Quote:HA! Wait, no, don't tell me that, I'm already somewhat biased against playing defenders (with only all of one to my name), I don't wanna hear they don't suck.er.../sheepish look.
I took a look at AMs enhancement screen after playing your arc (four times rofl) and found to my considerable surprise that apart from two powers, he was completely unslotted! lol no wonder he was having a bit of difficulty!
I'll definitely double check to make sure she's there and all her info's correct, that's a bit mysterious. Sadly I probably won't get a chance to check for a coupla days, depends on how my schedule - and the downtime - goes.Quote:I didn't meet her on any run through, and I thought I'd cleared tbh. The way the mission's set, it seems natural to fight the normal mobs as and when, then meet the King, then do the cocoon and then Exit. Ah well, I'll play it again after I've finished Waddle.
Thanks again! -

...unless they ask of course - I am a gentleman after all and who would I be to disappoint a new player? A cad, that's what! -
Speaking of being a spoiled brat...

I was wondering why they still want to be so stingy with a DC designation. I mean, after a thread like this, they probably won't be able to swing a dead cat in the AE in a month of Sundays... er, Thursdays... without hitting an number of arcs worthy of a DC. Why not just pass one out whenever they find a really good arc? By Christmas we'll only have six more DCs, you know? Why not make it twelve, or more?
The more great content that floats to the top of the AE, the better the AE looks to all the players, after all. -
Wow that was a fun read. I've been remiss in searching for your arcs MCM, but now I remember why I wanted to. I love these stories in your reviews...
Ok, on to the autopsy!
Quote:Starting this somewhat en medias res seemed like the best way to go about it - otherwise the first mish of beating down some CoT would have felt like a flat start to me - I mean, how often do we beat down another cave full of those guys and just yawn?[The contact is an esoteric bookshelf, and its description informs me that I have just defeated a nest of CoT to get to the book. Its an intriguing start to the arc ]
You are reliving her memories, in her place so to speak. I've received some comments about this being confusing before and even edited the text a bit before you got to it to try and make it more clear without giving the game away (which would be against the spirit of the arc), but obviously this can still be improved. Although, as I said previously in response to one of these comments, a little confusion isn't necessarily a bad thing here.Quote:Mission 1: The Wizard Machine Broken Down
[The narration is confusing, to say the least. Not because of bad writing its intentionally obtuse. I like the mysteriousness. Im now wondering whats going to happen when I enter the mission lol. Am I going to be put in Emilys persona somehow? ...OK, I think Im supposed to be Emily, but Im not sure.
Oh, there are some sideways puns and morbid humor here and there to be sure, just not an all-out laff-riot like my previous arcs (like The Ghastly Secret Of Dreams) tend to be.Quote:The Nav has me check some objects for an eBook of Ghost Writing (I thought this wasnt supposed to be humorous? Thats surely a pun there, considering the magical theme?
]
Well, it's probably someone's brain, but who's?Quote:...and the parts of the Wizards brain (is that what it is?)
There's a small number of maps in the AE that start out with that tomb (can't recall what they're filed under right now though), which was perfect for this arc as you've deduced. And those foes are called Hydra.Quote:Mission 2: The Earth Devouring Earth
[Hm, I havent seen this map before. Its quite small and has a great entryway through a sarcophagus lol. It turns out to be quite cool.]

[Repurposed Dev Earth and a er, wow, its been ages a protozoan, is it? ... I think Im in a metaphorical situation here, Emilys way of describing a dream Her comment at the start about stopping spinning, turned around and dug right down makes me think that maybe shes dead, or was dead (spinning in her grave?)
Same thing, yes. The brand Pepto isn't actually made with bismuth subsalicylate anymore, but it was just too good to pass up.Quote:[The clay tablets are presumably some sort of medicine. I didnt cotton on to bismuth at first. A wiki led me to Bismuth and then to Pepto-Bismol, which arent common to me, being british. I do eat Settlers a lot, I guess they[re the same thing.
The King is rather tough and was meant to be. Not to lay all the blame at your feet but the arc is set for 41 to 50 and you were running a Defender at 38... I was able to solo the arc on playtesting with a 50 stalker (burst damage helps to be sure) and I think I also made it through with my level 38-or-so Ill/Rad troller, but that's an Ill/Rad troller for you.Quote:Mission 4: Emilys Deletions
But - The King Of All Monsters has some hefty wallops and holds, and the other repurposes mobs also come over as a tad difficult following the fairly easy time of it Ive had so far in the arc. ... The fiery angel guys also got right up my nose, Im sorry. Whatever that constant blasty flaming whoosh-whoosh-whoosh power is makes my eyes water, so irritation crept in to dilute the enjoyment of the story for me in the last mission.
Considering he did once take down my 50 Kat/Regen scrapper in playtesting, perhaps I should give him another look-over... sorry to hear the woosh-woosh bothered your eyes though, not much I can do about that other than take it off and risk an XP loss - I'll also look into that. If you ever get a chance to run it with another AT or at a higher level let me know how things go.
Huh, she's an Lt. in the set of customs in the last mish (and her bio lays out her story "as much as the arc allows"), I would have thought you'd run into her at least once.
Thanks again for playing, for writing up such an awesome read and for the kind words about the arc. I really hope you keep doing these sorts of reviews, they're always so much fun!

Quote:FYI, the last one of these I watched earlier in the week there were only about 300 people, give or take 50 or so. I think I was able to get them to address my pet topic, but I had to spam the question a bit and payed close attention to what I was seeing on screen: "Z's talking... talking... talking... AH! He's looking at his computer screen spam it, SPAM IT!"This is why I do not participate in these events. In order to get a straight answer out of the developers on anything in a social event like this, would require several hundred people asking the exact same question. Even then some random person comes in and asks about the next booster pack and that will be the one question they answer. Even if It is surrounded on each side by 50 questions about PVP.
Or something like that. I totally understand the whole deal may just not be your thing*, but it's not quite as bad as you imagine it, I think.
*There's so much ad-speak going on and often so little real content that I probably won't bother with any more of them, myself. -
Quote:This is one reason I think I've not seen anyone I PUG with running the original story arcs since radio/newpapaer missions were added into the game (yes yes yes, I know you players who do must by law of averages be out there, don't bother jumping out of the woodwork to play gotcha, it's silly). They've made it feel penalizing. This may have been discussed when the change first came out, I don't know.PuG Story Arc Teaming: In the end, only the contact holder gets the Merits... unless we go back in time? Oh wait... Tips give Fame and Morality to all in group who are eligible... this makes sense.
The devs changed this some time back, people had found a way to exploit those Rikti for risk-free XP (yes, exploits existed before AE even existed!Quote:Nothing for you: Communications Officers open Portals to more aliens, Death Shaman continue to "bring out their dead" until the moon turns blue, Malta has insane HP drones, the Carnies fantastic phantoms... all for the low, low price of... 0 XP/0 INF? Hrm, yet the Sky Raiders shield generators reward INF and the IDF's Orbs give Minion rewards? *puts 1 and 1 together and comes up with 1 big scratch of the noggin*

I think these hint 'n' tricks should be on paragonwiki as well somewhere. Good use of graphics.

Quote:Well, I haven't seen it in ages and it is a Tom Baker ep, so it can't be all that bad, right? I just mainly recall some bad acting on the part of secondary characters, lots of dull running down corridors segments (probably hard to avoid in a minotaur story anyway) and those costumes....Oh, don't say stuff like that, I'm currently buying/watching all the classic Doctor Who stuff on DVD, Nimon is one of the ones coming up soon on my list!
Still and all, being Doctor Who, I'd gladly sit through it again instead of a LOT of other things, so maybe "trash" was too strong a word for me to use there.
Speaking of, remember this from the teaser trailer for the last half of this season?

From some footage here and there I've already seen shots of the Doctor running around the hotel corridors looking lost... It would be just like Moffat to bring them back for laughs. -
I liked the ep but I think your first half/second half critique is pretty accurate, the more I think about it. I liked the pirate ep too, just a bit of silliness thrown in amongst the heavy story arc plotline and the fans went ape... Neither are stand-out stories, but they weren't Horns Of Nimon level trash.

Here's another vote for a Claws brute. I rarely play brutes and my Claws/(can't remember) one if only at something like level 8 right now, but he's impressing me already. At level 8.
-
I thought MM pets always dropped when your level changes due to SK and whatever else???
-
Actually I've started two new toons there. I log into Praetoria, see three to five people on the first two maps (names forgotten) and then go play another toon elsewhere because I find low-level soloing to be really dull. The first toon I started right after the server opened up to American players and I found a fair number of people in Prae and thought "oh, I'll like playing here, there's life." A week or two later, nothing; I'm thinking I saw the initial wave of Americans playing their new alts there and then they left after playing more frequently than I do and out-leveling the place.
My play-time hours are partly the culprit here most likely, but even with people starting new alts, the low levels go by pretty quickly so most people are never in the low levels/zones. I think a lot of players do what they can to PL past at least 12 and continue to rushrushrush to get out their teens anyway. Add to that the "let's play 50s all the time" and it's something of a perfect storm for finding low level zones of any sort a ghost town. -
Quote:And every vet player will make one new toon, play through said content once and never show their face there again. Still, it will put a newer, fresher face on the lowbie game to help impress new players.
and both Atlas Park and Mercy Island have all new mission content to give great reasons to create a character for veteran and new players alike -
I'm still hoping to buy a Dual Archery set with a Healing Arrow power...
.. and I;d forgotten how awesome that dance gun vid is. -
Quote:I had totally forgotten about that guy in PoS (lol), I really need to rewatch that one...

Prince of Space is a great one, dunno if it's on NetFlix though.
I love the old MST3Ks and the new Cinematic Titanics, but it's been ages since I've watched any, so my memory's foggy... but here's another second for Hamlet! -
-
MMs are always good fun. I'm not much experienced with brutes, but the few I've had were great for don't-break-a-sweat solo work as well.
-
-
I'll second this notion. I'd also like to be able to purchase a DC and/or HoF status for an arc.

I've suggested ebil types do something like this - give a whopping ton of inf to complainers, sort of a "no, it is easy to get" proof of concept; but I had attached to that the caveat that you make the player promise actually read and follow the usual market suggestions and to never complain again, "Look, here's a billion now hush your prattling and go away."
