They are looking at making the market accessible out of game.
WW/BM out of game seems incredibly unlikely (consider that they were unable to let you access it in mission maps/bases because it was going to pull down the entire database - they're not going to send all that data to a phone.)
Oh, and this isn't a bug /em points at forum name. -
Does anyone even know if Free players can get the SSA rewards? I believe you need to be tier 4 to get reward merits. Incarnate rewards are right out, and I don't know whether a free player can get alignment merits without purchasing the alignment system (I would guess not).
So it's a lot more than $5 to get started with rewards. -
Quote:The game with hobbits (my these forum restrictions are dumb) did exactly that, where their European operations were entirely separate and run by a different company. That all implies an interesting business model for MMOs--what if NCSoft or Paragon or whoever, licensed their MMO to different franchises who administered the game? You could play Company A's MMO1 or company B's MMO1 where company A and company B would be platform providers of a sort perhaps providing a platform for games from multiple MMO makers.
The problem they ran into was they recently merged the operations back, which was a pretty huge and ugly mess. -
Quote:Well, the 'first time' reward is per character, so you'll run the complete set once per character, which is not inconsiderable in a game as alt heavy as ours. And from that perspective it's not that different from any other piece of content. There are very few things (outside TFs and trials) that get repeated on an individual character. Why would I run seven sets of three missions of varying difficulties, when I can pick the quickest of those three and just run that one?
Which was my point, giving us seven fun little arcs is fine, I'll play through them each once. But when it comes to the rewards? It'll be quickest first, and forget the rest because there will be no reward for doing them.
I don't think you quite got that, as long as the Signature Storyarcs, share the same cool down on rewards, in the long run whats the point in having seven of them? People will only repeat the easiest/quickest one and leave them to rot the rest of the week. -

Quote:This totally cracks me up.Well I can indefinitely say that our SG is having a hard time because we really want to OOC chat with the Premiums and they can't because they don't have that much money to drop instantly. We're mostly VIPs that brought friends in, who became premium, and now they're only getting 1/4th of the SG experience because they can't pump out $15 a month. It also inconveniences the VIPs because now we're having to brainstorm over a whole new method.
So, without the OOC chat they're only getting 1/4 of the 'SG experience'? Then it sounds to me an awful lot like you should be using SG chat for OOC and another channel for RP, then they can get 3/4 of the 'SG experience'.
If the assertion is true, then the problem is with the user, not the system. -
Quote:This is to prevent RMT spam. Which has been stated repeatedly on every page of this thread. RMT spam is far more annoying to the existing players, so stop trying to paint this as subscriber elitism.Yeah, my friend created a new account and we couldn't send "tells". It is kinda annoying. I have to invite him to the team first and then chat.
I am really not too sure if restricting "private tells" achieves anything besides annoying existing players. I guess some existing players don't want private tells from newbies?
I thought there is an option to decline tells? -
Quote:No, that's not true - any VIP/subscriber automatically has full chat/email/channel access. The one thing that bothers me here is that a player who decides to make the jump to VIP and purchases $45 worth of game time still won't have access to global chat until the time is up, while a player who sticks to Premium and buys the same dollar value worth of points will have full access right away. In this situation, the VIP is at a disadvantage.
I really hope the devs get the whole token thing sorted out soon. -
Quote:No, it's experience talking. No it won't, that's RMT paranoia talking. Spending 5 minutes a day (less than that after the first few days) to unsilence new people in the channel is not going to cause a cascade failure. It's called responsibility, and if people don't take it, we get petty threats like this as a facade for the real issues.
And it's not 5 minutes a day to unsilence people that's the problem, it's having to silence people who cause problems that's a problem. That's continuous ongoing enforcement. MMO companies can't afford the cost to moderate their channels - asking volunteers to shoulder the burden is ridiculous.
Quote:Fact: I can spend $5 and create a program that sends RMT mail to every person in the game. Really, just $5, no joke. Premium members get in-game mail. I can also spend $5 and spam messages to everyone.
Quote:I just can't join a channel with MUCH less people in it and spam them because it's $45. Then again I couldn't do that in the first place if channel moderators owned up to their responsibilities and checked my name before unsilencing.
Quote:RMT is a facade, a long past event that still grips people with paranoia and allows Paragon to get away with taking away a well nigh essential part of the game experience. Free players shouldn't get squat, but premium players that pay when they can? They deserve respect. -
-
Quote:That attitude will result in there being only two types of channels. The spam-filled and the dead. Can't take the responsibility? Don't host a channel. You created it, you are labelled as a moderator, it is your responsibility. You unsilence people all the time, re-silencing them is just part of being a moderator.
People who moderate the globals take some of their play time to try to provide a better environment for the rest of us. Unless you're willing to do the same, your appropriate responses are either gratitude or silence. -
4 <blank>/Emp controllers is absurd. In a good way.
Build for high (perma+ levels) recharge, at the end, you'd all have:
Triple stacked fortitude = beyond the defense soft cap + 75% damage
Perma-AB + 2 RA (in rotation) = regen and recovery capped
Clear Mind = no mez issues
It's a lot of click-management, but on the otherhand, there's no tethering to a bubble.
At that point, you might as well just skip the healz. -
Quote:WW1 is seven syllables.Heh, I've never liked abbreviating things with Ws. They typically make the "abbreviation" longer than the actual thing being abbreviated.
Examples:
World War One (3 Syllables)
WW1 (5 Syllables)
Who Will Die One (4 Syllables)
WWD1 (6 Syllables)
I know we're typing these, but still...Kind of funny to think about! -
I'm a little surprised that no one thinks that this was given to VIPs because of the Exalted server. When that was announced, there was a lot of hue and cry about wanting free transfers to the Exalted server. I think that Paragon decided that this was a way to give VIPs a way to transfer their characters over to Exalted (albeit slowly), while selling more transfer tokens to the impatient ones (~99%).
-
This is odd - if she had a copy of CoH at some point, she should have had a retail code on her account, which should have given her the second token already.
May wish to contact support about this. -
Quote:Maybe yes, maybe no. Everyone should read Zwill's statement.Late September I received a Paragon Reward token, but no points. I believe that was because I'd already received my September points when Freedom went live. I'm expecting to get my next allotment of points when I get my next Reward token.
Paragon Reward Tokens are awarded according to played time (just like the old veteran's rewards system, this date is not necessarily synched with your billing date.
Paragon Points are awarded on your billing date, unless that falls between the 1st and the 11th, in which case points should be awarded on the 11th in October, and be 'walked back' over the ensuing months until it's back in sync with your billing date. -
Since 'on T4' has the potential to be ambiguous - you do have 8 or more reward tokens, right? As long as the 'thermometer' has reached the fourth star, you should have access.

From the FAQ http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/freedom/faq/
Quote:Since you wouldn't have earned any through Veteran rewards, unless you purchased more, two appears to be the correct number. One notable difference is that Free Players are limited to two character slots total, plus any character slots directly purchased or earned through Veteran Rewards -
The thing is, they had to add containment in order to make controllers viable (from their all control, low damage genesis). And this is what you're basically proposing, a melee controller with a lot of soft controls.
I think that in order for this to work, you'd need to add something similar, enhanced damage to an opponent that is already knocked down - which is a mechanic that doesn't exist (to my knowledge).
Still, it's an interesting idea. -
Quote:This attitude is the excuse all MMO devs use for refusing to give out any information at all.As you have been candid with us Zwill, allow me to be candid with Paragon.
Concerning the part I red-lighted, it is a simple fact with bad implications for the future if Paragon feels comfortable with telling us details ahead of major future releases that they find out later they CAN. NOT. DO.
To Paragon as a whole. Either make sure ahead of time that you can deliver what you say you will deliver or DO NOT make it an Official selling point in the first place. This is the manner of all organizations with respectable reputations. Even then mistakes can be made, and I am not without understanding for this, but what can you do to reassure me about this not happening again?
This: Although I've never been forced to ask for this before, I would rather appreciate an apology from a Developer for saying that we would be awarded all tokens paid-for up-front and then failing to keep the trust. As I said, I do understand that mistakes are part of being human, but what seperates the sinners from the saints is the saints don't make these mistakes twice, and are sorry for making them.
In closing, I would be happy to forgive and forget, and chalk this up as an error in judgement - but for that, I need to know that you feel badly about it. Frankly, I'm not angry with Paragon. Just very, very extremely dissapointed.
Thought for the day: A broken promise is a lie foretold if inaction and ignorance are allowed to trump respect and honor.
You can either choose to have no information ahead of time, or to have information and deal with the fact that occasionally things will go wrong. I prefer the latter, thank you.
As for needing to know that they feel badly about it, what the heck do you want? Should Zwill rub gravel through his hair on the next UStream?
Quoting the official freaking post:
Quote:We sincerely apologize for any confusion that this may have caused. -
Quote:Even in the UK, I believe you have to return whatever you purchased to get a refund.Problem in some countries for example the UK that policy is illegal.
Imagine, for a moment, that NCSoft has no way to delete permissions at this level. The only way to 'return' the item in that case would be to lock the account.
Hey, hidden benefits! -
I think it would be amusing if Paragon resolved this by refunding the OP's sub and locking his account...

Quote:If you 'knew' this, you were wrong. Huge chunks of content and powersets have been sold outside of the subscription, most recently in Going Rogue. Now I had no issue with the supplmentry Packs before "Freedom" everything was straight forward you knew that your monthly subscription was going to take care of all the new content and all the new primary and secondary powers. If you wanted the fluff you could buy it in a pack, and with the exception of the party pack, I thought it was pretty much a good deal-- you knew exactly what you were getting and what you had.
The difference now is that instead of waiting months/years for an expansion, we get pay-to-play content delivered to us weekly or monthly, and on an a la carte basis. -
That seems unlikely. They seem to be trying to get more standardized rather than less. However, a high level of sales does probably mean a longer amount of time before it goes on sale.
