  1. Hehehehe...

I'd post my own opinion on the OP, but everyone got in here before me!

Oh, and before I forget, excellent ownage there 37! :P

    Spines/Wp/Pyre

What kind of a budget are you thinking of? A lot depends on that.
  3. DSorrow

    Spines/Wp/Pyre

IMO, Spines is probably the set that benefits least from Pyre Mastery. You already have gobs of AoE to dish out so I think it's stupid to spend two power picks just to get Fire Ball which is worse than any of your other AoEs.

I wouldn't be so skeptical about this. Some powers do work strangely with different enhancements, such as Hot Feet getting its Slow component enhanced by Travel/End HOs.

Now I might actually consider swapping the LotG Def/End for a Rech/End in Grant Cover...

    CI or HP?

Basically it all boils down to whether you're willing to sacrifice ST damage for a little bit of more AoE (with a low-to-medium recharge build). Ask me and it's yes because I didn't roll my ElM/SD to solo single tough targets, but rather to decimate big spawns of weaker enemies.
  6. 1) WP is a bit weak against alphas and debuffs. Especially Def Debuffs with enemies that have hard hitting attacks. This is because WP has no Debuff Resistances except for Regen Debuff.

    2) Building for +HP and +Def would be ideal with WP. You already have truck loads of Regen and WP doesn't benefit from +Rech. That is not to say that +Rech does not benefit you, though, because all of the attack sets benefit from additional Recharge to allow you to use your best attacks more often.

    3) Can do this later if you tell me what set you want paired with WP.

    4) It might help you, but personally I don't see the need. WP can easily exceed 50 HP/sec regeneration making Aid Self quite superfluous. Also when you have no Def Debuff Res, the situations where you'd need Aid Self will have you being hit so often you probably won't get the chance to fire it off.
  7. I'd probably go for Blaze Mastery just to get Fire Ball. From my experience with MA, its AoE is a bit lacking.

  9. Elec Melee combined with Fiery Aura does respectable amounts of AoE damage even without LR which is a nice boost with its ability to wipe out whole spawns in one shot. In a farming situation, Thunder Strike, Chain Induction and Jacobs Ladder are all bound to hit more than one target bumping your overall damage done. And don't forget Blazing Aura, it does quite good even as your only AoE.
  10. I think an Elec/Fire/Blaze would be very efficient against demons. You should have capped Fire Res which means only taking 25% of their quite pitiful damage. You also use a damage type which they have no Resistance against and you have a quick recharging self heal. Add to that two BU like powers you can cycle and you should be quite damn fast against those demons.

Oh, I think I forgot to mention your damage aura which does more damage on average than most (all?) AoE clicky attacks.
  11. Once you get to the higher levels and get access to Conserve Power and Physical Perfection I can't see you having much problems. Both of the sets are really solid and you can, with not too much investment, buff your Defenses, Recovery and Recharge with IO sets.

This is just a quick example build; no particularly expensive IOs used but you won't do it with some pocket change either, though. It'll require some saving up but it shouldn't take you too long.

  12. I guess with power customization you could use the dark fire set and colour your attacks olive green and pretend you're throwing toxins.

    That's all for the moment...

By the way Nihilii, I'd like to see how your (planned? current?) build compares to what I've planned for when I hit 50 because your builds are usually quite good!

  14. Scrappers with Fire Blast/Dark Blast and weapon sets? Ack, consider me in distress with builds now! :P
  15. I'd expect it to perform very nicely if you get some IO sets to improve typed Defense, Endurance management and Recharge. As a long time player of an /Inv scrapper (since I3 or whatever it was at EU launch) who has a completely blinged out Kat/Inv I can tell you Invuln gets just stupidly powerful with good IO investment.

As for Elec Melee, mine is currently level 33 but I just love it. It has insane AoE which goes well with Invuln because you get more powerful the more enemies you have around you.

The only thing I can see going wrong with this combination is Endurance costs, but I think getting Stamina, Conserve Power and Physical Perfection should see you through it without much additional IOing to cover your Endurance bar.

    You could consider something like this for the build. Not a particularly expensive one;

  16. *Tumbleweed*

There must be someone out there with an opinion on the build? Just asking because getting no feedback at all is actually worse than getting bad feedback.
  17. I can see where you're coming from. My Kat/Inv is just very heavily IOd which might affect my view of the set. I'm at 26% Def to all before any targets enter Invincibility.

A minor quirk, Defense is actually just the thing you should add on Invuln. The way defense works, every percent gives you more protection than the previous until you hit 45% which isn't all that hard to achieve. And at 45% you're only taking 5% of the incoming damage which will further be reduced by Resistance.

Bleh. You seem to intentionally miss my point. Kat/Inv is one of the better rounded sets there are with good ST damage, mediocre AoE and sturdy self-defense. It IS probably the superior combination when fighting enemies that deal exclusively, or very close to exclusively, S/L damage.

Invuln was also recently buffed so that it received good amounts of DDR (50%) as well as slight buffs in Damage Resistance and some random effect Resistance. This means it is not as susceptible to cascading defense debuff failures as it used to be and unlike DA is now. Even though you can softcap a Kat/DA relatively effortlessly, it won't sustain a cascading def debuff failure as well as an Invuln who on top of DDR also has higher Resistance against S/L damage which is the most frequent damage type associated with def debuffs.

I'm not trying to belittle Kat/DA or even idolize Kat/Inv. Both of the sets have their weaknesses and also their strengths, and I believe when comparing these two sets against each other Kat/DA is the more offensive one while Kat/Inv is the defensively superior set. A good player will be able to leverage both of the set combination very effectively and should not be stopped by the "too long recharge" of Dull Pain. It could be said /DA is "way too heavy on end" which is not true in all cases. IF the player knows what he's doing he shouldn't be troubled by the "long recharge of DP" or the "end heaviness of DA".
  19. I'm actually quite sure -Res DOES NOT increase the effects of further -Res. -Res should always use the undebuffed Resistance value when calculating how big portion of the effect will take place. If -Res actually did increase -Res values it would be absurdly powerful. Just think about it, after 100 cycles of that attack chain you would be looking at 1.26^100 * 1.13 Resistance Debuff applied by the next Sonic blast.

Which is to say 1.23 * 10^12 % Res Debuff. In one number that is 1 230 000 000 000 % Res Debuff. Quite absurd, yes?

This is assuming my math is right, but the point is we'd see an exponential increase in the Res Debuff we're doing.

Don't know about you, but I don't need DP that often. Last ITF I did I didn't use it even once. It has saved my life often, but after being used you're at capped HP and you have good regen because of that.

Also with the 50% DDR Invuln has nowadays it isn't all that frequent for it's Defense to fail. Besides, -Def mostly comes with Lethal attacks and with Divine Avalanche + Invincibility + Tough Hide + Weave + Set Bonuses you should be way over the soft cap for that.

EDIT: As an afterthought; I've soloed 3 AVs simultaneously on my Kat/Inv. No temps or insps were used in that process. The fight took me some 45mins I believe and the AVs never took me down. So much for relying on the heal from DP
  21. I suggest Tractor/Planting. I hear that makes up for some good plant farms.

On a more serious note, a spines/WP would be good for a low to medium investment build. For a higher investment ElM/Shield.
  22. Time for a necro!

My Elec/Shield is going on pretty nicely, level 32 right now and enjoying my unslotted Lightning Rod. Can't wait to get to 37 to have both LR and SC slotted to really start decimating stuff...

Anyways, let's get to the point. I recently made another billion influence (woop, go me :P) and with my sporadic playing I decided I'd go pretty much all out on the ElM/SD because it will most probably take over a month to get him to 50 which will give me time to make more millions of inf I don't really have a use for currently. And no, I don't do charity. Sorry! :P

I've improved the build I posted earlier a bit, it now has more +Rech, more DDR, I think more +Dmg and +Acc while it keeps similar regeneration (a bit less, but with the improved DDR I don't think it's a problem). While FireBall and FireBlast might be good additions to the build they don't really fit the concept and I'm quite sure it'll be good enough to have LR or SC available at every spawn. Besides, I much prefer the basically infinite endurance Conserve Power and Physical Perfection provide me. And before anyone gets around to doing it, I don't really like Energy Torrent.

All improvements to the build are welcome! It's basically an infinite budget build, but I'd like keeping it down to these two purple sets and I won't get any PvP IOs due to their cost and availability.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't really get what you mean here. My Kat/Inv stays alive in pretty much any situation.

More than one AV against him and no support available? Check.
    Boss only spawns? Check.
    Uh.. easier encounters? Check.

The only place where I don't expect top tier performance without popping insps or relying on support is against psi-heavy foes, or stuff with extreme debuffs (though IME extreme debuffs as an Achilles' heel apply to all ATs/powersets).
  24. I suggest starting your IO game with something else than purples.

First off, purples are damn expensive. I recently broke 1 billion inf mark the second time but even then I prefer builds that have no purples. 99% of the time they cost too much for the benefit.

Second, if you're only starting with IOs it is better to purchase lower priced sets first. This is simply so that you don't suddenly regret your choice of an expensive IO set where something much cheaper would've been better.

You can easily IO a whole character with 100-400mil, so I don't really see the point starting to outfit your character with "ubar lootz" just because it's the best.
