  1. "Curling"

...that the current euphemism for it these days?
  2. #32 of 40 is Arc Tracer who belongs to Quarrios Soul.
Somewhere along the way I decided I would draw something for anyone that posts on a hundred in my New Artz thread. Mostly so far it's been me though hahaha.
However Caemgen was #200 and so I'm doing his Fenian and Quarrios was #400 and so here ya go QS, enjoy.
  3. #31 of 40 is just a quick 10 min sketch that came out pretty good so I decided to color it.
    Ahem... it's a dragon.
  4. Any comment has the potential to influence a vote no matter where it is posted. Those that want to make up their own minds with no outside interference don't have to read the thread at all. Even with a huge monitor the first post listing all the entries more than fills it... just don't scroll down. View the entries on Wassy's site... or go straight to the DA gallery and look through them there... then hit new reply at the top of the thread and make your choices. There are so many options for viewing this time around that it's easily done with no reading required. Those that want input from others of course will be reading all the threads anyway.

As for the ease of counting. Set the posts per page to 500 so everything is on one long page, hit "Control+F" put a 3 (or 1 or 2 whichever is less common) in the search field and just keep hitting find next to quickly jump down the page to all the votes. Any votes not numbered won't be counted anyway so you won't miss any. That is up to Wassy though, if it's really an issue for her she can just declare this purely a vote thread no comments allowed and that would solve it.

Also I don't think we need a whole other thread.
We already have 2-3 per month already.
    *grumble grumble*

and yes, I changed her face and cape, also added more color to her (as in black and gold). she's on Virtue now if you ever want to drop me a line. I also have a widow version of her too
The forums here have a SG on virtue now in case you didn't know.

By changed are you talking about Blue is now the dominant color on Arctracer rather than Yellow? Your gallery on PB says it's locked
so I could only get it to show me a few pics.

  6. Scrolling past VexXxa's post I thought one of you overachievin' bastiches had submitted a finished piece for March already lol. *shakes fist anyways... just because*

P.S. Hey Clutch I'm still waiting on the chairman's official announcing of our theme this month.
  7. Oh coolness I like that blue one Ockham.

The red one however comes up just shy of orange awesomeness.

I think I will stay away for a while. Have a nice week everyone.
Booooo! *throws popcorn at the screen*

Sigh, oh well shows over I guess.

Joking aside LD I appreciate all the time it must have taken you to research and compile all that info.
    Cheer up man... debate happens.

And seriously, you really think Dan is representing some kind of amputee here?
No more so than you think Eddy is showing headless quadrupolegics... in other words, of course not.

However there is still a distinction to be made. Both can be lumped under the general category of cropping but they are very different techniques and used to different effect. Eddy's choice pulls the viewer in more as if your face were inches away thus you field of view would be filled and Dan's as you pointed out is more common to advertising and puts attention on the logo or wording filling the space of what's missing. Visually the difference is obvious between partially out of frame and not shown at all and I think you understand what I am saying even if you disagree yes?

I incorporated a spiral pattern in my piece in order to direct your eye around the composition. Your eye is supposed to circulate through the picture. What Caegmen is looking for here in design circles is called a "quick read." It's typical in things like book covers where there is one dominant idea that has to be conveyed quickly with nothing else to distract. It's not very sophisticated design and most visual artists will try to accomplish more if they have the option.
Yep "quick read" is the term I was thinking of as well (on this you and I agree). Again while I don't share his criteria for voting I do understand what he was trying to say.
  11. #30 of 40 is for the dragon fans again... Green Dragons need equal time it seems.
  12. Hahaha we'll see.
Not all great things go well together (bacon brownies???) but I'm pretty sure bewbiez go with everything.
Too bad they cannot be posted to the public forums here... umm... now accepting PM bribes!

@Kheldarn: Didn't you already promise your entire bewbiez, bacon and interwebz fortune to meh after I posted Ember???
...you probably don't even want to see what I just posted a few minutes ago then.
  13. Unless you use system restore (built into most flavors of Windows) to roll the system back to a time before you did the accidental reinstall.
  14. Nope just in time I am trying to figure out what to do for my last 10 and there are still a few openings yet.

Hey I remember these heroes. I was a fan of HD back when NCSoft had that big costume contest that bombed... I was one of the people who helped to turn the thread around into something positive after it went all south in a hurry lol.

Your post count doesn't seem to have changed much since then haha... have you been away or just on perma-lurk mode since then?

P.S. Hey HD has a different face now (and different cape etc as well)... or am I imagining that?

Actually I have a pretty good idea of how it feels... I went through the same thing like few months prior to your OP.

What if people don't like it... what if they do like it? What if they ignore it altogether (things have picked up remarkably in recent months but for a while I could almost hear crickets chirping when I would post something and days went by with no one saying anything but yet I knew "they" were looking cuz the view counter was going up)... and I don't really even want my art to get "out there" anyway an... an... oh crap I pushed submit.

Thankfully people around here for the most part have been very encouraging and receptive to my work (something many people I know in RL most decidedly have not been) they tell me when I'm do something well (VexXxa's great at that ) but also give me the feedback and critique any artist needs to get better over time... and the occasional kick in the pants.

It's a pretty good bunch... (I'm sure you've seen that in the past month or two) and I think you'll be glad you pushed submit in the long run.

Oh and since I somehow missed this thread before and didn't say it... Welcome.
  16. Thanks PS.
It's what I could manage with the time I had... I hope to do better next month if I can manage to shake this darn flu.

Not that I agree necessarily with Caemgen's points but to be fair... hands, feet and heads not showing because the image is "zoomed in" is different from a girl with no legs.

    I don't see a contradiction there.

Also while I don't share or agree with his criteria (or his vote for that matter) I will say that when looking at Battlewraiths piece I too found my self looking at the girl then that little boys face, the pong match (nice touch that ) playing on the lost's tv/head and the hula clocks and then back to the kids face... a lot (creepy kid lol) and even wondering what was up with the black donut in his hand and trying to guess if the other guy in the background was a hero villain or something else... oh hey that's the donut shop in Overbrook, cool! and what was the score on the pong match and is that somehow significant? Basically I was bouncing all over the place.

While I don't think less of the piece for all it includes I understand what Caemgen is saying about it...

For LD's piece I see girl... oh hey look it's Sally... and back to the girl and ooh her tripod is holding up her dress and hey he snuck his Heoz tag/logo on the sign... and back the girl again.

There were more cool things going on in BW's piece but LD's work just does a better job of keeping my attention focused on the girl.

P.S. @ Caemgen... did you (or anyone else for that matter ) even bother to read the book?

I really just wanted to know how big (in terms of pixels, cuz thats what I'm concerned with) other digital artists were working, because I was feeling cramped at the size I was working.

I expected to find out either I was working foolishly too small ('Dude! We're all working at 20,000 by 60,000 pixels! How can you get anything to work as small as you do!?!') or that I was working at the same size everyone else is and just suck ('Dude, you just need to paint better!'). I guess expectations are like assumptions.

Yes, I'm talking size in pixels. That's what I'm thinking in. I'm only aiming at images for the computer screen, on the web. When I crunch it down for the final .jpg to post on DA, I'm thinking of how many pixels wide by how many pixels high it'll be.

When I get to a point where I'll be considering printing, I'll be able to think in dots per inch and pixels per inch.

As I pm'ed to Lousy_Day, yes, he understood what I was asking, in the way I asked it.

I really don't want anybody getting ruffled over this. I respect all of you as artists. But I also respect your individual rights to speak your own minds and argue your own points.

(sniff!) I LOVE you guys and gals!
No worries U-Naught and certainly don't ever let it stop you from asking a question... one should never fear honest debate and as long as everyone keeps it "above the belt" then people should be free to express various and even directly opposing views and argue their case.

As debates go this one was pretty civil, if a bit nerdy (seriously LD were you wearing a pocket protector when busting out the long math? ), and there was some good info shared to boot.

Either way... debate happens (that should be a bumper sticker or something ) you can't stop it and you shouldn't shy away from it.
*goes back to munching on popcorn and watching the sparks oooh ahhhhh*

Sidenote: @VexXxa to be fair LD did already apologize and acknowledge Jk and Bw relevant expertise prior to your post so your tooting of Johhny's horn was unnecessary... he's a big boy and can stand or fall on the merits of his own points just fine.
(See how easy it is to start something? )

P.S. I think in pixels primarily even though I work on actual sheets of paper... (I know how backwards is that? ) but then I build custom computers so I gotta know monitor specs off the top of my head so as to answer clients questions.
  19. Your previous time here probably long predates me (only stumbled across these forums in the last 6 months or so) so I don't recognize the name but by all means welcome back Soulasylum.

Love the lightning effect on that piece too.
  20. So no one noticed the little gag I threw in hunh?
    Oh wellz
  21. #29 of 40 is a quick sketchy pic of Ember from the DragonLance series. I threw some color on it since he is pretty much just a few shades of red.

    Talking Cakes!!

Congratulations! It is very cool to hear about people coming to this game for entertainment and getting so much more than they bargained for.

That is a very cool idea for Croatoa and a nice sketch (I wonder if you have ever heard of THP ) I would suggest if you can find a way to work it in put the gnarled tree of Katie Hannon on there... might even be able to use candles or string lights to simulate Will O' Wisps too floating amidst the branches (don't know if candles works on a wedding cake though).

P.S. would the one table near the door to the men's room be Crey's Folley then? Or the Abandonned Sewers? ...oh wait I got it... BOOM-town!
  23. Unless you are using click to move (I can't imagine it working too well on a slide) how would dropping a portal on a jump be a problem?

Evil Synapse smashing your laptop is pretty hilarious.
  24. I actually saw it almost instantly (having just recently had occasion to draw morbid horns again their curvature was fresh in memory) I just hadn't come to the thread in a while... some days I feel pretty good but a few were pretty brutal. I'm not 100% but I'm getting there. Thanks for asking.
On the horns if you are sending him the same refs you send everyone else then I agree he is probably doing on purpose for cool effect and as long as you are cool with it then it's all good just thought I'd mention it in case it was only OCR.
