  1. *peers back over the thread* Wow, I sure missed alot of fun by not popping around more often.

As Wassy mentioned there is no cap on the list at the moment, so by all means, DE, submit your request. Wassynator needs to start earning some spending money for NYCC.
  3. Yes, my instructions to the artist were to have Blackthorn trapping Bayani; the artist chose to use the thorns to do that instead of something like vines, sorta like how a Venus Fly Trap captures prey. I figure it was artistic interpretation there.
  4. It's going to get inked. Maybe add some fire effects for Bayani and more thorns on Blackthorn's punching arm. I'll get it colored eventually as well, though I'm still wondering what to do there.

What? No Rogaine in Mother Russia yet?

  6. A new commission added to the Bayani gallery as a part of the Rogues' Gallery project. Blackthorn created by CoH player Thornster. Lines by Kevin Sharpe, of X-treme X-men, Gi Joe, Legion of Superheroes, Army of Darkness, Avengers, Resident Evil, Nova and New Mutants fame.
  7. Well, I wouldn't quite say I'm distinguished, but thanks for the offer, FF. Good luck to all the contestants. I look forward to checking out your entries.

The collection as a whole is a separate discussion from the individual pieces.

The pieces I chose were based on preservation needs and whether or not they fit the decor of the intended room. My living room is rather bright and decorated with warm colors for instance, so I framed this piece...

in a gold-colored metal frame with a "Bayani red" matte. I'm a big fan of the artist and given that he's getting up there in age, I wanted to preserve his pencil work, as his shadows are just really moody and dark. So framing it with preservation glass that protects against UV rays was important as well.

My home office has white walls with modern/black furniture, so decided to frame the picture below along with the original page, which Naka had traded to me. I put it in a black metal frame with double mattes along with a plaque that detailed the comic and the artists who worked on it.

The other notable piece I framed was Sayterra's watercolor painting. I framed that because I needed something to brighten up the work office and because the piece did not physically in my coffee table portfolios, which are sized for convention sketches and full comic pages. I put it in a green wooden based frame since texture and color wise, it matched well with the picture, and made Bayani as well as the flag pop out better.

  11. I keep the best art in 9x12 and 11x17 archival quality albums which are on the coffee table. They're sealed to prevent spill damage. Several pieces were custom framed, matched to the room decor and displayed on various walls and my work office.

  13. A few Valentine's Days ago, I wrote story for a City of Heroes Contest revolving around the theme, "Love". It ended up seeing print and for the longest time, I wanted to get an illustration to go along with it. Many of Bayani's stories draw from personal experiences, and this was probably the most difficult thing I've done in awhile. Only now had I figured out the right sort of composition/layout for the piece. The story's up on Bayani's Virtueverse page and can be located here...

    "Closure"

The artist is Carli Idhe, aka love-the-rain on deviantArt, a talented up-and-coming artist from the Kubert school.

There are alot of non-CoHers who collect art of their original characters too. If I like the characters and if they collect really good art, I'll watch them, my usual reason being that I like see who *they* commission and look into commissioning art of those artists too if the price and quality works. Schwann and Garanmad come to mind.

Agreed the mood of the piece speaks volumes and I like this larger version of the golden shades too. Very cool piece Bayani.
I asked for it. The color of Bayani's flame goes from orange to blue to white as the situation gets more dire. He burns hotter when he's "goes to 11", so to speak.
  17. Vrykon finished the colors to the marker sketch by Rebekah Isaacs. It's a bit darker than alot of the stuff I usually get, but the backlight and the colors really give that "IYou're totally screwed now" vibe from Bayani.

  18. Thanks for all the submissions. Winners have been contacted and references were submitted to the artist. Look for the picture soonish.

I'd run right now, but given her marksmanship it'd mean I'd just die tired.
  21. I'd stick to just...

"... and from the ashes a virtuous angel will arise, wearing a crown of fire and bearing a luminous white star. Her voice is thunderous, striking fear amongst her foes." - (some gobblygook name for scripture)"

    Keep it simple. =P
