Welcome to the game.
That said, Steam is a virus. -
I usually get time cards from Amazon. $20-21 for two months, which is a nice price.

Quote:I think that's as designed. The tips in the Isles offer you two choices, villain or rogue - but since you're a vigilante, you can't get rogue points, so you only see the one choice.OK, I have a question. I've moved two Heroes to Vigilante status. Prior to shifting alignment, every Tip I received offered me the option to run it as Hero or Vigilante, as expected. Now that I have moved those two heroes to the Rogue Isles, planning on shifting them to Villain now, I am finding that Tips only offer me ONE morality option. Some are Villain and some are Vigilante, with no choice between the two.
Is that working as intended? I was under the impression that Tips always offered two options. -
Something that I think should be in the guide is that it's possible to change sides before hitting level 20.
I know that I personally saw it repeated over and over that you have to be level 20 to chance sides, but it turns out that's not the case. You have to be over 20 to get the missions, but even before then, it turns out you can change sides - you just have to be grouped with people who can get and do the missions. (Also, since you don't have the tip UI, you can't tell how far you are along.)
My level 18 corrupter is a Rogue now -
The number of tokens is going up to 20/day after tonight's maintenance.

I believe you get the GR launcher by adding: -uiskin 2
to the shortcut.

Quote:Actually, what I think should make Paragon think twice about GameStop is that even after giving the exclusive pre-order goodies, GameStop isn't featuring GR on the main page on launch day. That doesn't surprise me at all. It's not the fault of Paragon. For the rest of the continent it was released on the appropriate day. This is an issue with Gamestop. Although, I hope this issue as well as the issue with some American customers no receiving their pre-order goodies makes Paragon think twice before giving exclusive pre-order deals.

Quote:He probably owns stock in Activision and Sony.Keep pushing the Dooooom button, Optical. The rest of us are going to enjoy the game without you.
Do you really think NCSoft can't figure out what games are good investments and which ones aren't? They chose to infuse a lot of capital into City of Heroes, and Paragon Studios. They are nowhere near the point where they're ready to pull the plug on anything.
Instead of worrying, why don't you play, and invite others to play that aren't already? Why would they want to play a game with people like you forecasting its demise? -
Quote:Here's why you're wrong. You can't affect the ownershiip of Batman by creating a Batman character because you don't have the legal right to assign ownership of the IP. Same reason you can't sell stolen goods.Think about it this way: If your interpretation were correct, then I could create Batman on Freedom, and suddenly NCSoft would own Batman. That's ridiculous. (I realize the character creator stops you from using the name Batman. Insert a character name that it doesn't stop.)
If you are the legitimate owner of the IP, then you have the ability to enter into a contract transfering ownership of the IP. -
Quote:*sigh*I might have been wrong about the pitch meeting - that may be part of Hollywood myth.
However, the fundamental ownership was - according to the courts - undeniably Mr. DeCosta's, for the glaringly obvious reason that he not only created the "Paladin" character, but in fact was the "Paladin" character.
What we create, we own.
Yes, we own what we create.
Until we give the rights away.
The point is - the EULA contains language that can be interpreted as doing just that. Tossing aside all arguments about the enforceability of EULAs, the core fact is that creating a character from an IP you own opens the door to having that IP contested. Regardless of what you feel about the likelihood of such a suit being brought or its eventual resolution, it seems like a foolhardy idea to create such risk. -
Quote:I explain it this way: niche game.yes there are some legit reasons but how do you explain CoH only having roughly 60k subs and earning 1mil per month currently when in 2009 there were roughly 21,000,000 (pay to play) mmo gamers in the U.S. alone who spent an average of $15 per month???
Even with flaws, CoH is one of the cooler games out there compared so why such poor numbers??? -
While I agree that some of the TFs could use a rework (Shard TFs I'm looking at you), I would much much rather the devs work on new TFs and SFs.
-
Also, we should remember that the AE edition box hit in Q2 2009. That impacted the numbers I'm sure, so a straight year over year doesn't tell us as much - we'll have to see the Q3/Q4 numbers in 2010 to see what GR does.

Quote:This is also senseless. And Schismatrix I have made suggestions and pointed out actions by the Developers which do drive players away.
ANYTHING the developers do will drive some players away. Ironically, doing nothing will also drive some players away.
Pointing out that the developers actions will drive some players away is on par with predicting that the sun will come up tomorrow. What's harder and actually constructive is making suggestions that will bring new players in. -
There's a lot of stuff on that web site - what you'll want is EC2, that's the service that lets you run linux or windows instances in Amazon datacenters.
-
I'm curious. Are you able to use Amazon Web Services (aws.amazon.com)? They rent servers by the hour, so anyone could rent a linux box for about 8 cents and set up a proxy server for an hour. They even will rent a box running Windows server, so you could use that directly. Either way, you'd be coming from a US IP, so no regional block.

Quote:I agree that normal accounting wouldn't account for pre-purchase revenue until Q3. Personally, I would suspect that increased Q2 revenue is mainly due to sales of the Mutant Booster Pack.I don't believe they can count the pre-purchase as rev yet. If i remember from my accounting classes, since they haven't provided you with what you paid for yet, they can't say they've made money till they do (provide you with what you paid for, that is). So on Tuesday they can, i would expect then to see the numbers up in Q3 between the consistent player base and the GR pre-purchase sales and retail sales. Though i suppose i could be wrong.

Yep, I'm pretty sure you must have prepurchased it from NCSoft.
I'd check on the 17th before you head to a store - I'm certain you'll find you have access to GR. -
You have no chance to survive, make your post count

Quote:It's kind of you to offer, but you don't need to compensate me. It's not like I actually lost anything. You're absolutely right, Brillig... I am sorry about that.. I didn't notice the 101 on your bid and sort of assumed that Shadow out-bid you.
Unfortunately, I have just now concluded giving him all the bases.
To be fair, I am offering you the 101,000,000 influence that you bid. You were wronged in this and I feel badly about that. Just send me a PM letting me know your global and I will email the influence to you to cover your losses.
Good luck on your new journey/competition/insanity in GR!
