Quote:And please, do not tell me just to suck it up and PvP in RV. Just because I'm not into your pre-pubescent vulgar remarks during and after ganks, doesn't mean I'm any less of a player. I pay monthly just like you do, and I'll play how I want thank you.
Pinnacle's RV is actually a pretty easygoing zone on the occasions it's not dead.
I'm guessing you play somewhere else. That's a large part of why I play on Pinnacle. There ARE PvPers who aren't immature jerkwads, just the ones that are tend to be more vocal. -
Quote:Your perma Hasten is causing a lot of Hasten crashes, that's probably taking a toll on your blue bar as well.get the Performance Shifter Proc.
Got this.
Slot for Endurance Discount in your big costers.
Done this quite alot, although i think the issue if the high recharge
Slot for more Recovery Bonus or more Max End.
Slotted at the moment for +35% recovery, everything else is very tight to get perma hasten
The Dark Mastery Power Pool has a +End power, but its a long recharge.
Sorry shoulda said, I'm a troller
The Electric Master Power Pool has a (imo) better +end power
and the Power Mastery Pool has Conserve Power.
Could swap out Psi Epic for Fire and take consume... -
Quote:LOL8 team members hitting the guy all at once with concentrated fire because all the trash minions and lts are already dead will kill him much faster than a stalker.
When I team with my stalker.....the boss dies before the minions and LTs do, so the concentrated fire never happens. Seriously, BU+AS - Placate - Midnight Grasp - Siphon Life = 90% of the time a dead boss. And it takes maybe 6 seconds.
And I was referring to any single character, not a full team. No single character in the game can kill a boss faster than a stalker. Even my brute, who is a beast, takes longer to kill them, even with a full fury bar. -
Quote:It's not THAT old, and it was revived by a relevant question rather than by someone reviving it just to revive an old thread. There's a difference.why is that necessarily a bad thing. It's not like people don't ask the same things at different times, it may help someone else.
Now, I am the one that should be apologizing, by posting in a necro'd thread as a troll and all.
In answer to the revival question:
Your build looks okay with a couple things I would DEFINITELY change.
You have the best self heal in the game in Dark Regeneration, so why are you slotting Siphon Life with a full set of Theft of Essence? You took your second most damaging attack and completely gimped it's damage output to make it a heal that PALES in comparison to Dark Regen. The only attack in Dark Melee that does more damage than Siphon Life is Midnight Grasp. Slot it as an ATTACK, the heal is just a nice bonus in it.
You slotted Death Shroud with a set that offers almost no end reduction at all, I swapped it for a full set of Multistrike instead, which gives you better end reduction and some more defense to melee and AoE. I get why you used Eradication, but I would not put that set or Obliteration in a toggle power because they are designed for quick recharge at the expense of end reduction, which makes them bad for toggle powers. With as end hungry as Dark Armor is, you really can't afford to give up end reduction in favor of recharge reduction that isn't going to be used in the first place. I get the set bonus consideration, but you should really think of what the power needs before you start thinking about what set bonuses you want. If you really want the Max End bonus from Eradication you can always frankenslot Death Shroud, pretty sure I did on my BS/DA.
I would also suggest not running Tactics and Assault full time, you'll find yourself sucking wind in a hurry if you do.
Here's my adjustments for you:

Dark Armor benefits more from defense than anything else.
That amount of recharge unfortunately isn't going to add as much to your survivability as you think it will. You'll be fine on defense in melee range, but any ranged attack that isn't lethal damage is going to cut right through you. Also, Dark Armor has ZERO defense debuff resistance, so unless you're planning on consistently triple stacking DA you're going to find your defense disappearing in a hurry in some situations (in other words, once a defense debuff hits you, they are going to KEEP hitting you until your defense is gone)
Also, take Gambler's Cut instead of Sting of the Wasp. It has better DPA, and activates a lot faster. It will actually increase your DPS to have a faster attack that deals slightly less damage over a slower attack that deals a little more. You can slot it exactly the same and get more mileage out of it than SotW.
Personally, I like the positional defense approach with Sword/DA (mine is Broadsword, so they're identical for slotting purposes).
You should be fine, but you're going to take a lot of hits from range and AoE. Good thing Dark Regen recharges in 10 seconds. -
What changes are needed to make stalkers an acceptable addition to a team?
That's easy. You don't need to change anything at all about the AT, just the mindset of those people who view it as useless. There's nothing actually wrong with stalkers, people just seem to think that you have to be able to slaughter dozens of enemies at once or you suck. Stalkers are single target specialists, and excel at hit and fade, then hit again playstyles. Unless you're farming I'm sure you can find a place for that on your team.
Nothing, and I do mean NOTHING in the game can kill an annoying boss faster than a stalker. It never takes mine more than 3-4 hits to kill one. (depending on resistances) -
They were designed specifically as a foil to those high end melee AT builds that make a mockery of most of the rest of the game. Even on SOs a high level scrapper or brute has very little that actually poses a threat to them....except Vanguard Sword and a couple other things (stupid KoA and their billion caltrops!)
They are that hard for melee characters very much intentionally, because it's only fair that there be something your softcapped Electric/Shield scrapper has trouble with. Can't expect to sleepwalk through the game all the time and be impossible to kill
-
Anything but Brawl or temp powers will crit. Boxing, Kick, Air SUperiority, Jump Kick, Flurry and any attacks in your Epic pool will all crit.
As noted above though, they all have a flat 5% chance that does not change based on enemy rank. -
Quote:I'll take OG as my lvl 49 power. Claws, what do you suggest I slot in it? An end reduction IO, or something more exotic?

I usually slap a Stupefy Acc/Stun in it. They're usually dirt cheap and easy to come by. The extra couple seconds on the stun helps it keep them stunned (if it misses one it might last until the next tick, depending on if the mob is stun resistant or not)
It's real cost is in HP. If you're in a crowd you'll find that Oppressive Gloom is doing more damage to you than your enemies a lot of the time. It is the only power I know of with a lower end cost than Combat Jumping, so I wouldn't even bother with end redux unless you're slotting for set bonuses and end redux is part of the set. Just make sure your passive regen is up to the task of taking 6-60 damage every 2 seconds. -
Quote:That's pretty solid actually. At 2206 you're only 200 HP below scrapper HP cap, and 700% is better than a lot of Regen's passive regeneration (granted, that is just with Integration running)Another quick question. Is 2206.855 Max HP and 700% Regen rate (with only one person in RttC range) acceptable? When RttC fully saturated Regen rate goes up to 1151%.
You could do better, but those totals are by no means gimped. -
Quote:Troy Hickman is a fairly successful comic book writer (fairly successful in that his work has actually been published), who also happens to be a City of Heroes player (he is the only person I know of who actually posts under his real name).
don't quite get the "Troy Hickman" thing myself though
As he has posted in this thread, you have been introduced to him.
The "Troy Hickman" thing is a running joke in which he is summoned by saying his name 3 times whenever something is mentioned relevant to something he has done. In this case, it was mentioned that the cafe should be named Common Grounds, which was the name of his series, which revolves around a coffee shop where heroes congregate during their downtime. He also wrote the Twilight's Son story arc in Ouroboros, which was originally a short run in the CoH comic book. I believe he was one of the AE arc Guest Authors as well.
Hope that clears up any confusion

Quote:This, for the most part.I think it's a matter of determining the playstyle of the team. There's a rather large faction in the game that thinks anything not done at the fastest speed possible is a waste of their time. There's a smaller, but still large faction that doesn't care how fast you go and even some that prefer slower to faster. It's only a personal observation, but the second group seems to be a lot better at communicating and adapting with each other while the first group seems to just assume that their playstyle is everyone's (always exceptions, of course). When you mix the two types together, it takes a lot of communication to get everyone on the same page, and often it just turns out they shouldn't be playing with each other.
I REALLY hate running a TF I have never done (mostly redside stuff at this point), and having the rest of the team decide that it's going to be a speed run. I don't necessarily want to run it slow, but I don't want to rush through it my first time running it either.
I do have one memorable story though. I was playing my main (a Claws/Regen scrapper) on a team in the 40s. The team consisted of myself, a defender (EMP/ignoredsecondary), a tank of some kind (WP or Invuln I think) and 4 frigging fire blasters. After the first few mobs I realized that the entire spawn was dying before I even got to hit anything (4 Fireballs hitting simultaneously will do that)
So, I break off on my own so I can actually stab a couple enemies....only to have the Emp defender TP me back and say "STAY WITH THE TEAM!" This happened a few more times, and I tried explaining that the fire blasters were killing everything before I even got to the spawn, and that having me stay with the team was rendering me useless. The defender said they didn't care, and that I was to stay with the team or I wasn't going to be on the team at all.
*Claws and Effect has quit the team*
In the middle of a mission, in the middle of a fight. I nevr bail from a team like that, but that defender just annoyed me too much to stick out the rest of the mission.
So, before complaining that a scrapper is running off on their own, consider the situation first. If the team is killing stuff so fast that the scrapper never gets to attack anything, they are probably getting frustrated and bored, and letting them go find stuff to fight is A) letting the scrapper feel like they're contributing, and B) actually the best use of that scrapper's abilities.
Forcing that scrapper to remain with the team when they never get to hit anything is both unfair for the scrapper, and slowing the team down because that person isn't getting the opportunity to contribute their share of damage. -
Quote:As far as I'm aware RttC is autohit.Ok so I've never really played any WP toons to a high level. However I'm leveling up two WP toons ATM and looking at Mids for build possibilities. So, I have a couple questions.
1) What is considered to be a "decent" accuracy rating for RttC? I'm not sure if it's auto-hit or not, but according to Mids it does have an accuracy rating. And since you can't slot accuracy directly in it, it's accuracy is dependant on global accuracy/+ToHit bonuses or if you wanna throw in one or two Lysosome Exposures in there.
Don't worry so much about your S/L defense.Quote:2) I'm conflicted a bit about the defence ratings I should be aiming for. I usually try to aim for capped S/L and 34% Nrg/Neg or slightly more on my scrappers (unless they're /SR or /SD of course). However, with a Dual Blades primary, its kinda hard to hit those values without seriously gimping the powers in terms of damage and accuracy since DB is an extremely power pick heavy set. There maybe a way to get that of course, something I might have missed, but I still would like my actual question answered. Would it be better to give up the softcap on S/L and go with 34% on S/L/E/N (and keep a small purple inspie popped)? Or would it be better to ignore N/E defence and keep the softcap on S/L? I know the vast majority of the attacks in the game have a smashing or lethal component in them.
Look at it this way. You resist over 50% of smashing and lethal damage. You resist maybe 5% of energy, negative, fire, and cold. To my line of thinking I get more return out of getting more defense to what I have less resistance to. Your smashing/lethal softcap means you will be taking almost no S/L damage at all most of the time, but you'll be eating almost the full strength of any E/N/F/C damage that gets through because you barely resist it at all. So I would try to get as much defense as possible to what I resist less, and not worry so much about defense to what I resist a lot of.
For WP characters I usually shoot for about 30% S/L defense and try to softcap E/N, for the above reason.
Put 4x Eradication in ALL your PBAoEs. Willpower doesn't benefit much from extra recharge, especially with a primary like Dual Blades that has longish animation times. You will get much more mileage out of increasing your E/N defense and Max HP than you will from 10% recharge (which is really the only useful thing you're getting from the Obliterations)Quote:3) This is what I'm looking at right now...any advice appreciated:
I like to fill out the last 2 slots of PBAoEs with 2x Scirocco's Dervish for the extra 10% regen on WP characters. -
Quote:Brutes don't get Katana, Spines, Martial Arts, Broadsword, or Regen. Here it is, guys... the big question. Has it been asked before? Probably. Has it been answered in full? Not that I know of. So, it's still on the table.
What advantages does a scrapper have over a brute? Brutes have about the same amount of HP and do more damage. On top of that, if we're imagining, say, a brute vs. scrapper PVP match, the brute will be building rage the whole time... and eventually out DPS the scrap. In PVE, the damage differences are huge, and the brutes have arguably better defenses.
Once Going Rogue hits, will Scrappers be obsolete? Should I delete my level 24 elec/*? Which ARE cuter, kittens or puppies?!?
If you want to play any of those things your only options are a scrapper or a stalker. -
Quote:Alas, my build-fu is not that strong. I could get most of the things you wanted, but not all of them.Well since it's gonna be my first 50 of either DB/* or */DA, I want it to be OK at the very least

I have no problem throwing purples in the build
I could almost get it, but either regen is low or Typhoon's Edge is not on the build plus the accuracy is a bit tough to get to... -
If you've got a tight build, go with Oppressive Gloom, especially if you're tight on slots as well.
Cloak of Fear needs to be at least 4 slotted to even be worth running with it's ridiculous end cost and horrible accuracy. Oppressive Gloom you can run effectively with just the default slot if you need to. (I have on my BS/DA AV soloer, that's how I know) -
Quote:I have a playing buddy who made a Dual Blades/Will scrapper.....and I like the "look" if nothing else of Dual Blades..
Just didnt know if it pairs well with Dark...(I dont have the time to level up multiple combos of power sets...need to try and get something that works well from the beginning).
Psssst.
There's a thread about that very combo just a few threads down from this one if you haven't seen it yet
-
Slot Cloak of Darkness better. If you're already at 30% melee slotting CoD will get you to more like 35%. Cloak of Darkness gives you the same amount of defense as Weave, and it doesn't suppress in combat (the stealth does, but the defense doesn't)
Slot Super Jump with Blessing of the Zephyr. Yes, it got nerfed, but it's still 1.5% to ranged and AoE for 3 slots, and it gives you more KB protection to boot. Since you have 3 slots in Super Jump already, I'm thinking you may have planned to and just forgot.
Slot Fire Sword Circle with Obliteration instead. You need AoE defense less than the other two, and AoEs generally tend to be less powerful attacks (GMs are an exception to that)
Definitely change the slotting of Dark Regeneration. I get that you're going for the defense bonus for Numina's Convalesence, but even with the full set slotted Dark Regen is still going to be sucking down 20 endurance or more every time you fire it. I slotted 5 Touch of the Nictus and the Theft of Essence +End proc in mine, but you can frankenslot it if you like for better performance. (I like the fact that I heal 812 HP from a single target, helps in AV fights)
You NEED the Theft of Essence +End proc in Dark Regen. If your build only had one IO in it, it should be that one. It is a 10% chance to give you 10 endurance each time you fire it.......and it checks for each target you hit. It will quite frequently GAIN you endurance when you use Dark Regen, rather than taking 1/3rd of your end bar.
That's about all I can see at the moment.
If you make the changes I suggested you should end up with melee defense around 38%, ranged between 30% and 35%, and your AoE will still be over 20%. And the Theft of Essence proc will go a long way toward solving your end problems, because Dark Regeneration is the biggest end hog in your build by a wide margin. -
Quote:The single sword sets (Katana and Broadsword) are the most idiot-proof. You can build some awsome characters with them on a fairly low budget.Ok...
Just to ask the final question.... (if we assume - as I do now that DA doesnt Suck but in fact rocks)..
Which primaries work best with DA (Claws, Kat, Dual Blades...??)
Anyone....
Dark Melee has some synergy, as it seems the 2 sets were designed to cover each other's weaknesses.
Claws' low end costs help offset the end consumption of DA, and it has good AoE.
Spines/Dark is the classic scrapper farming build for a reason. It has ridiculous amounts of AoE potential.
Those 5 tend to work the best, but any primary can be effective with it. -
Quote:Dechs has a ridiculously survivable tank.If you take the IOs one step further (a la Dechs Kaison), DA becomes a beast. Not surprisingly, that's what Arcanaville "predicted".
Werner, myself, and a few others have made AV soloing Sword/Dark builds. Fallen Valkyrja's build probably can as well, but they have never mentioned whether it actually has or not.
Desmodos knows more about the set than just about anyone else, and has made some stupid good builds with just about every primary possible.
The set has amazing potential, but you have to learn how it works first. Graystar seems to think he should be able to play it exactly the same as any other set and be fine. He's only saying it sucks because he lacks the patience to learn how to play it. -
Quote:I dunno 'bout that Iggy. Kind of a tall order there.Something I've been trying to get to...
...1800+ HP with all the accolades
...S/L defense at 45
...BF -> AV combo without gaps
...Typhoon's Edge included
...280%+ Regen
...CoF Included
...DR at 14 seconds recharge and 50%+ Heal with 1 foe
...Accuracy at cap against +4 (using 1x BF)
...Endless endurance with either CoF or Death Shroud on
Edit: ohhh no PvP IO's please as I am poor
Possible?
Please say yes
I'll see what I can come up with, but I'm making no promises.
Purples okay? -
Quote:Okay, I've heard enough.this
and fire spinz farmer this is not that dark is way below the line.
This is someone who thinks Fiery Aura is better than Dark Armor. Fiery Aura is easily the worst set available to any melee AT, and this clown thinks it blows DA away.
Sorry, I still think you don't have a clue about how the set actually works.
When you acquire one, feel free to come back and discuss it futher.
Dechs is right. DA has the most potential for awesome out of any of the resistance sets.
Nothing else in the game is capable of capping psionic resistance. Dark Armor is also the only melee AT armor set that includes fear protection. It also has a good amount of end drain resistance. It includes 2 auras that, between them, can shut down every minion that enters melee range with you (actually, Oppressive Gloom can do it alone). It's damage aura is one of the least resisted damage types in the game. It has a stealth power so you can ghost missions if you want. It has the BEST SELF HEAL IN THE GAME. It has decent resists, and some native defense to build off of (In Cloak of Darkness). No other set gives you that many different things to work with at once.
If you can't build a DA character that can survive at LEAST as well as a regen, then you don't understand how the set works in the first place.
The one thing I will agree with is that Dark Armor sucks in PvP. -
Quote:No.
Your assertion that a change to Elude would necessarily represent a tacit admission that IOs are necessary is unnecessarily extreme and absolutist.
What I was saying is:
If use of IOs making it redundant was the specific reason for a change to Elude, it would be saying that IOs are required to play the game.
I never said that any change to Elude for any reason would be saying that.
If they decided to add some resistance to Elude because SR lacks any significant resistance outside of the scaling resists, it would have nothing to do with IOs making it pointless, because it would benefit IO builds and SO builds equally.
If you're going to slam me for something I say, please be sure you understand what it is that is being said before doing so. -
That is the nicest I have ever seen you be to anyone, Umbral.
You feelin' okay? -
Quote:Well, there are a few things you said here that reveal you to be clueless.Ive made and tricked out 3 other scrappers and 4 tanks and for some reason i wanted to try dark armour.
Well now i know its terrible, worst scrapper i ever even tried.
No def, the effects are terrible and almost irrelevant on a +2. Team stealth really on a scrapper LOL base like 2.5, -tohit on one aura and its weak versoin, 8 pbaoes toggles and no dmg, Fear, well with fear im surprised its not even half of the spectral terror and this is a toggle too.
I sadly paired it with claws my mistake made it feel even more crappy.
-Deleted-
1) No def: This is completely untrue. Cloak of Darkness has the exact same amount of defense as Weave, and it doesn't suppress in combat.
2) Team stealth? Uh, no. It's a personal stealth only, and it gives you defense. It is NOT Shadow Fall like you seem to be thinking.
3) 8 PBAoEs toggles and no dmg: I'm not even entirely sure what you're saying here, but you seem to be saying there's no damage aura? Death Shroud is a damage aura, and a pretty good one at that.
4) Fear, well with fear i'm surprised it's not even half of the spectral terror and this is a toggle too: Of course it's not half of the spectral terror. Spectral Terror is a long recharge immobile pet, it gets a huge amount of fear duration and effectiveness because it is stuck wherever you put it. Cloak of Fear goes to wherever you are, and can be always on rather than spending a lot of time recharging.
I seriously doubt you even played this character to a high enough level to even make any kind of judgement on it. It seems like you played it to level 8 and based your opinion on the numbers Mid's showed you. With all the things you said about the set that were just dead wrong, it is quite clear that you don't even know enough about it to make any kind of statement about how good it is or isn't.
