Because you can solo in the game does not mean that everything in the game must be soloable by every character in the game. If someone refuses to ever team or ask for help for any reason, they need to accept that there are some things they will not be able to do on their own.

This particular encounter seems to be one that is designed for you to need help with.

I didn't have any major problem with it either, but I can see it being difficult for some defenders or controllers. (I haven't run my defender through it yet, so I'll find out first hand I guess)

OP: When you see the message that he is bifurcating, break off immediately and kill the bifurcation before it starts really healing him. If you wait too long and he gets more than one out you won't be able to kill him, but if you kill the bifurcation as soon as it spawns it should stop the regen before it brings his HP bar up too much. It's annoying, but very doable (I did it on a Claws/Regen scrapper, so your Claws/SR should have no problem)

You should have perma DP already. If you actually have this much recharge:

    [*]56.25% Enhancement(RechargeTime)
You only need 55% and 3 slotted Hasten to have perma DP. My Claws/Regen pulls it off with about 53% or so, so your 56.25% should be getting you there.

In order for it to be permanent, you have to click both DP and Hasten as soon as they come back up, but you should have the capability already.

If you don't actually have that much recharge already, then it may not be perma, but your build as posted here is definitely capable of it.
  3. Only one problem I see with your build there. By focusing on melee defense you are opening yourself up to large amounts of defense debuff. Since DA has no DDR at all, anything with a machine gun is going to strip your defense away pretty quickly, many things with machine guns will remove all of it.

If you focused more on S/L defense, you can at least avoid some of that machine gun fire and maintain your defense a little longer.

    Max HP bonus.

The 3 Eradication 3 Cleaving Blow would work too, but if he's not going to have perma Dull Pain he could use the extra HP.
  5. Couple things:

You REALLY want Spin, it's an awesome AoE.

You should slot Spin and Eviscerate with 4xEradication and 2xScirocco's for the E/N defense. Reason being, you resist the hell out of S/L damage, but don't resist E/N that much, so you should probably work on more defense to it.

    SR Brute...WTF?

    /bind <key> targetcustomnext Quartz

Set that up and whenever you press the key you set the bind to you will automatically target a Quartz.

I believe you can also use /bind <key> targetcustomnear Quartz to target the Quartz closest to you, but I haven't tried that one, so it's only a guess.

It can be done a lot easier than the above poster is saying.

It was determined for a Regen scrapper that, if you have Hasten 3 slotted with level 50 recharge IOs and 5 Doctored Wounds in Dull Pain, you can get Perma Dull Pain with 55% global recharge. Since the recharge times on all versions of Dull Pain are the same (and I believe all the Dull Pain clones are teh same as well), it should hold true for an Invuln scrapper, tank, or brute as well.

That is of course assuming that you click both powers the second they recharge. You won't have much overlap at all, but it can be done relatively easy.

On topic : I don't know if Inv/DB would make such a great AV soloer. I've ran the numbers on it (admittedly before Bruising) and came with about 110-120 DPS with BF->AV and all procs (purple damage procs + achilles heel + fury of the gladiator). Let's make a bold assumption and assume Bruising + Alpha Slot bumps this up to 140-150 DPS. Sounds enough, right? Except it's all lethal damage which is often resisted by AVs, so you're going to be looking at either 30+ minute fights or simply plain impossible to defeat AVs. I wouldn't settle for any less than 160 DPS on a lethal damage melee character, and being above 170-180 is much preferable IMHO.

On the other hand, I certainly wouldn't mind having such a character on my team. With three different res debuffs, one of them perma, while also having extremely strong defenses and aggro control, it looks like that combo has a lot to offer to teams.
My BS/DA scrapper can drop an AV, and he's barely breaking 120 DPS. I haven't actually crunched the numbers, but he has almost no recharge bonuses to speak of, which leaves him with gaps in his attack chain. I also have to keep Parry double stacked to maintain my softcap, so that doesn't help either. Werner once mentioned that his Kat/DA scrapper was doing about 150, and I know his deals more damage than mine, so 120 is a reasonable guess.

With a tank's superior base survivability you can put a little more focus on building for damage output and probably reach similar numbers. So, Invuln/DB can probably do it as well or better than other tanks simply due the the ability to slot one more debuff proc than other sets.

You're probably right. I may have confused the amount Tankers get from Weave with the amount Defenders get from maneuvers.

I've only had it send me back to the log in screen a couple times in all the switching I've done.

It's actually a nice feature for me because I do 95% of my playing on one server, and it puts you at character select on the server you logged out of.
  13. Depends on the individual set for me.

If the set is something like Kinetic Combat or Eradication I'll slot max level ones at 32 and 27 respectively. Since those particular sets cap at 35 and 30, there is no point in waiting until higher levels to slot them. And if I plan on slotting those sets I'll make sure I have at least 4 slots in the powers I plan on putting them in.

Any procs I want to slot will also be done as soon as I can afford them or I reach the minimum level for slotting them.

And if someone did say that they would be correct.....BUT.....when you are mezzed you lose any benefit from your toggle powers (except for mez protection toggles that also grant mez resistance). They changed that as a QoL feature so people didn't have to spend so much time re-toggling their powers, but the basic effect of being mezzed and losing your personal defenses remains.

If that SR scrapper gets mezzed through Practiced Brawler, say goodbye to 90% of his defense until that mez wears off. An SR scrapper that gets mezzed goes from nearly unhittable to sitting duck really fast.

Audacity, as in: They can auto-complete most of the arc, and come to the forums to bitterly complain that they have to actually run one mission out of it. You only HAVE to run ONE mission, and a bunch of people complain that having to run that one mission is unfair. I don't really see that as being much different than someone complaining that they have to actually play the game to have a level 50 character.

And we don't know that the choice you make in that mission won't have future ramifications, such as determining what contact you end up with for future Incarnate content.

As far as my opinion goes:

Do I like that a whole lot of people are getting a reward that I don't feel they've actually earned? No, not really.

Am I foolish enough to think the devs will, or should, change it just because I don't like it? No, not even a little.

I am very well aware of how many people removing the auto-complete option on that arc would piss off, so my dislike is really pretty irrelevant. Even if I did decide to make a big deal out of it and start making posts trying to convince people, I know how far that would get me, and it isn't worth wasting my (or anyone else's) time on.

In terms of things I like and dislike about the game, this is really pretty minor, and it would have remained that way if you hadn't decided to call me out for being spiteful and trying to spoil people's fun, simply because I mentioned that I didn't like something.

People play this game for different reasons. Some people want a white-knuckle hardcore challenge, and that's awesome. More power to 'em. Other folks just want to kick back, beat up some bad guys and collect some shinies without stressing out about it. And that's great too. Soloing the STF on +4/x8 doesn't make you a morally better person than someone who cruises through the game on -1/x1 and autocompletes any mission with an EB in it. The point here is to have fun, and as long as someone isn't breaking the EULA or interfering with your play, they're not doing anything "wrong".
You completely missed the point of my analogy there.

At work, I am rewarded for doing something by receiving a paycheck.

In the game, I am rewarded for doing something by receiving experience, influence, merits, recipes, salvage, shards, and now the Alpha slot.

Now, if I chose to go to work and do nothing at all, I probably wouldn't be getting a paycheck. But yet anyone who cares to can auto-complete the entire arc and get the reward that is supposed to be earned by playing through it.

Yes, one is the real world, and one is a video game, I am well aware of the distinction between the two. But getting something for doing nothing is getting something for doing nothing in either case.

In game terms, should you expect to stand around doing nothing and get drops, influence and experience? No, you have to defeat enemies to get those things. The same goes for the arc you unlock the Alpha slot in, you're supposed to get the slot for actually playing the arc, but you can auto-complete most of it and get through it without having to do more than a couple FedEx runs.

I suppose the thing that bothers me about it isn't that you can auto-complete the majority of it. The part that bothers me about it is the people that have the audacity to complain that they have to run ONE mission out of the arc because you can't auto-complete it. And you can't auto-complete it because it contains a choice the computer cannot make for you.

I don't want to spoil anyone's good time. I simply said I'd have rather the whole arc need to be actually PLAYED before you get the reward from it. And I'd rather it had been like that from the beginning. I do not think it should be changed to be that way after it has already been released.

What's done is done, and it should be left as it is.

    Quote:
"Right" in what way? Do you see this as a moral issue?
Yes and no. If I go to work and find a corner to go to sleep in, I have no right to expect to get paid for doing nothing. Consequences would include not getting paid or possibly losing my job.

I look at auto-completing an arc that gives you a tangible reward much the same way. Except in that case, people can do nothing at all and still collect their reward with no consequences.

    Quote:
Not all parts of the game are created equal, and not everyone enjoys the same things. Finding ways to minimize the time spent on the parts you find tedious or otherwise un-fun is pretty common. Is it wrong for me not to do the Outbreak Tutorial every time I roll a new alt?
No, nothing wrong with not doing Outbreak on every character, because Outbreak does not give any reward you can't get somewhere else just as easily. To me it just looks like another case of people wanting to get something for nothing.

I never said you weren't entitled to speak your opinion. I'm just trying to figure out what's so objectionable about an option that would enhance other people's enjoyment, while still allowing you to play exactly the way you want. Seems like a win/win to me.
Again, it is giving you a tangible reward that you are not earning when you auto-complete the whole thing. Even the hordes of Fire/Kin farmers are earning their rewards because they are actually running the missions they get them in.

I just have an issue with the trend towards more and more people feeling like they should be handed things without doing anything at all to earn them. Call me old fashioned if you like, but I don't think ANYONE is entitled to something just because they said "I deserve this, now give it to me."

My Rad/Sonic AV soloing defender would like to have a word with you about that. (for the record, once I solve his endurance issues he'll be soloing GMs too).

My Dark Miasma/Dual Pistols defender has a thing or two to say as well.

You act like just being a defender means you can't ever solo, and it just isn't true. Sure, my Dark and Rad defenders are among the better soloing sets, but if you're playing Empathy or Kinetics why are you so pressed about being able to solo them when they shine on a team?

If you can't effectively solo with a support character, the problem is with YOU, not the game. Myself and thousands of other people solo support characters all the time. Unless you think the people saying they solo fine are lying just to spite you, and I can assure you, I'm not lying about my ability to solo a defender.

And no, soloing does NOT mean running at x8. Soloing means running missions by yourself, the difficulty you are set at is completely irrelevant.

    Quote:
And no, scrappers are not tanks. if you want to tank, roll one. One of the nice things about COX is the bleedover between AT's. You can find exceptions for just about any role/rule. There are tools available that a scrapper can solo without mez protection, if he chooses to take them. It just wouldnt be a easy as it is now.
That's weird, my Broadsword/Shield scrapper tanks for small teams all the time. Sure, he's probably not going to be main-tanking an ITF or tanking Recluse on an STF, but he does just fine holding agro for 3-4 man teams. If he didn't have mez protection, that would be impossible for him to do.

Also, I brought it up before, but what about things like Tsoo Green Ink Men, who have 3 melee stun powers and spawn in groups of 8 to 10 in Talos. They can already stun a melee character through their mez protection. So, the answer is to force a scrapper to run in terror from those groups while a hovering support character can kill them all in perfect safety? (because Green Ink Men have zero ranged mezzing ability, their stuns are all melee range)

Scrappers hit things in melee range, and that is ALL they do. They cannot buff a teammate, or debuff the enemy, they do not have even close to the same amount of versatility that a support character can have. Various support powersets can do many different things, while scrapper powersets are nothing more than different flavors of hitting things.

I've said it before, and I suppose I'll say it one more time: When my scrapper has the same level of versatility as your support character, maybe then your support character can have the same level of self-sufficiency. If you have a support-heavy team, those scrappers that solo so well start to get less and less useful, especially the ones with mostly single target oriented sets like Dark Melee or Martial Arts.

What you are saying is that your defender needs to get the exact same soloing efficiency as a scrapper, without losing any of the team support versatility they are known for.

Scrappers are designed for solo efficiency because they lack any real team support ability. And you think they should lose that solo efficiency without gaining any additional team support ability.

But apparently the people telling you that is dumb are the ones being unreasonable.

    Right.

There seems to be quite a bit about game balance you don't understand here. Scrappers are self sufficient because they add very little to a team. Defenders are more team reliant because they can make that team nearly invincible. Thus, defenders should not be as self sufficient as scrappers until scrappers add more to a team. That is known as balance.

But nooooooo. Defenders should be able to solo just as well as a scrapper AND team better, because that's the only way it would be fair. I find it hard to believe that you don't realize how ridiculous that argument is.

The general consensus on the scrapper boards is that inspiration use is acceptable, but temp pets don't count. The truly hardcore do it no temps no inspirations, but soloing an AV is soloing an AV.

Saying I'm "determined" to spoil someone's good time would imply that I would go out of my way to campaign to make the arc non auto-completable. I have no intention of doing so, and in fact, I SAID that I had no intention of doing so right in the post you're quoting from, which you seem to have conveniently left out of what you quoted.

I simply said that I would have preferred it to be non auto-completable from the beginning. That does not mean I think it should be changed to be that way now.

I just don't think it's especially right for people to auto-complete the entire arc and get the alpha slot, while not actually having DONE anything. Why are people so obsessed with not doing something in a game that they are paying to play in the first place?
