    Am I missing something?

PS: your normaly buy those from SC vendor.
    Venom Grande?

Sounds like a rattlesnake dish at a Mexican restaurant.
  2. Hmmm.

I guess my main reflects me more than I thought he did.

My main is a Claws/Regen scrapper. I'm a little ADHD and often jump into things before fully assessing the situation, at which point I scramble to do some damage control.

My other main is a Sonic/Devices blaster. I'm a heavy metal guitarist, so I'm fond of loud noise and the gadgets used to make it. Playstyle wise with that character I tend toward slow, methodical handling of situations, taking out one target at a time. I do that in real life when I manage to focus my energy on one thing for any length of time.

Pretty much all of my characters reflect an aspect of my personality. No matter how off the wall it may be there is something in each character that mirrors something about me. I'm not going to go into all 24 characters I regularly play.
  3. The "pick mission, abandon, re-pick mission" takes about as long as refreshing the missions would.

Seems to me like a dev read this suggestion, and that was the solution we were given.
  4. Hmmm.

No one ever DID answer my question I posed earlier in the thread.

What do you do when you go through ALL of that stuff to start over at level 1 with all your badges.....and then you feel like playing the OLD character?

I mean, think about it, obviously you enjoy playing that character...if you didn't you probably wouldn't have collected all that crap on it in the first place. Chances are you would jump through all the hoops required to start over and a couple days later you'd want to play your old standby character...except now you CAN'T, because it doesn't exist anymore.

And then there's the problem already mentioned. What do you do with an entire character's worth of level 50 IOs that you won't be able to use for another 46 levels? It's doubtful you will get to just hang on to all of them.....more likely you'd go through all of this and then *POOF* several billion inf worth of IOs....gone.

And the point that we don't know how important AT, powersets, and origin are to how the character is filed within the server. I can see a bug happening where the computer looks for BlasterGuy to log in....only the server is looking for a level 50 Fire/Fire blaster, and BlasterGuy is now a level 1 katana/WP scrapper. Your character, including all the stuff you were so desperate to keep, just got eaten by the server....and you can't get it back because the OLD character was deleted when you switched stuff around.

There's a lot of stuff you're glossing over or just flat out ignoring here.

Someone or another actually mathmatically proved a while back that a high recharge Fire/Fire dominator has the highest possible DPS in the game (in ideal conditions of course)

He was in the 350+ DPS range.

Doms got buffed a while back. The damage boost was removed from Domination and damage from your secondary was boosted. So now you get close to what you could get while Domination was up all the time. Perma-Domination is no longer necessary to deal good damage on a dominator.

As to the rest of your rant, the devs have a reimbursement formula built into the respec feature that pays a fair amount for any enhancements over the 10 you can pull off of a build that aren't slotted. Unassigned origin (SO, DO, TO) enhancements are sold for their full purchase cost. Invention Enhancements are sold for the crafting cost. It isn't the devs fault if player "A" is stupid enough to go to the market and pay player "B" far too much for an item he didn't really need to play the game.

    Pretty much this.

Also, when you slot an enhancement you get a pop-up (provided you didn't disable it) that tells you "This enhancement will be permanently locked into this power. Do you wish to proceed?" (or something to that effect)

The game itself TELLS you that you can't take enhancements out of powers once they are slotted. The devs have said on several occasions that allowing 10 to be saved is being generous, and that they don't feel you should be allowed to pull them out at will.

They have shown NO signs of changing their mind on this, and I highly doubt they ever will.

    The Respec Trial

The problem you would run into here is, what about the teams of people who are running the trial because they need to fix unintentionally gimped characters?

If it were made faster spawning or stronger foes, suddenly you would have the problem of people who really NEED a respec being unable to complete it.

Look at it this way: If you're ripping through the reactor room at such a speed that you stand around bored between spawns.....you probably don't actually need a respec that bad.

  9. There's a very good chance that anything like this they did would

    A) Not be as good as dedicated program for music would be

    -and-

    B) Open up a hole in their security. Think about it, if you were downloading your OWN music into the game to be used in an in-game music player, there would be nothing stopping a talented hacker from getting in there and mucking about with program files. Currently, there is no real way into the game's base programming because we can't upload anything from our computers into the game. I'm sure especially good hackers can still get in, but why make that any easier? Especially in a feature that is completely unnecessary.

Well, power customization was a case of "We'd like to do this, but it's too difficult because we don't have the manpower"

That changed when they DID have the manpower to do it.

I don't recall ever having seen a dev outright say "NO" to the email idea, so from my perspective there isn't any evidence that they were ever against it in the first place. They just didn't do it for a long time, so I can only assume there were coding issues preventing it that they have since solved.

The full respec I think is a bad idea for my OWN reasons. The fact that the devs happen to agree with my stance is pure coincidence. If you could respec powersets or entire ATs you could start as something easy to level and switch to a late-blooming set later on when you reach an appropriate level. (like leveling a Willpower tank and switching to Stone after you get access to Granite Armor, or leveling as a Katana/Willpower scrapper and switching to Electric/Shield at 50 so you can farm with it)

As far as enhancements go, they have always been intended to be permanent. The only reason I would ever completely strip a character is if I intended to delete it, in which case I wouldn't care that I had to burn multiple respecs to do it. It's not like I can transfer those respecs to another character anyway.

The devs haven't done anything to prevent us from stripping a character, it just takes a lot of work and multiple respecs to do it. They don't seem to see any reason to make something we can already do any easier on us, especially since they never really intended us to be doing it in the first place.

As far as any of us is aware, they haven't changed their stance that 10 enhancements is the most we will ever be allowed to retain from a respec, and I don't see any compelling reason why they should.
  11. Archery can fire a Boost Range enhanced Rain of Arrows around a corner.

    'Nuff said.

Ice can do the same with Blizzard, but it doesn't have a snipe, where Archery does. Also, Archery's tier 3 heavy hitting blast both comes earlier than most ad has a full 80' range.

Archery/Energy is the set that is the absolute best at what you say you want to do: Extreme long range fighting.
  12. Devices has a place in the game exactly as it is now. Yes, a couple of the powers suck, but that just leaves you room to take other powers instead.

A number of people like Devices precisely because there is no other blaster secondary even remotely similar to it.

I don't really have a major problem with any of the changes you suggest here, but it really seems like you're trying to make Devices more like the other 5 secondaries, and I'm not convinced that's a good thing.
  13. Out of the builds you listed, Elec/Dev blaster, Spines/Invuln, and Ill/Storm are probably your most viable. Out of the tanks, I'd say Elec/SS will probably be your best bet. Good resists and SS has a ranged attack.

AR is laughably bad in PvP.
I have no experience with Rad in PvP, but from what PvE experience I have it probably won't be that great.

For scrappers, /Regen is pretty much the best secondary for PvP. Primary is up to you, but I'd go Spines. If you're dead set against using /Regen, Invuln is WAY better than Dark Armor.

For controllers, consider Mind/Storm, or Mind/Thermal. It has a confuse as well, and it's ST Sleep and Hold actually do decent damage.
  14. 500-600 million should get you the vast majority of that build.

Personally, I'd drop Melt Armor in favor of Fire Blast.

You're not going to have huge amounts of recharge there, so the extra ST attack will help smooth out your single target chain, and Melt Armor is, from all reports, pretty bad for scrappers.
  15. Dark Armor is HORRIBLE in PvP. It does well against squishies IF you can manage to hit them with Oppressive Gloom, but against another melee toon it gets destroyed. I speak from experience on this one, I have a BS/DA scrapper at 50 and heavily IOed. I might as well not even have a secondary.

If you're having trouble with stalkers on your current toons, rolling any of the things you mentioned isn't going to help.

My own ma/da IO build is quite expensive (maybe 500 mil) and that was done a looong time ago and prices have only risen in comparision since then.

Maybe I should check out that build on the cheap your suggesting for my own kat/da im working up (lvl 41 now, soo close to PP and hopefully managable end consumption).

Here ya go. I didn't use any Kinetic Combats at all, since I was focusing on positional defense rather than typed. I got my Theft of Essence proc as a drop, so I really have no idea how much it costs.

All of the expensive IOs (Numina's, LotGs, etc.) came as drops, so I managed to keep my price down. All in all, it was probably 350-400 million total, which IS cheap for a build with that kind of performance, it holds it's own well alongside multi-billion influence builds.

I carry a bunch of "break frees", but unless I use one BEFORE I think I MIGHT get stunned, they're no good for keeping DN up. I also try not to stand next to Freak tanks. But is there any sort of protection -- for a Dark/DP soloist -- similar to the KB protection you can get from a few different enhancements? Again, stun resistance is no good because the DN still goes down and I still get squashed with Mr. Tank's second blow.

I have a suspicion the answer is "eat a break free when you can't afford to get stunned, and otherwise just suck it up," but I figure it's worth asking, and I appreciate any insight people have. Thanks!
You have a mez power in your primary, and one in your secondary. The only thing you can really do is stack them and mez your enemy before they mez you.

The Dual Pistols mez (Suppressive Fire) is listed as a stun, but if you switch your ammo type it becomes a hold, and will stack with Petrifying Gaze from your primary. 2 holds will mez a Freak Tank, and while he's mezzed he isn't mezzing you.

You can build a damn good one on a very limited budget. I started a thread on it a while back, and it has since (with other people's input as well) become more or less a guide to softcapping a Sword/DA scrapper on a budget.

It has drawbacks, but is overall a very solid combination. Werner's is MUCH more survivable than mine, but mine is maybe 1/10th the cost.
  19. The secon you typed the word "scrapper" you answered your own question.

It really doesn't matter what powersets. Unlike most ATs, you can build just about any type of scrapper you can think of and it will be a death-machine.

It has a very reliable -fly aspect to it. If you're hoverblasting on a non-devices blaster wouldn't something to knock other flyers out of the air be useful? The whole point of hoverblasting is to stay out of melee, and flying enemies can still enter melee with you. Air Superiority puts them on the ground in a hurry.

    Quote:
If you want to increase your character's survivability, you are forced to choose an inferior melee attack?
Depends on what AT is taking it. For a scrapper, tank, brute, stalker, dominator, or blaster it's an inferior melee attack. For a Controller or defender it's better than Brawl. Also, they deal Containment damage for Controllers, my Fire/Kin has Boxing and actually USES it to help kill bosses.

Besides, it's the Fighting pool, not the Duck and Cover pool. Having attacks in it makes sense.

    Quote:
Don't even get me started on the worst pool of them all: Fitness.
What's wrong with Fitness? The powers are perfectly thematic. If you're physically fit, you can run faster and jump higher. My Claws/Regen used to have Swift, Hurdle, and Health, and skipped Stamina because I didn't need it.

They can't make every single power in the game ZOMGAWESOME!!! Sometimes you need to take some less desireable powers to get to what you want.

And if powers should all be mechanically connected, just look at the names of the pools.

Fighting implies that it gives you the ability to fight. It'd be kind of stupid if all you could do was dodge stuff, kinda need to be able to throw a punch or kick, or you're not actually fighting.

Fitness implies that you are in good shape and healthy. How does running faster and jumping higher NOT fit with that theme?
  21. Surprised Werner hasn't chimed in yet.

I'll say what he's gonna say

Sword/DA scrapper. Either Katana or Broadsword.

Mine is sitting at 41% to ranged and AoE (ws softcapped before the BotZ change) and hits 59% or so to melee with double stacked Parry. Add that to the resists and massive heal and you have a very difficult to kill scrapper.
  22. So....you're saying have BaBs make a new animation for every single power combination that could possibly ever exist in the game?

That's what it sounds like to me. Do you have ANY idea at all how much work that would be? Seriously, the animation department would quit en masse if you handed them this project.

Math fails me at the moment, but what you're asking for would entail some 30,000 animations at least, if you wanted the ability to take any power and combine it with any other power.

One powerset is 54 distinct animations. That's just ONE powerset, nine powers, 54 animations. And you want the ability to combine any one of those powers, of YOUR choice, with any other power? It's physically impossible for our animation department to do. Especially since new powers are coming out all the time, and you'd have to go through the whole process all over again.

Hence the "Solar" system. If our sun were Betelgeuse we'd learn about the Betelgeusean system in school instead.

Any time you see the word "solar" used, it is simply referring to our sun by it's name. You wouldn't get solar radiation from Sirius or Alpha Centauri....because those particular stars aren't named Sol. You'd get Alpha Centaurian radiation, or perhaps some Sirius radiation instead.

My point was that linking to posts where you say the exact same thing as in the post you're linking from is really kind of pointless, and somewhat arrogant.

+tohit is a multiplier where +acc is an addition
Actually, if you want to be technical about it, they're BOTH additions. The difference is in exactly what it is they are adding.

+ToHit is a flat addition to your base accuracy. So, if you are at 75% with an attack an have a Kismet +Acc equipped your to-hit will be 81%.

+Accuracy is the addition of a percentage to your base accuracy. So, if your to hit is at 75% and you have a 10% accuracy bonus your to-hit with that attack is 82.5% (because 10% of 75% is 7.5%, and 75% + 7.5% = 82.5%)

What makes +To-hit more valuable than +Acc is the fact that it adds directly to your base chance to hit.

Using the previous examples: 75% + 6% to-hit = 81% to-hit. Now, if you have a 10% accuracy bonus on top of that your total chance to hit becomes 89.1%. This is because your accuracy bonus is applied as a percentage of the new value of 81% instead of the base 75%.
