That doesn't make it not stupid. Basically what the writers were doing is saying they got the powers "just 'cus", which is lazy writing from where I stand. Yes, I get that they're not the same thing, and applying general rules of science in a comic book setting is a rather silly practice, but their handling of it in the main Marvel U is... weak.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, for when they were created, I'd say it was a rather new idea.
Everyone else was hit by some beam, or an alien, or what have you.
Then the mutants arrived. Humans just born with the powers.
What might make it seem so ununique now, is that Marvel started using mutants alot. Where everyone and their mother had mutant genes.
I think M-Day kinda helped with that. But, imo it never should have gotten to a quarter of the world being mutants. -

[ QUOTE ]
As for why there are few mutants walking around with detrimental powers...well, that's where standard evolutionary protocol comes in. If your mutation makes your life difficult, harder, or even impossible, your survival rate is diminished. Negative mutations die off, while positive ones thrive.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem is that we don't get to see mutants with detrimental powers at all. Evolution doesn't act insofar as killing those with less desirable attributes via external methods. It acts by spreading that gene less. If it's really random, there would actually be X-gene carriers than are fundamentally weaker than the average person, especially considering some of the things that the X-gene seems to affect, such as regeneration, cognition, sensory perception, and physical strength. Unless the X-gene operates exclusively by improving rather than actually operating as genetic mutation would imply, you'd expect to see at least as many cases of mutants that die as soon as puberty hits because their X-gene kicks in and wipes out their regenerative capabilities or others that suddenly go blind, deaf, and stupid because the X-gene just crippled them as there are that are capable of super human regeneration and perception.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, who says that doesn't happen?
Regenerative capabilities are severly weakened/gone all together. Maybe the doctors didn't look to see if they had the mutant gene, but rather, shook their heds as her whole body shut down? -

So it's a techo-organic virus? That's still Technology. If it didn't have any technological component at all, you could make a case for Science, but with the nanite aspect in there you're stuck with Tech.
I suppose people are free to RP whatever they want, but to me it just seems like beating your head against the wall. I get the same feeling when I see people trying to RP their Kheldians as anything but a Kheldian. I don't understand how taking something with such a clearly outlined background and saying that it's something entirely different can be rewarding. There's bending the guidelines, and then there's going entirely outside them and telling yourself you haven't.

I have a PB who is a mutant and a PB. As a mutant her powers were energy powers alot like a PB, as such she now has to wear special guantlets as she has to much energy to deal with.
That I would think, would make her Natural/Mutant (as PBs are natural, and no where does it say, Kheldians only join with normal humans).
I've however also been toying with the idea of making another, human only PB, and RPing it as a mutant. Haven't fully decided on this or not, but the powers Human Form PBs have fit the concept so well.
Lots of flash, range and melee, shields, heal, self-rez, even a bit of a super strength feel to the melee attacks.
This fits alot of what I want for my concept, and I can't find that in any other AT.
Even with Epics involved.
I mean, I need to wait for Science Booster, and lvl 40 (for 5th costume slot) for the concept to be fully reached, and one of the forms needing claws, I can go with monstorous gloves.
*sigh* I'm talking myself into it even more as I type that out.
I see why people do it. Thus far, I've avoided doing it myself, but now...it's looking tempting just because it fits so well with how I envision the character. -
Ran it on my DB/SR for the first time last night.
Last mission was interresting. Yes, I got the M.Bison feeling from the last guy, glad I wasn't the only one.
The other 4 AVs didn't seem that big of a threat (a scrapper and one controller was taking them down).
My real complaint about it. The XP is sucky.I like the ITF better.

We have a whole thread full of names people post up that are free, or offer up when they delete...Virtue Name Watch, its even a sticky. Just grabbed Brass Butterfly from there last night in fact.
I am a proponent of freeing up all names on accounts pre I5 or 6, whenever it was they added in globals, though. Seriously, if you have never logged in since they implemented that, you aren't even going to remember what names you had...
[/ QUOTE ]
That reminds me...Butterfly-Girl, a name I got a few weeks ago (maybe a month?)...my BS/INV scrapper.
I was all "O.O OMG! I can't believe it!" when I got the name. Oh how I love that name.
Like I said, before, just keep trying. -
Been there. Good thing I've rolled multiples of my main.
Though, I base the origin on what she believes to be the case at the time. As her story has gone on, it has changed.
The fact that she started with Amnesia has made this easier for me at times.
So, now I just have to decide when I make her up Magic or Science Origin (as she's both...as both are involved with her creation)...but I always choose Magic. I just don't care for the sleeping dart origin power.
But it does make me wish I could go dual origin at creation (maybe just so it shows up on the ID and Info screen, but the second one doesn't give you any benefits other than that.
For example, Magic/Science, Magic is first, so I get the magic contact, have to use Magic Origin enhancements, but when people click on my toon, or look at my info, they see Origin: Magic/Science. -
[ QUOTE ]
As a girl player with six different female characters (5 heroic, 1 villainous), I generally design each costume with generous consideration of what each character's philosophy of battle is and their general personality types. For instance, my WP/Dual Blades Tank is all about an unexpected power, a set of blades gracefully wielded; thus, all her costumes are skirts and shirts with Strappy heels. (I've had people comment that with the Dual Blades powers on she looks like a "housewife gone mad," which highly amuses me.) But this look fits her because of her fairly "normal" backstory.
In general, I take a lot of time to flesh out my characters' origin stories because it really seems to help me design my costumes. Guess that's the English major surfacing again! But I do admit to making and dressing each character to be various representatives of "real women's" bodies--no HUGE boobs with teeny-tiny Barbie-sized waist and hips, for instance, and no legs that look like they've been stretched on a medieval rack. XD
But that's just my take on the whole costume debate. It's all a matter of personal taste, I think--however much "skin" you're willing to design for in a costume is part of what you find socially appropriate, attractive, or even simply fitting for each character...no pun intended. ^_^

See that bolded part. I have seen them. In fact my first thought upon seeing them was "OMG! Comicbook superheroes really do exist!"
But no, not the norm.
That said, I can't be the only one who plays this game, and think "This is a world of superheroes. A MMO based off of comic books."
Personally. I hate it when I see "Look at me I'm dressed like a normal person superhero".
Not that I care much for the "Look at me, I'm in a string bikini fighting crime" or "Look at me, I'm in my underwear ladies." type of heroes. Because, usually it's not concept releated to begin with.
But, to use real world reality? Oh yes, for the batman types, cover up those weak points, is part of the superhero world for them.
For the others like Superman, Wonder Woman, ect ect...they don't tend to go around in full armor.
This is still a comic book superhero based MMO, is it not? -
Should of read all the thread first before replying. >.>

I like seeing alternative explanations for powers. I have a villain who has dark powers, but since she's plant-based they're explained as clouds of spores.
You could explain his mutation as being magnetic, but the field he generates is such that it only affects microscopic particles in the air (pollution and impurities). Or his latent mutant genes might have been triggered when he fell into a factory smokestack while working.
[/ QUOTE ]
Same here. Now only if I wasnt called out for Dark Melee being RPed as Reality Shredding.
That said...to the OP, you have the idea of how his powers work for starters, by filler, do you mean something like...
Uncle Died. You could of prevented, not you use your mutant powers as a hero instead of as a celebrity type deal?
Or in how the powers actually work? -

The only positive thing is that I know that when I buy a Booster pack it helps for the development costs so that all players may enjoy other content. However, I think that limiting all the very cool emotes and costume pieces to Booster packs will create a have and have-nots segregation for players that is not conducive to the community. Everyone should be able to enjoy high-collars, labcoats and slick Valkyrie armor.
Frankly, I think it hurts the community when these pieces are not available to the general player. New costume pieces create excitement; limiting them just creates resentment.
[/ QUOTE ]
Very well said. More and more, I feel like I'm playing one of those free-to-play-with-microtransactions MMOs instead of the AAA sub-based MMO I signed up for. The I15 costume pieces compared to the booster pack stuff is a real joke.

They could do what WoW did. Make a gard game, have a rare card with a code to get an item that doesn't really do anything for you but for looks.
Would that make you feel better about it? And WoW has millions of players. Many of them who bought the cards, don't actually play the CCG, but wanted the codes (and certain ones at that)...I know this!
I watched my friends buy them! When I heard about one of them, I was almost tempted to listen to their pleas to join them in WoW. >.> I didn't though! I swear! WoW is sooo boring to me. -

<Insert my sob story about being gone this weekend and getting called away last night and missing my respecs on characters before the patch. Also insert statements of aggravation.>
Why can't granted free respecs stack?

Well, if you still had the free respec from before, why would you need the free one now? -

Oddly enough, I never have trouble getting names. Maybe because my characters actually have names and not actiony phrases or superhero titles. Such as:
Dispari Scuro
Victoria Noir
Tanya Atta
Roxy Phydeaux
Sudona Forte
Itsumi Charr
Riley Tiranis
Of course, I also occasionally use mixes of words or words in other languages, like:
Vicious Mitsu
Xanthos Theta
Ardent Black
Hurricane Lotus
Lithium Fog
Tomatre
Courgette
As long as you avoid cliche and boring names, like naming your Fire/Dark "Burning Shadow," it's easy to get names.
[/ QUOTE ]
Isn't that part of being all superhero-y
Seeing as how I play on Virtue...figure lots of names are taken.
Though just yesterday, I made my FF/Sonic, Space-Runner.
I've used different variance's of BrandX, Brand.X, Brand-X, Brand - X. It's my main, she goes in many different ATs and she's the main one I RP as. Sadly, someone else has Brand X, but I check to see if it's clear pretty regularly.
Spoilsport & Joybuzzer I got after I switched servers to Virtue (was original on Victory), I was suprised.
Dark God, and Dark-God I recently took on Virtue (<.< That's BrandX working hero in the Isles though)
Valkyrie v2.0 I got a few weeks ago.
RaveSpider/Rave-Spider & American-Girl I got after switching to Virtue (I'm mentioning Virtue as it is the 2nd most used server).
I recetly released Card-Trick on Virtue.
Witch-Hunt I got a few weeks back as well.
To the OP: Yes. On Virtue (and Freedom) it's hard to get the names you want, that sound like you'd see in a comic book.
My suggestion. Keep trying. On just the server friend list, I have a list of names on all my toons, just waiting to see if they clear up.Oddly enough, I never do see those names in use, except for once, and havent seen it in use lately.
I sat at the screen for over and hour before I thought of Space-Runner. It takes patience, time and luck. But you'll find the right one soon enough. -
I thank the devs for the fix
I missed not putting in my bios.

Never had this problem with an new issue. And even with a firewall, no problem. Guess I just keep trying to connect. -
Servers say they're up. But I'm not connecting at all the game.
-
Tomorrow I'm rolling a new toon...a FF/Sonic. I'll let you know if I ever hear anything so stupid.
I may or may not be a name dropper >.>

[ QUOTE ]
One of my toons doesn't accept buffs from magic or psi based toons, but that is for concept reasons & I accept my toon dropping due to it. He is a Kat/WP so it isn't like buffs are essential to his survival.
[/ QUOTE ]
Can I ask, why not just go like this.
"No." ((YES!))
Was on an RP TF, had a Plant/Kin, who was passing out herbal energy drinks (Speed Boost). My main said "No thanks." I then said ((YES!!! OF COURSE!!!)) You can say no, and still get the buff.
Really, on a TF like the ITF, would you really turn down a buff that could keep the TF from failing? -

Somebody had an idea for a terrorist villain and wanted to know if screaming "Allah Akhbar!" while popping off self destruct was a petitionable offense. Needless to say, the idea did NOT go over well, with many posters saying that they would petition such in a heartbeat.
[/ QUOTE ]
Truly, epic lulz. I would be more sympathetic if this stereotype were NOT borne out yet again any time one switches on the evening news. Since it happens every day IRL - and often more than once per day - I'm not seeing where the alleged slur is.
Moral of the story: do stupid stuff IRL, open yourself up for lampooning. I fail to see this as some horrific problem demanding immediate game-master action.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't get this whole thing started, Bad, please.

*shrug* The truth hurts...
In other news.... i did some experimenting with the pack on Test. I have to admit, the goggles are Teh Sex. I really like most of those.
The problem is, is that $10.00 worth of like? Because nothing else in this pack makes my hackles stand on end with delight... o well.
[/ QUOTE ]
The height adjuster doesn't make you giddy?
My AR/MM will likely get more play now, as she's suppossed to bebable to go from a 13 old to full adult in certain situations.
And old comic character I came up with (before CoH), can get made almost to full concept (multiple personalities with limited shapeshifting. Different appearance for the 4 alternate personalities.). All I lack is the ability to give every personality a few specific powers to just them, and the ability to play all 5 of them at one time.
But then again, I see more use of this pack than I do of the CYborg pack. Only ever use the cyborg belt from that, and still I think it was worth the money. -
Usually whoever is closest.
Only on my first 50, Justice Girl (Claws/Rergen) as the daughter of Ms. Liberty (through stolen dna), I made it a point to go to her every level.
That said, I still don't think of them as actually training any of my characters. It really just doesn't make sense to me, that they could. -

No more "Fast Katies" or "Speedens", please. If I should be so blessed as to get 10 /tells asking me to join S/TF teams every night, I'd like them to be different ones, not the same one or two over and over and over and over and... *twitch*
[/ QUOTE ]
You won't really find many people running Speedens or KHTFs nowadays. The merit system made the Eden trial worthless except for the badge if you're not going to run it in 15 minutes, and, even then, you're still going to have a hard time finding a team because most people don't think that it's actually worth what little time it takes. The same applies for the KHTF, to a lesser degree.
The problem I have is that most people want to run Speed ITFs nowadays. I'd normally have no problem with this except that 90% of the teams I've been on are in no way actually set up to run the ITF in the appropriate speed manner. I've got no problem actually running a speed ITF if the team is actually built around that specifically (re: 2 kins, 4 shield toons, 2 melee, teams knows how to split into 2 groups effectively), but, if it's a bunch of random people that have been picked up that think it's the new KHTF and run it with about as much knowledge of the game, then it pretty much shaves five minutes off of the time for a normal run, with more deaths and fewer drops, which isn't really worth it imo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heh...I know what you mean. I'll form a ITF and some people will ask me, is it a speed ITF?
I'll reply, "Well, I don't want it to take forever, and I'd love to beat my best time of 1:24, but it'll go as fast as the team can."
I usually get them onto my teams anyways, even when they want to go for speed. -

OP:
What you call morals and values appear to be nothing more than a bigoted, ultra conservative, narrow minded and shallow view on life. And hateful to boot.
Take your 'morals and values', your money and your kids that will certainly grow up warped with you as a parent and go play someplace that we don't have to listen to you.
Thanks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, saying ultra conservative the way you did. Makes you sound like you might have issues with ultra conservatives (not all ultra conservatives have a problem with cross dressers...ect). -

[ QUOTE ]
plz explain more on how standing up for what i believe and keeping morals and values intact
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you for conflating cross-dressing with immorality. That is incredibly bigoted.
Also, you calling someone out on "sexism" and calling troll is comedy gold. For the record, Mulan dressing up as a man (which she did- and by your definition, would that not be cross-dressing?) was because of the limitations of the time period. Yes of course women can be soldiers- they couldn't in China in ~581 AD (I don't know exactly when Mulan is supposed to be set, so if I get that wrong, apologies). You making a sexism argument there is absolutely mindboggling.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmm...donm't know if I'd go that far. To him cross dressing can be immoral.
That does not make him bigoted. -

I dont ever participate because they are all FAKE.
Its always someone hookin up their friend/s.
I play on Virtue, IT IS the Best Server... but CC suck.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey, I've run a total of 3 CC's in my almost 5 years playing. I never rigged mine. -
Tops -> Chest -> Tight
That would be my best guess at the most used costume piece in the game. -
I have two male concepts that use the female builds. One is a cross-dresser (twin sister died...he didn't take it well)...he looks completely feminant. I won't be using the male build on him at all.
My other is the future self of one of my toons (an 11 yearold). He's suppossed to have a more girlish figure, when he grows out of his baby fat. This will allow me to keep a dedicated slot to his future self, and not need to make an alt, everytime I plan to RP him.
Let me explain something. Really...for a teen rating you can mention alot more than CoH will let you (I mean really, have you ever seen an after school special...drugs, sex, incest, [censored], ect...ect.).
Or prime time television. It's Teen rated.
What you don't do, is get EXPLICIT! (Did I spell that right >.>;; I know I could just check that dictionary that's one foot away from me, but...naaaa).
Also, I think what you will find alot of is suddenly people will have their shapeshifters more a reality.
Go watch some PG-13 movies.
Hell, Spaceballs is rated PG and uses the F-word.
