Quote:Very important point there. I've also found that it's a good idea to close it, then reopen it and check to be sure the changes 'took'. If they haven't yet, close it again, run around the room and try once more. I don't know why, but sometimes it takes a minute or so so update to the newest version.Note that if you are currently running the arc, the version that you're running *won't* show any of the changes (you'll have to quit out and restart it). And, last I checked, once you've hit republish, close down the whole AE interface completely before you try to go back into the editor again. For some reason, if you start the editor a second time on a published arc without shutting down the interface, none of your edits for that second session will be saved.

Quote:http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Main_PageIs there a listing/database somewhere of the different mob groups you can use? I really hate CC (crowd control), so I want to try and stick to mob groups with as little of that as possible. The Infernal Demons (sometimes they are Praetorians in Harvey Maylor's arc) are a good example of this. Are there others like this?
Look them up, read their powers. Also, I think when you look at each separate foe in the group listing screen inside the MA interface, their powers are mentioned as well. -
I've had this problem and ended up recreating the entire custom group with a name change, which was, yes, a pain. Talestar's method sounds better, but still points out the failure of the interface we have.

Quote:I write MA arcs to tell the stories that occur to me, not so much for public recognition or to get plays (but of course that's always nice). I don't think that I could write for someone else; I tried it once with an arc challenge Smurphy had up and just couldn't muster enough care, and that was a situation where 'story didn't matter' to boot. Add in my slow pace and a question of how much 'payment' would make it worth my while ("That'll be a dozen LotG +Rech and 500 mill inf please") and it just doesn't seem worth it in my eyes..
But if you're one of these Architects, maybe you should ask yourself: is it really the public recognition you're craving here? Or do you just want to create stuff that gets played and enjoyed? I'm willing to bet it's the latter.
If so, maybe you should just give up banging your head against the thoroughly retarded design of AE's search UI and put your services out there as a Storyteller for SGs.
That said, might not be a bad idea for some others. -
The next packs will no doubt be in other areas, any sort of "silly pack 1 and silly pack 2" back-to-back (magic, tech, ninjas, etc.) would set these forums afire with hate from whatever players didn't care for pack 1.
That said, I'd love to see more animal stuff myself, I still can't get every single idea out that I want to. Then again, that's the way it goes, we've got a ton of options already as it is, for all sorts of things, plus it forces us to get creative. -
Looks like a frog about to sit on a plank?
Man... I don't even remember doing a security question when I joined up, I hope I can remember it if/when the time comes. :P
Edit: to test, I just went and logged into my account. My questions were about the street I grew up on (not really, but it's an easy one for me to remember) and my dad's middle name, which is easy to spell. I guess I got off lightly compaired to others. -
Sounds like the 'atomic' aura, but I'm guessing it's not that, right?
-
Oh hey, a play, thanks!
Yeah, this arc has always been known as 'troubled'. Originally constructed atop an indian burial ground in the late 1700s, it soon became infamous across the growing nation for the case of one Charles Watley who murdered his entire family inside of it and left the comment "Ye tyme of the devyl be upon uf!" in blood. The devs are still trying to figure out how he did that.
Seriously though. Many players had problems following the whole broken nature of the story telling I used and I've been back over it a number of times to clarify it as best I might. Seems it still needs some work on that too, based on what you say - so be sure and avoid my failures on your own arc.I do know that the escort option got added in to the MA options after I wrote it and I should try setting the third mish for that, so now you're giving me a good reason to finally get back to it. My play-time's so that I have been guilty of taking too long to update my arcs when new rules come into play and I think this is the last that needs a new look-at.
Quote:As you may have gathered, Rabbitual Criminal appeared in my two previous arcs which were light-hearted. At the time, I was having fun using him in every arc as a returning character, then I decided to write him out so to speak so I did so in this arc. I wanted the arc to address heroism and the story just came together for me with him in there. Anyways, he apparently didn't really throw you off too much, so it's all good I guess. The contact seems rather odd. The bunny thing seems like it's setting a tone much lighter than I was led to expect from the arc description. Maybe not though I'm intrigued.
Quote:If I was going to complain about this mission, I'd point out that a space is missing from between 'much' and 'a' in the second clue (which looks rather Spanish), and that the last clue suddenly shifts to a more formal narrative style.
Quote:Disconcertingly, the first security guards I encounter are not in the office building but in the tunnel. That I (or Rabbitual Criminal) just dug. Oh well, I don't suppose there' anything you can do about that.
Quote:Now it's unclear what I'm supposed to do, but looking at the map shows that several enemies have appear near the mission start. I'm guessing I'm supposed to try to escape and run into Dead 6 (currently Orange 6) on the way out. (You might want to make that clearer).
Quote:WHOA!! Ok I was not expecting that. ('Alright kid, this is where it gets complicated.') And I got clobbered. And there's no way I'm going to say what actually happened. Spoilers and all that. But I think the last time a game made me jump that hard was the first time I saw the Flood. This was one of the points people kept tripping over in earlier versions of the arc; I went back in and tried to clear it all up it and then didn't get any other plays until you came along. Looks like it worked!
Quote:There's an asterisk in the debrief that looks like it's supposed to refer to the editor's not (colored text) at the end, but there's not a corresponding asterisk there.
Quote:Mission 3: I do feel that the chronology could be a bit clearer. As far as I can tell, this takes place over just a few days, so perhaps just including the days of the week could make it clearer.
Quote:To get nit-picky, there are a few places where you used 'lead' when you meant 'led'. Also,You Capitalized Some Things Like Titles That Perhaps Should Have Been In Sentence Case.
Quote:This is completely irrelevant, but 'Going Through the Motions' from the Once More with Feeling soundtrack came up in my iTunes during this mission. Singing Council FTW ('She does pretty well with fiends from hell, but lately we can tell ').
He was designed to be fairly doable since this is a low level arc.
SO - to sum up, thanks for the plays and suggestions. One good thing to learn about writing a good AE arc (if I have any legs to stand on on that topic) is that strong, detailed feedback like this seriously helps you in refining your story. Take good notes on the suggestions (as I have here and with other reviews for all my arcs), consider them and decide if they're applicable or not then act on them if they are.
As you've been so kind to spend your time writing this up, I'll be playing your arc when you republish it and as soon as time allows me (tight schedule, little gaming time etc.) and I'll try to drop as detailed a review for you in the other thread. -

Quote:Not surprised as it's no longer the new shiney on the block.Now....raise your hand if you're not surprised about the complete and utter lack of AE improvements or additions in the i20 overview.
Won't be too surprised if nothing comes out in i20 as well.
Won't be surprised if there is some love for the MA system in i20 either; there's always new stuff they didn't drop hints about during the sneak-peaks. -

I was going to say I didn't have any red+black villains, but then I remembered my panda bear toon Princess YinYin who started as a character in my costume-award-winning arc Against The WickerWork Khan!* and then progressed to no less than three alts, a scrapper by the same name (villain), a stalker also by the same name, diff server (villain) and a blaster "Lone Panda And Cub"** (hero).
So I guess I lost right there, three times! Pairing red with her (usually the bolero) was just too easy I guess... I hang my head in shame.Maybe I didn't deserve that award after all.
*shameless plug of course, but required
**For extra points, guess what her 'shoulders' option is. -
I slotted one of these just the other day and was wondering about that.
Huh, I thought it was a robot looking up with red smoke coming from his head. -
Quote:I used to see it on redside Freedom a fair amount, back in the monkey days. I haven't seen much of it lately though. Come to think of it, the last time I saw anyone asking for pay to join a mish, they were running a mayhem. That was maybe a month ago.I've never seen or heard of anyone charge for farms redside.
I imagine those trying to get people to play are just hoping to siphon up some easy money from players who don't know any better. -
Seeing how I only saw one other poster here reflecting my state of game play, I'll toss in my answers here too.
How many level 50's are you attempting to 'become an incarnate'?
None so far. GR came out and I started up way too many toons. I've cut down the number a little though, and probably realistically only have three "mains" right now, although I'm also enjoying going back to my signature toon who's still only at 37th. Add in an AE arc I'm perpetually reworking before I release it and... none. I only have 2 50s anyways.
Do you feel that doing more than say one hero and one villain is doing 'too much at once'?
It would be for me, but I also factor in the limited playtime I have.
Do you feel a shift has occurred to more time devoted soley to level 50's leaving far less time to level an alt?
Probably for some, sure.
Do you feel this is a good thing?
Not up to me to say, it's up to the affected players. Besides, I already don't have enough time for all of my alts. :/
Do you seem to not have enough time to devote to alt characters because you feel you need to be collecting shards and such?
Doesn't apply to me.
Do you think changing the Weekly Task Force to a Bi-montly Task Force would be 'better'? Perhaps offering a more relaxed atmosphere for the playerbase?
Hm, maybe? Depends on the player in question again I suppose.
Am I just nuts?
Not for me to say, it's up to the affected players - meaning those around you! -
Even though you found your answer, I think this is still a good topic.
I would imagine that the number of foes is only limited by space, so a single mish arc could have gajillions... give or take. That's something I've been thinking about doing for fun.
-
Quote:Something here isn't adding up.I love stalkers, I generally finish my tip missions for the day in 20-30m. They are horrid to level... Stalkers take down everything Boss or lower solo faster than any other AT... Stalkers are the best solo AT out there. Unfortunately they have limits... but also for leveling in general.

I think one of those sites was the one I looked at way back when, yeah. Kind of a shame to lose/forget about such a possibly useful resource for the game! Then again, I suppose if it was really useful, it wouldn't have been forgotten... at any rate, hopefully AA can find something useful there.
-
I seem to recall in the early days of AE someone set up such a site. I think I uploaded a group from my first mish there, or something like that; I can't recall if they were set up for the whole shebang though. And of course I no longer have it bookmarked so that's about all I can tell you. :/

Quote:Funnily enough I was already half-thinking of asking if you'd like to do one of mine. Of all my arcs, WickerWork Khan seems to be the most popular so it would make sense, too, so I guess I'll toss my panda bear into the ring, if you're up for it.I think I would like to continue these, for the other winners, let me know if it's ok to do one for your arc. It may take a while, but I'll hopefully get them all done.
That'll also give me an excuse to go back over the text too; lately whenever I'm working on an arc it seems like if I go back over the text (word choice, etc) anywhere more than a week later, I'm always finding ways to make it better, pluss cachting teh ood spellinfg erorr ro typi.. -
My eyes glanced over the title of this thread just as I was clicking another one above it, without me seeing the author's name. Then my mind snapped and said "Oooh, I bet I know who wrote that thread and what it contains."
Turns out I was right. Then my mind just snapped. -
