting was set to 1 ally. Set it to 0 to see what kind of numbers you'll get without a teammate hugging you.
-
It would help if you described what exactly is wrong.
The only thing I can tell from a quick glance is that you're getting different damage numbers from what Mid's says. This might be because of two things: 1) you have AAO set for max targets which is not always true and 2) you have the build up proc in FA activated which in reality only has a 5% chance to activate every 10 seconds. -
Quote:I was wondering when you'd come to this. Every now and then I actually try and see if eryq has changed, but every single time I come back to the conclusion that he has already decided that he is right and no amount of logic or reason will convince him that his view of the economy might be wrong. Yes, I'm not even talking about opinions, it's flatout wrong to ignore the changes in the world around you while claiming nothing should change because you don't.
Anyway, I think at this point I give up. You're asking questions, then ignoring the answers and pretending they weren't answered. You appear militantly opposed to ever comprehending basic economics. I don't know what your objection to it is, but... I give. This is pointless. You are ineducable. You will live in a world full of mysterious conspiracies and malicious events, all of which are entirely in your own head. -
Quote:If you think that's bad you should see the price of gas here.1) It's ok to call me what you wish. .99 cent gas would help this country's economy for far more than it helping oil companys at the going rates of 3-5 dollars a gallon.
Quote:2) When gas was .99 cents per gallon, i don't ever remember anyone i knew or ever seen at the pumps hoarding it and reselling at the flea markets.
Quote:I don't use any more gas now than i ever did so i don't see teh demand for it to increase every year to the point that working people can't even go shopping once and a while due to gas having to be treated like a regular househould bill now.
An easy way to think about it. There are 100 pieces of currency total that people use for gas and 100 pieces of gas. Logically, their worth has to be equal so 1 piece of currency equals 1 piece of gas. What happens when the supply of gas has diminished to 50 pieces? Well, people still have 100 pieces of currency so a piece of gas is now worth 2 pieces of currency. -
I certainly hope nothing of this sort happens to me. I was 13 when I started playing so it is highly unlikely I'll ever find any of the original information...
It would be kinda nice to be able to fill out an ID form of some sort for NCSoft which they could then use to check identity if needed. No idea what kind of information it should have, but probably full name, some other information and a few personal questions should suffice. -
Quote:Duh, does anyone actually *want* to pay any sum of [insert currency] for anything? Some people might know it's better for their own interest in the game / real life economy / whatever if people actually do transaction with currency, but I'd wager most people still don't *want* to pay. It's a whole other thing to think "hey, I want that Numina and I'm *willing* to pay this much for it". Yes, I'd rather pay less for that piece of Numina, but if I do really want it, I'm going to pay enough that I'll get it so I'm not complaining about the prices.
It's not that someone goes to WW saying, hmm, i WANT to pay 50mil for a numina recipe. They HAVE to in order to obtain it. The rates have gone up in stupid %'s in teh past year. And people think its because someone just wants to go to WW and pay the going rates. Yea, someone may throw up an extra million or 10, but that doesnt mean EVERYONE wants to or can. But, the market can't see that part of the equation. All it can see is an ever increasing rate due to people placing the sells for the "going rate" or the last couple sold and assuming everyone wants to pay that.
Perceived worth = going rate. It's not made up stuff, really. If the perceived worth of an item for many people is higher than what the perceived worth is for you, it doesn't mean people are doing it only to make you pay. If it costs too much, don't buy it. Simple. For as long as you refuse to pay the "going rate" there are people who value the item higher than you and thus are willing to pay more and should get it first.
Besides, it's silly to argue about stuff being expensive. It takes 22 missions over four days to get a LotG +rech which you can sell for at least 100mil and then fund a decent IO build. Do that a few times and you can get a really good IO build. If you complain about purples, that's another kettle of fish because they're supposed to be very rare = demand >>>>>>> supply = high prices.
Quote:Think about someone other than yourselves every now and then. -
Leadership is nice... If it's needed, but I avoid it like a plague on tanks because it's bad on them. Scrappers get some more use out of it because they do need every little defensive buff they can get their hands on. Still, it's best on an AT that has good modifiers.
-
Just something I noticed with a quick glance: you're soft capped even without Maneuvers so drop that and Tactics and move the Gaussian's set to Rage. You now have two free power picks, better slotted Rage and less endurance usage.
-
Quote:I used to be fine based on drops only, but then my standards for "good" IO builds became higher while available time for playing diminished. It just is no longer feasible for me to get these good builds in a reasonable amount of time (for me) based on just drops, and believe me, I'm patient. So, I choose marketeering.Originally Posted by eryq2What's wrong with just selling drops obtained? Like i said, i have 2 accounts of purpled toons, soft capd defenses, high valued enh in storage, several purples recipes and about 11 7.5 lotg level 25s recipes on a toon. I have used not 1 scheme, niche, flipped or done anything but sell items. So, what's the point of all the other BS?
This choice has helped me make my gaming experience into what I want it to be: no more grinding TFs or farms in order to get the stuff I want, but rather I can do a TF every now and then if I happen to have time or do missions without having to worry about their rewards. It just makes the game more enjoyable for me, and believe it or not, I'm not doing marketeer to "crap on someone else's gaming experience". I can't even remember the last time I did flipping, most of the time I just craft stuff because it's easy and fast (I'm lazy) and that way I provide a service for which I'm paid. Fair game, in my opinion. -
The way I interpret it, is that you'll just get a bunch of XP awarded upon the completion of the TF. I guess it'll be like arc bonuses.
-
I don't think seeing an opportunity and taking advantage of it is wrong. People do it in real life, too. In the CoX universe marketeering is pretty much providing a service no matter how you do it:
1) "Flipping": You buy huge numbers of certain items at a low price and relist them higher to make profit. How does this differ from real life stock merchants? They buy the stuff, put all of them for sale at one place and refuse to sell at a price that doesn't make them profit. Why aren't they evil while marketeers are?
ETA: For those who didn't bother to think through this themselves, the flippers are being patient so that their customer doesn't have to. They bid low and wait, you pay them because they waited for you. Simple enough?
2) Crafting: You craft stuff so that lazy people don't have to. Again, you provide a service for which you are paid.
The whole point of this is (something anti-marketeers can not grasp for some reason) that people in this game have absurd amounts of influence. If 100mil is chump change for them, they won't hesitate to throw a bid of 50mil on something that is going for 30-40mil if a bid around those figures doesn't get one instantly. And as was pointed out earlier, it is flat out impossible to sell certain items at low prices. For example, I'd wager a billion inf on a Gladiator's Armor (lvl 50) unique selling for two billion even if you listed it at 1 inf. Most purples would also go for more than a couple of hundred million even if listed at 1 inf. Flat out impossible to sell them under the "going rate" unless you have piles of them to crash the price with.
I think it is funny when people complain about the sellers when it's actually the buyers who are to blame. If the seller's price is too much (i.e. no one is willing to pay that much) he has to lower the price because there is nothing compelling you to buy that except your own entitlement. IOs are not like food, we don't need them to survive, so if people are willing to pay that much, the price is fair no matter which way you put it. -
I'm having a lot of fun with my Illu/Cold. Not the first time I roll something synergistic and a bit later someone else notices it too and it becomes a FotM.

I play this game for two reasons: the community and because it lets me wreck faces. Sometimes I want to play something challenging and I play either games like Ninja Gaiden (strain my reflexes...) or something like Civilization (intellectual challenge). I always come back, though, I find it fun to effortlessly decimate hordes of enemies in good company without having to worry about timing powers. Planning builds provides some intellectual challenge, too.
Community is also one of the reasons I have stopped playing many MMOs and PvP. I don't get what's "cool" about appearing dumb and insulting by using no other means of communication except lolspaek or txtspk with every other word being an insult. PvP even within our community has this which is one of the reasons I won't touch it.
