This one should be yellow since the moon is made of cheese!

Quote:To be fair, it as kind of subtleSo I guess you missed the gift art I placed at the bottom of my last post. Or worse you didn't like it... lolol.
I only noticed it because I was confused wtf you were talking about so reread the sentence...
And btw - really nice work! -
Quote:I'm not trying to be difficult but... Nope, I don't think it would be very useful.Well, here's an idea. What if you put a link in your signature for the month? You wouldn't have to change or delete yours, just adding a prominent link to the contest up top. Do you think that would be useful?
Also I'm not sure what you mean by posting the comics. Can you elaborate?
I do, probably, 99% of all my posting in this forum and again, anyone seeing my posts most likely has seen your comic or just isn't going to...
No worries though... I'll eventually find a way to get a cameo in your comic through some more nefarious means!
As for posting your comics, what I meant was post them.
Start a new thread called Jordan's Town and post the first X number of strips in it so that people could read it right here, right in the post. Let people see on the CoH boards why they should bother going to your site to read them by letting them read a couple here... Get them hooked so they HAVE to go to your site to see the rest -
As for model sheets being more effort than they're worth: The fact that (I think) every artist who has commented in this thread so far has said that they prefers working with them is a HUGE factor to get them.
Specially if you are trying to get art done by a picky or choosey artist who can pick through requests for which ones he really wants to do, there is no reason not to make your request as attractive to them as possible...
Regarding how difficult model sheets are to get: While I agree that there seems to be a distinct lack of artists offering these on their menu, once you do find someone to do it the process likely doesn't need to be quite as complicated as you think.
Byani is very exacting and precise about what he wants and he wants the best. (Or at least that's my take, apologies if I am mistaken...) I would imagine that due to this he was much more exacting and demanding in his model sheets than is absolutely neccessary. I believe he wanted "Pro Quality" model sheets, not just "something that will be sufficient."
Seems to me, the main goal of the model sheets are to make the character clear. To make it easily seen where that stripe goes, the placement of that symbol, how tall the boots are, how low the jacket hangs, etc... I don't think you neccessarily need "Pro Quality" model sheets for that... I believe Bayani wanted them because he is going after "Pro Quality" artists and thus wanted the best to attract the best... If your goals are not quite so lofty I believe you can go with more readily available model sheets that won't be nearly so difficult to get.
In other words, if you found a good artist who was willing to do them you could probably have the same person do the pencils, inks and colors and get a perfectly good and usable model sheet.
Where to get one done: So far the only artist I have found who offers model sheets on their menu is Gavinslayer, his journal with his menu is here. I considered using him but have held off so far since, and I don't want to be rude here but... I had some concerns about his ability to correctly pull off Caemgen's horns. They've proven difficult for most artists and while he has talent I've had better have problems with them. *shrug* Still, I may end up going to him for Fenian...
But yeah, he's the only one I've seen so far outright offering that service.
Still, inquiring about an artists willingness to do model sheets is NOT the same as asking them about their willingness to do a style that they don't normally do. What you would be asking them is if they would do the style they do already but do the same porse from 2, 3,4 (whatever) different angles. It's not ALL THAT MUCH different than having them do a commission with 3 different characters in it and no background.
I get where you're coming from on that though, I am very reluctant to be too pushy with requests and such. I basically feel if they're not offering it I'm not going to ask... But this isn't asking a chibi artist to do comic book style... This is asking a comic book style artist to do several very similiar comic book style arts of the same character.
And regarding thiese quotes:
Quote:and your reply of:Originally Posted by FrozenDeathIf you're looking at artists for a commission, that might be something to consider. Do you want them to basically voice your ideas faithfully within the constraints of their style and ability? Or do you want to give them authority to do something unexpected. Often times I end up doing both. I start out as Willy Wonka, but get reined in and by the end of the project I'm a commercial artist.
Quote:A very good point BW. At this point in time, I want them to voice my ideas faithfully within their style and abilities. I'm not looking at artists that specialize in .... let's say chibis ... and expecting to get what I want since that isn't their style. Not saying there is anything wrong with chibis, just that it isn't the style I'm looking for. Similarly, while I love Bruce Timm's style, I don't want to see TJ depicted in that style. At least not yet.
I think what BW (FD, soooo confusing sometimes!) meant was: Do you want the artist to do exactly what you want in regards to pose, expression, power effects as well as staying 100% true to every detail... Or do you want that particular artists unique style to seep into the art and influence all of those things to one extent or another.
BW's art is very different to Wassy's. They're both very different than CR. And so on and so on.
If you sent the same exact thing to all three would you expect it to come out exactly the same? Or would you want each artist to take your request, run it through their own unique artistic vision and talents, to come out with a unique blend of your request and their vision?
Some artists are much better at just putting down exactly what the client wants as if they were tracing the vision from your imagination. Other artists are much better when given the leeway to take your character and scene request and run with it as they see fit...
Anyway, I think that was kind of the point BW was getting at... Again, apologies if I misconstrued things.
And I've rambled enough.

Sweet!
Though would have been funnier if it was a different raised finger... -
Nice! I'll definitely have to check out that artist...
And I've always had a thing for redheads!! -
The skull looks very cool...
Question: is it a normal human skull? To me it looks like the mouth/jaw are a bit too large - but I am NOT an anatomy expert at all so I could easily be wrong... Was just curious if it was perhaps a more primitive man skull or if it was just me or what... -
I've been baked a few times - no photographic evidence but I'm sure if there was it would look like I was munching on chips or something...

For whatever it may be worth, try holding down Ctrl when hitting PrntScrn. For whatever reason when just print screen doesn't work for me, control-print screen will. I swear it's on a lunar cycle or something because whether I need to use control in the creator or in game seems to change every so often...

What was power invented for if not to be abused???

Quote:Closest I have to a website is my DA page and anyone watching that is on this forum so I wouldn't even try to claim it would draw new attention to your site...Can't enter? Why not? I suppose if you don't have the time for any of those, don't do Facebook and don't have a webpage...
If you can think of something else that would help grown the content of fanbase of my page, I'm looking for more ideas that would count as contest entries.
I think I have all of 5 friends on Facebook - I don't actually use it. Got convinced to make an account once and within minutes got so sick of all the farmville spam that I abandoned it
My only ideas on how to garner more attention for your site would be to make the comic a bit more visible... You should consider posting like the first 4 or 5 strips up at once so people can get a taste of them without having to go to your site. Some people are awfully lazy about visitng sites unless there is a huge draw :P
Anyway, besides that I'm more about seeing guides than writing them -
Quote:Well I don't know enough to really make an assumption about how he's making the art (or pictures if you prefer) but one reason I was never tempted to get a piece by them was because all the pics do have a slightly porno pose to them... Actually this one is one of the first I've noticed that isn't...I'm sorry, I am. But I'm kind of amazed at the reaction he's getting. His work is very slick and I think he's delivering a good product. People are obviously very happy with what they're getting.
But I don't think he does faces. It's pretty clear to me that he's tracing images of adult actresses or models and coloring them. I really can't prove it, so if people feel I'm out of line---again I'm sorry. But if you have experience in photomanipulation his work has all the tell tale signs. Don't get me wrong he's very skilled at what he's doing. But it's not uniformly excellent and that's a large part of red flags I see looking at his stuff. He wanders from straight up photorealism to vague or contradictory rendering in the space of one image.
I have noticed inconsistancies in quality in parts but I had just assumed the artist had better references for the people than the clothes or such... -
Actually Wolffie's scenario is pretty much what I imagined for the scene... As for why DD would trap herself in the ring of fire with him I can imagine a couple of reasons.
1) She was just that close to him and had no choice. Maybe doesn't fit perfectly with game mechanics but I personally have no problems breaking out of those chains for arts...
2) She wanted to give him a target to focus his rage on. Sure, he probably doesn't want to run through the flames but I doubt he's going to just sit and wait til the die down... So rather than have him run through them and continue after his targets, she isolated the two of them together so he would focus on her. Yeah, it makes her job harder but she's the hero in the pic so what you expect her to do, take the easy way out and risk civvies??
3) Ooooops!!
Anyway, I always just assume that the superheroes (or villians) are basically immune to their own powers for one reason or another so I don't even consider that she may be afraid she cannot run through her own circle unscathed...
If I was going to nitpick on any of the mechanics of the pic at all it would be a bow user being that close to the target to begin with... Even if she was that close when she stumbled upon Wolffe isn't that awfully close range to be effectively using a bow at? And in the same vein, it would seem her pose would be further along the path of releasing arrow and either drawing a new one or getting ready for another attack than this considering how far along his path of getting shot and turning around in anger and launching at her he is... Unless he's just THAT much faster than she is.
But all in all, I don't worry about such mechanics anywhere near as much as CR does so I am just basically enjoying the pic
Though now that I am thinking in these terms... Which did she do first, call up the ring of fire or shoot him? If shoot then shouldn't we be seeing the after effects of her summoning the fire? If the fire, shouldn't he have already have been turning to figure out what happened before he could have been shot? -
Very, very nice!! Great art and nice catch.

Nooooooooooo!!!!
Some dastardly dastard has trapped our Amerikatt on her own satellite Katt Kave?? We cannot allow this to happen!!
Heroes Studio draw together!! We must systematically take down each and every member of Amerikatt's Rogues Gallery until we catch the culprit responsible and bring them to justice!! To allow the Mickey Mouse Club that is our favorite feline's Rogues Gallery to hold her out of commission for a moment longer would be a travesty! -
Not sure who that is but if he's anywhere near as good as NeMa I'll have to check him out...
-
Well if it's not in the S&FC forum chances of me seeing it are slim to -212...
Anyway, neat contest and great way to promote your site... Unfortunately I don't think I can enter but I'll be eagerly watching to see who wins!
(And seriously? If anyone enters, wins and takes the time card prize... Well I'll be smacking them the first chance I get!) -
WOOT WOOT!
Even more new art just in! I debated holding this one back for a few days just so as not to steal any thunder the other pieces may have but I'm just loving this new piece too much!!
I was very lucky a couple of weeks ago to have seen NeMAfronSPAiN's journal soon after he posted it since he was saying that he was open for three commissions... I jumped on that as quickly as I could!! I'd have loved to have snatched up all three spots but I'm not THAT luckyI did get one though....
Carlos Gomez was absolutely fantastic to work with and seemed eager and willing to have as much back and forth as required to get the picture right. Of course since he's so good it actually didn't take all that much
And before anyone even tries to nitpick Caemgen's horns, I have no doubt he would have gotten them exact if I so much as mentioned anything about them but I think the way he did them fit so perfectly with the rest of the picture that doing so never even crossed my mind...
Anyway, here is the art...
I'll have the full sized file up on my DA page in a few minutes and if you like the above I totally suggest you check it out full sized so you can get all the details
The only, very very minor, regret I have about the finished work I have is that the smoke in the final version blocks one of my favorite details which was in the final sketch... This cutout if from that sketch, it's from the area now covered by smoke which was just to the right of Fenian...
And Vex, before you ask... I have no idea who I am going to have color this -
Very nice additions... And sorry but no, there is no patch to help you through art withdrawal. You have to go cold turkey or nothing! (And I suspect cold turkey only is effective when you're bankrupt, destitute and carry a sign saying Will Work for Artz!)
All three are cool but I think the Snareser/Spidermanfan collab is the best of them as (to me at least) it's the one that most catches the characters look and personality in the piece. -
New stuffs... Actually most has been kicking around a little bit and I'm finally getting around to posting it
Nahid, aka Liber-Logos, jumped into our little forum in this thread here and offered to doodle up a couple of my trio, that thread resulted in them doing art for Fenian and Alpha... Besides loving both, I have a big problem with not having a complete set from an artist, so I finally hired them to do Caemgen(Liber-Logos DA page is here)
Next up is two pieces by the wonderful Studio-Gemblee - And they're Irish so you KNOW they have to be good! :P I don't have the full set yet but the third is in the works but I've gotten tired of not sharing these two... If you like these at all you should definitely check her out. Not only were the prices all right (even if they were those funny Euro things!) but I must say I got a lot more than expected...
Lastly up (but not leastly) is a colorizing...
Perhaps you remember the Jirogam pics I got a bit back, perhaps not... Anyway, I went a bit of an odd route and split up the colorizing. The solo pics are still being worked on by another colorist but our own Eddy Swan did the Trio pic... Normally I wait and let Eddy post the colorized versions in his own thread but I'm too impatient today :P
Full sized versions of all will be going up in my DA page soonishly...
