Yup, that's exactly why level 10s go for so much more than you think they would.

    Question:

Did you level this brute as a Praetorian, or did he start out as a villain?

Because if he started as a villain and you moved him blueside after level 40, you are likely going to kick yourself when you realize that you could have done the arc before you crossed over....and would have saved yourself a weeks worth of tip mission running.

But I do realize that my present state of gaming is as a result of my choices, I am fully aware that the rest of the game is still out there.
We've had our differences in the past Stormy, but I just wanted to say I wish more people were aware of and accepting of the role their own decisions plays in how they game.

Far too many people are spouting such things as "The devs are FORCING us to do this!" and completely glossing over the fact that they made the choice to do it themselves.
  4. Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing this at some point.

I don't necessarily think it's important enough to be done RIGHT NOW. But it'd be cool to get eventually.

Sword options for Energy Melee, Fire Melee, Electric Melee, and Dark Melee would be nifty.

The only catch I see with it is the fact that all of those powers that don't already have a sword involved are part elemental and part smashing damage, and the devs are reluctant to give animations to powers that don't match their damage types. There was a request for kali sticks for Dual Blades that was shot down by a dev for that exact reason.

Other than that catch I don't really see a problem with it.
  5. This quote you made pretty much effectively killed your own argument:

    Quote:
However, with all this customization, and the ability to pick and choose as you wish, the complexity that this allows also creates a steep learning curve. So many options available means there are many combinations that can leave your character underperforming, weak, subpar, or at worst, almost unplayable. These kinds of combinations are where many new players can get caught up, not understanding exactly how the game's synergies work, and what is effective vs what is not.
Why would you want to introduce something to the game after 7 years that will be horribly abused by min/maxers AND make the game incredibly more complicated for new players at the same time? That quote was absolutely right about the new player experience in this game already. and that's WITHOUT there being hundreds of possible choices at any given power choosing level. Give people the ability to take any power they want and you are going to make the game nearly impossible for a new player to learn.

Gating it behind 3 years vet status is a horrible idea. Do you remember the $#^%storm over Veteran Rewards? A huge number of people immediately came to the forums and started screaming about how it isn't fair that vet players get things new players don't. Do you REALLY want to give veteran players something THIS game-changing and tell the new players they aren't allowed to have it? That will go over well, I'm sure.

And, you seem to be convinced that people are against you because they fear change and want to use their vet status and post count to shout you down. That isn't even CLOSE to what is happening. What IS happening is you posted a really, really BAD IDEA and people aren't being shy about telling you how bad an idea it really is. That's all.

Go ahead and feel persecuted if you like, it doesn't change the fact that freeform power selection is a horrible idea and is almost 100% guaranteed to NEVER happen.

Any suggestions to make this more group friendly?
Take Leadership if you don't already have it, and make sure you have all the AoEs.

There isn't really much more you can do to make a scrapper more group friendly. They are the most solo oriented AT pretty much by design. Leadership is about the only power pool that will benefit the rest of the team while not gimping your damage output somehow.

I suppose you could take and slot Aid Other, but trying to turn a scrapper into a healer just seems kinda dumb.

I can't look at the build because my work computer doesn't have Mids, but that's my input for what it's worth.

I meant to imply that, but let me state it clearly - I'm looking for things to do that will allow me to make some progress towards at least the Alpha slot, not just content to rerun for the love of the content. There's very little I haven't done multiple times now.
Well, in order to do that you need to run Mender Ramiel's arc at least, which you implied in your OP that you hadn't done yet.

Exemping anywhere other than AE will net you shards now, because they will drop at any level.

Other than that, I don't really have any suggestions that haven't already been put out there.

  11. Yeah, add a massively game-breaking feature that everone would want to use to, well, break the game.

And if THAT won't cause enough backlash, gate it behind real world time played.

    BRILLIANT!!!!

Are you TRYING to destroy the game? Or do you really still think this is a good idea?

Yes, I'm being derisive, because this really is that bat-guano stupid of an idea.

    It's been explained already.

You CHOSE to put Reactive on your character, knowing full well what effect a DoT would have on your sleep.

It is NOT something that was done without your knowledge or participation, and should not be excluded only from certain powers just so you can make a choice with no consequences.

Your choice: Slot Reactive and lose the efectiveness of your sleep -OR- Keep your sleep and lose the DoT.

What's next, you want to be able to attack that target without breaking the sleep too?

Could you get any MORE self-entitled?

Seriously, you have an option that CANNOT BE TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU, yet you refuse to use it because you want to get your own way.

Why do you expect that something you called a temp power in your own thread title should be available at all times? Temp is short for temporary, in case you forgot.

    Temporary:
    –adjective
    1.
lasting, existing, serving, or effective for a time only; not permanent: a temporary need; a temporary job.

Now, there is the definition of temporary. SHow me in that definition where it says that you should have something that is temporary permanently. Especially since part of the definition is "NOT PERMANENT".

You say you paid for that power, just like the people who paid for Ninja Run? People with Ninja Run paid $10 ON TOP of their normal subscription fee to get the power. Did you pay money above your normal subscription to get that temp power, or did you get it for free just like every other player who has one? (which is every single other person playing the game) No, you didn't? Well, then good luck on getting the devs to see things your way.

What I'm more curious about is how the hell you managed to build a 10 billion influence character that is made useless by the inability to use ONE power the way you want to.

I gave you a solution that is available to ANYONE who wants to light an Oil Slick as a Defender. Electric Fence and Shocking Bolt will both light it. But that isn't an option because you'd rather throw a tantrum about not getting your way.

I'm sorry, Veruca, but Mr. Wonka says you can't HAVE an Oompa-Loompa.

Go ahead and ragequit over not getting your way, I can pretty much guarantee you that neither the other players or the devs will give a crap. But if you do....you should change your name to The Departing Storm.

Gee, wouldn't it be Epic if there was some way you could have, oh, I don't know, like Electric powers on a defender?

Maybe if we Pool our resources we can figure out a way for you to light your slick without a temp power.

I mean, you act like you are Fenced into using the origin power and nothing BUT the origin power.

I suppose it isn't too Shocking that something like this would make you want to Bolt though.

Too bad there's no other option available to you besides the origin temp.

Isn't it great that the devs jump right on things when people say "Do what I say or I quit!"?

No, it's an inherent power, just like Sprint, Rest, Brawl, and now Fitness.

Disallow it and you'd have to take them away too.

    It's not wrong.

It's a choice you made. You chose to slot something that added a DoT effect to all your damage dealing powers, which by it's very nature will not be compatible with sleeps.

If something were introduced that ruined sleep powers regardless of any decision you yourself made, I would agree that it is wrong. Since YOU chose to slot that, knowing full well that you have a sleep power that will be ruined by it, I have no sympathy.

    Not really.

All the stuff that existed before threads existed....is still there to play.

Sure, you're not advancing your character very fast, but you weren't advancing it to any great degree by running the ITF for the thousandth time either.

You can convert shards into threads, so doing other things isn't completely stalling your progress either.

The way you are talking here, you're implying the devs actually took away the rest of the game and left us with only the two trials as 100% of our gameplay options. And that just isn't true.

Why is Atlas Park always the target?
It's probably game lore related. The citizens or Paragon City would probably be pretty demoralized if Atlas Park was taken over or destroyed.

In movies, New York City and Washington DC are typically targeted for the exact same reason. They are symbols of what the country stands for, and people get upset when their symbols are attacked.

In the game world, Atlas Park serves the same function, it is a symbol of what Paragon City stands for.

    Sure.

There will ALWAYS be people with level 50 characters that want to get Incarnate abilities on them.

Are you suggesting that a year from now no one will have a new level 50 to get Incarnate abilities on?

Or are you suggesting that the end game people have been waiting on for 7 years will fizzle out after a few months?

You seem convinced that the Incarnate trials are just a fad and people will stop doing them after a while. I emphatically disagree with that. I think there will always be people willing to run these, especially if it is set up in such a way that you need to run these 2 to unlock the 4 slots we got in I20.

    Umm, no.

Ninja Run is classified as an Inherent power, not a temp power. The origin temps actually are temp powers. Look at which heading they fall under in your powers window.

If they disallowed Ninja Run, they would also have to disallow: Sprint, Rest, Brawl, etc.

So, for the purposes of the trials, inherent powers are okay, temp powers are not. Which makes sense. I can't imagine Ninja Run would give the same kind of combat advantage as a Warburg nuke or Vanguard heavy.

    You should be fine.

Even though the to-hit of trial mobs is higher, normal softcap is still a significant amount of defense. Every trial I've been on has had enough random buffs flying around that even my Claws/Regen scrapper has been well over the trial softcap, and he started at 32.5% S/L defense. if you're already softcapped, you should be well over the trial softcap when fighting with the whole group, and normal softcap should be enough to keep you alive when you're not with the group.

The only brutes that are going to get beyond 50% or so without completely gimping the rest of the build are SR and Invuln.

It's one of the best DPA attacks for a tier 1 available to a scrapper if you want to avoid redraw. Could put Shadow Punch there as well I suppose.

I built that on the assumption that a Freeform would only be limited by level available, so Soul Drain and Build Up would be possible on a build using that as the only limitation. If it had to be one or the other, I'd put Dragon's Tail at level 26.
