    I19 Badge Guide

Seriously, does it matter what badge is given with what name attached? I mean, playng through the arcs, the images match correctly to each TF. Like BT said, the Battle Maiden spear image goes with the TF that Battle Maiden is in. The Neuron and Portal go with the Tin Mage TF.

It just seems people carry on over useless info and just either want to waste more time by having a dev rename or address something in the game files. (And yes, reading game files is still considered a no-no, especially when you're telling people in public "well, the game files say differently." "Permission" or not, you're not supposed to discuss the files within the game that you can access/read outside of the game.)

In other words: is it really all that important? Really? I don't see anyone making a stink over the ToT Costume badge names that they weren't renamed from the badges that they never even used in game.

This is, by far, one of the best things I've seen in quite a while. To the folks at Titan, I applaud you all. Can't wait for the systray minimize!

It's not always an issue with NCsoft. It's an issue with International Bank Fraud that many banks disallow the purchase.

I've had an EU account for a couple of years. Each time I tried to make a purchase through the EU NCsoft store, with my Visa Debit Card, I was getting all kinds of errors. I also got the "Fraud Alert" message. After a lengthy conversation with some EU support, I was told that my bank wasn't allowing the purchase due to Visa having strict International Fraud policies.

I contacted my bank and was told it was true. I couldn't use any credit/debit cards my bank offered because they set up this policy with the companies that provided the credit. After contacting some of the major banks, I was told the same thing. "We do not allow the direct transfer of funds from US to EU due to overwhelming cases of bank fraud we've had to investigate from EU businesses."

Another company that also disallowes this type of purchase: PayPal.

It's why I had to stop playing on my EU account. You can use PayPal in the US for a US purchase/subscription and you can PayPal in EU for a EU purchase/subscription, but they do not allow a US to EU purchase//subscription. I've had numerous emails with them as well and the same reasoning was given.

I hate to say it, but due to the geographic location of your friend, she won't be able to continue to subscribe to EU NCsoft products let alone purchase a booster/upgrade. She could always buy an EU timecard, but compared to the US timecards, she'd be spending more for the card and shipping.

Have her contact her bank because I'm sure she'll get the same story from them.
  4. So, I think I might have figured out my problem. I always update my NVidia Drivers. Heck, I even install beta drivers in the hopes that they will work better.

Turn out, with the latest Nvidia drivers for the GeForce 260M series, my laptop was overheating and causing my problems. (Well, at least that's what it seems to have been.)

With the latest drivers, when I played CoH I wound up using around 88% of my CPU and the memory used to run the game was about 2 gigs.

I decided that my last hope would be to roll back the drivers. So I went and rolled them back a year to the 195.62 64bit drivers. Well, guess what?

No overheating! CoH now runs (with the year old drivers) on MAX Ultra Mode settings and does not use more than 900,000k of my memory. And I have not seemed to lose anything in the process. Well, except the hassle of my laptop sputtering out tons of lag from overheating.

The graphics/video quality is excellent and I've even been able to open two copies of the game and it still uses less resources than having one copy open with the latest video drivers.

So, for anyone else that's been having issues with their laptop with overheating or serious lag, try rolling back your drivers. It's not always a solution, but it can be the start of one.

Yeah, that's how it's set up. I just wanted to double check and see if my thought process was off. Thank ya kindly.
  6. So I decided today, that after a full year of using nothing but my Asus G72GX, to bridge my PC to my laptop.

The two reasons I've been using nothing but the laptop are 1.) wireless internet without having to buy a wireless card for my PC (since it's built into the laptop) and 2.) better graphic card with dual processors on the laptop.

So, I just bridged my PC to my Laptop and it's sharing the wireless internet connection from the Laptop. Now, my PC is goign through the process of over a years worth of Windows Updates

Since my wireless internet is secured via a Wireless Lynksys router, I assume the the bridged internet connection remains secured since the PC gets its internet from the Laptop and the Laptop is keyed into the wireless secured network from the Lynksys router?

I've never bridged a connection between a secured wireless network before. Think I should be okay? Any tips or precautions?
  7. I haven't read all the posts in this thread, so forgive me if I'm retelling what others have said:

"Caprica" wasn't originally designed around the Battlestar Galactica plot. The pilot script was a generic "cyborg takes over the world after humans give it the ability to think" kind of deal. The writer brought the script to a producer at SyFy and the producer figured that, since BSG was winding down and that they were already looking for a sequel/prequel to it, they gave the script to the BSG producers and a deal was made.

Basically, "Caprica" was an entirely different show that's original plot was reworked to feature Cylons. They went into the script, pulled certain items and then filled in the blanks so that it would fit the story of BSG.

Now, I'm not thrilled at the cancellation but I'm not surprised. The plot, to me, didn't work with BSG. It felt like they had a drama that they HAD to throw some action in to appease the BSG fanbase. Week after week, there was more and more that seemed too far-fetched, even for SciFi standards.

I don't know much about the next Cylon prequel, but I'm hoping that it's done by fans of BSG or at least the plot was specifically designed AROUND what we saw in BSG.

  9. I'm thinking about starting another subscription (just don't have enough character slots on 2 accounts :P.) I figure, if I'm going to buy a new copy of the game and start another subscription, why not get a free month out of it, from the Refer a Friend program.

For anyone else that's used the RaF program:

Do you only get the free month if your "friend" buys a full version and uses the free 30 days as part of the RaF rules? Or does your "friend" have to buy the game, wait out the 30 free days then pay for the next 30 days before the Free Month beings for the referrer?

Basically, will it take 60 days before the Free Month is added to my main account?

Oh, don't get me wrong. I've got at least 100 binds set, at least 50 are for my pets. (Yes, I have individual commands for each pet.) I'm mostly asking about aesthetics. The only buttons I use for pets are the macros I made for Dismissing as well as some random emotes.

I'm just amazed that there are so many powers and pet commands and not that many options for them without having to make binds.

When I was a noob at MM's, 5 years ago, I was the type of person that only used the assoicated buttons available in the power window. Seeing that newer players, and people just getting into MM's, might not have the knowledge of setting binds, players might be dissapointed seeing what's offered in dev created controls since there are only three pet commands in the power window

I know when I first made my MM, I was dissapointed and after a few weeks I was considering deleting the alt until I accidentally happened upong a bind guide.

Yeah. I find it interesting that the pet commands buttons aren't considered powers, just macro buttons with a special graphic. I can place the Aggressive Icon in the tray and edit the command from "petcom_all Aggressive" to "petcom_all dismiss".

It makes me wonder why we don't have more editable macro buttons like the Aggressive, Defensive, Passive, and Architect Comlink accolade buttons. That or allow us to make a macro and choose an ingame icon to use as the button graphic.

Guess I'll have to stick with my Aggressive button edited to Dismiss or just keep using the blahhhh grey macro buttons.
  12. The Dismiss and Go To buttons are the only ones not draggable. Since you can't drag buttons from the Pet drop down, and can only drag currently selected/active pet commands, Go To and Dismiss are not able to be set as active.

Go To, once selected, only shows the Go To rings where your mouse is pointed, but the commands that are active don't show the Go To Command. Same with Dismiss. You can't select it to be the active command because, once selected, it dimisses the pets causing the commands in the window to despawn along with the pets. :/
  13. As someone that's been playing a Poison/Merc MM for the past 5 years, I've become sickened with all of my grey macro buttons. Now, I know it can't be helped but just seeing a "blah" grey button with white text makes be think that there is so much missing in customization, especially now with Ultra Mode's HUGE graphical update.

That aside, I know when I've got my pet window open, I can see 5 icons: Attack My Target , Go To , Follow Me , Stay , and Dismiss . However, in the Powers Window, under Basic Pet Commands, the only icons that can be placed in the powers tray are Attack My Target, Follow Me, and Heel.

I've never understood why Dismiss (since it's a major command) or Go To are not available as icons to drag into the power trays. I've either got them set up as macros or keybinds.

My question: has anyone found a slash command to place the actual Dismiss or Go To Power Icons in a tray so that we don't have to use a generic macro button?

I'm surprised that there isn't more personalized customization when it comes to setting up powers with the button icon of your choosing.

Anyway, has anyone found any other tips and tricks when it comes to adding buttons/powers to the tray that aren't selectable from the Powers Window?
  14. Actually, my alts are aware of me. We usually take turns alternating who controls who. One week I control them; the next they control me.

It would explain why I have this spork stuck in my head. :/
  15. Ok, so when I make female alts, I tend to make them more "streamlined" for combat. I tend to think that if this were real life and there was a real female superhero, that "bigger" woudl only get in the way.

Although, I made one alt a few years ago and I used to play her a lot. Then my girlfriend, and her friend, told me to make the chest bigger because the alt would look more "attractive." Well, I did. I don't think I've played that alt more than 5 times since I "upgraded" her. :/
  16. Ahh, I assume she said "gold seller" which would refer to anyone purchasing from an RMT (Real Money Trade), or having their account hacked and stolen by an RMT company that could have logged into the account to see if the username/password combo was valid.

According to a bunch of sites that deal with anti-RMT, RMT companies will access an account, see if it's valid, and hold onto the login info so that they can gather names of people and spam the heck out of everyone all at once.

If NCsoft saw that a known/flagged IP of a gold seller logged into your master account/game account, they could have locked your account to be on the safe side.

Glad you got your account back. But, to be on the safe side, log into all of your alts (for each NCsoft game you subscribe to) and be sure that you still have all of your influence/infamy and if you have any games that deal with amor and weapons (like Aion/GW) be sure that those alts still have everything you applied to them. Gold Sellers that steal Aion-type accounts will strip you of all armor and weapons and sell it to a vendor to get as much "gold" as they can, then mail it to one of their own accounts to then resell.

    Once again, glad your back!
  17. Captain_Valor_NA,

Do you, by chance, have an Aion subscription? Or particpicated in any Aion beta testing?

The Aion CS team has been known to disable any accounts that they think may, at one time, have been either hacked or used an RMT service. Yes, it does also affect CoH as well as other NCsoft games.

{GM_spam}, over at the Aion forums, has stated that the AION support staff has a zero tolerance policy and blocks/perma-bans accounts without sending a message to the account holder about the ban or the reasoning behind the ban

The reason: if the account was compromised in any way (like a RMT company gaining access to your master account), then they have no way to be sure that the owner information through the Master Account is valid. That they assume that the actual account holder/owner will contact NCsoft Customer Support to reclaim their account... which they always return once valid proof is given (such as a serial number used to create a game subscription on the account.)

They said that doing it this way, although difficult, is the only accurate way they can get the account owner to validate they actually own the account, since an RMT'er won't dispute the blocked account and won't care if access is restored.

So, yes, your best bet is to contact Customer Support even if you only have a CoH subscription, since most of the time the bans are based on multiple IP's used to access an account.

I thought better of it after I posted. Even if it is true, I find work to be a personal thing and felt weird disclosing someone else's, even from a publicly-available site.
Well, I do agree that personal information should be withheld, but if it's something he was comfortable personally updating on a website viewed by millions...

The reason I posted this was because, no matter what information is presented to people (regarding this thread and topic), people will jump to conclusions before there is any proof and start rumors that others see as gold. The reason I even noticed this thread was because of conversation in a global channel of people talking that "coh is going free-2-play because the competition is.)

Sure, it's people getting information from other players but it eventually snowballs into "truth."

Just because we see something, and we want to/not believe it, it doesn't make it any more true/false. That's what I was getting at.

    Yeah, about that...

The thing I don't get is that players jumped on a hunch about the layoffs and assumed that certain people were booted or shown the door with or without merit. Sure, it may have been that way or it may have been coincidence. We'll never know.

But, last I heard (and saw), he's now working as the Lead Animator for the competition.

    Just sayin...
  22. Ahh, yes, I'm also one that lists them, top to bottom, based on level. Since I have more 50's than lowbies, they are all listed from top to bottom based on which I play more often.
  23. Set up each of your rows of character slots to house villain-only, hero-only, and Vigilante/Rogue-only characters?

When Going Rogue was released, I originally had my first row of character slots for Villains/Rogues, second row for Heroes/Vigilantes, and third row for Praetorians. But, I've noticed I have more full-time Vigilantes/Rogues that I dedicated an entire character row to them. Of course, Praetorians fit into my Vigilante/Rogue row until they hit level 20 and I decide on which path they take.

So, anyone else as crazy as me?
