In simplest terms, you'll want to unplug the machine and open it up. Then locate your memory and remove all but the one in slot 0. The slots should be marked on the motherboard though the type may be quite small. Hook it back up and run it and see how it performs for awhile. Obviously, less memory will likely cause a drop in overall performance but you're looking for the error so that's a lesser concern. Crash or no, keep swapping memory sticks in slot 0 until you've tested them all. Each run should be until you crash or at least long enough to be reasonably certain one isn't going to happen.

If it crashes on all of them, then memory is probably not the issue. If only one of them causes a crash, then that's likely your problem and it will need replacing.

Well I did say I had no evidence it would help. And apparently by one report, it makes it worse. So, I guess we keep waiting for a real fix.
  3. Well AMD has released the 11.6a hotfix drivers. No evidence at all it fixes anything relating to this but might be worth a try.

    http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...16aHotfix.aspx
  4. Hmm. Wondering then if I should roll mine back as well. I updated to the 11.6s quite recently and the last couple sessions, I've had crash issues exiting missions and one in-mission lockup. The exit crashes it would get to around 75% on the load bar and just stop. Eventually, I just had to force CoH to close and restart the game to continue.
  5. Check your drivers perhaps? I've been running in Praetoria the last couple nights myself and haven't seen anything like that. I've been on Infinity so perhaps it was the server you were on too. If it continues, you might try another server as a test and see if the problem continues there. Also, doing a verify on your CoH files might help. Otherwise, throw it to support and see what they say. Especially if it seems specific to the server you play on.
  6. How about this, allow any player to *respond* to any /tell sent to them? That way at least you don't have to blind invite 'Freeks' if you don't want to. They can't *initiate* any conversations via /tell but at least they can talk back when spoken to. And in conjunction with that, have any invites they send state that they can't initiate such conversations. That way, the blind invite they are forced to send at least excuses it's blind nature and if you're curious to know more, you can /tell to them for more info and they can respond back. Basically sort of an 'opt-in' system for talking to them directly.
  7. An overheat is certainly possible. And really, with those stats, you can run UM cranked to the max with no problem. My system is like that and I run all over Praetoria looking at all the shiny.

Anyways, do you play any other games comparable in graphics to CoH? If you do, it might be woth noting if you can get them to crash too and you might mention what they are here.

Beyond that, you might consider getting CPU-Z and GPU-Z (both are free) and using them to monitor your CPU and video card, particularly when playing. They can tell you what your temps and voltages and such look like under load and perhaps pinpoint any issues there. You might also get a copy of Furmark. It's a free OGL video benchmarking and stress test program for video cards. It would work as a good alternative to loading up the game with CPU-Z and GPU-Z running. In fact, it can probably stress your system much more than CoH can. Try that and see what you get.
  8. Frankly it sounds to me like you may need to take it to a shop and see if they can diagnose the bad part. They should be able to swap parts and test bits in isolation to see what is failing. The other obvioulsy cheaper alternative would be to find a sympathetic friend with a comparable machine who doesn't mind you doing a bit of 'experimenting' to achieve the same effect. And worse(ish) case, keep in mind that you should have manufacturer warranties on all your parts so even if the newegg deadline passes, you still have other avenues of recourse once you know for sure what is wrong. Anyways on the off chance it is a loose connection causing an intermittant fault, I'd actually suggest you basically go through and unplug/disconnect everything you can and then methodically and slowly reconnect/replug everything back together to make sure they are all solid. I suggest this in part as I have seen what absolutely seemed like solid connections to all observation prove to be otherwise and problems vanish upon reseating a card, memory, cable, etc.
  9. I'll suggest redoing your drivers to latest but make sure after uninstalling them you use a driver cleaning program to get rid of all the leftover bits before installing the most recent ones. That should assure that you have a clean set of up-to-date drivers. You might also consider running the game in it's 'safe mode'. This sets it to minimum graphics. It'll look ugly but if that crashes you, something is almost definitely up with your card I'd think. Other ideas would be to try a complete clean install of the game just in case a bad .pigg file is to blame. You could also try monitoring the card with a program like GPU-Z to watch temps and voltages for anomolies. And a program called Furmark is a good OGL (which CoH uses) stress-tester. It will stress your card out and possibly give another point of reference for your crashes if it crashes you too.
  10. Option 1 is fine with me. There may be a few edge cases where keeping the old makes sense but otherwise, go for it.
  11. If it's a return of the old free comic perk, then it's awesomesauce with a side of win. I enjoyed that and it was the most unique perk any MMO has ever done I think.
  12. I'm in love with 10.8. I can FINALLY turn all the eye candy to max and have the max pretteh! FSAA and AO are finally playing nice together! WOOOOOOOO!
  13. well some good news. Looks like they sent the mousepad 2-day air and it's supposedly on a delivery truck to my house. So should have all my goodies at last today. Still, there was definitely some kind of screw-up somewhere for them to not get the game and all it's preorder goodness together in one shipment.
  14. I got mine today and now see the mousepad has tracking like others do. Didn't realize the enhancements weren't already included so I've already made my first toon. But as I just passed the tutorial, I guess he can sit as a name keeper till I can remake whenever I get my goodies. Very poor service on someone's part here.
  15. That should run the game well I'd say. My only quibble/suggestion just to perhaps save $$ is to ditch the second optical drive. Unless you regularly clone CDs and DVDs, I can't figure why you'd really need it. Not a big savings I'd imagine but a few bucks saved is money you can spend elsewhere.

Y'know, there's something eerily familiar about you lady, but I just can't quite put my finger on it

Your system is most likely infected with at least one nasty, probably more (where there's one, there's many).

It doesn't help that he's running Symantec AntiVirus, which is legendary for consuming massive amounts of system resources, and as well as being horribly ineffective at catching anything. I'd recommend uninstalling Symantec AntiVirus (hopefully you don't have to go to their website anymore to download the clearner due to Symantec wanting to leave junk around on your system), and installing some other antivirus software (I personally like Avast! and Microsoft's Security Essentials).
Kinda what I was thinking as well but wanted another opinion.

I'll also bring up this entry from your HJT log:

    O2 - BHO: everyflv - {deec05c7-b799-232e-0513-03066e5187e2} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\_-igyv.dll

I've no idea what that is and the filename just looks suspicious to me. Anyone know what that is?
  20. In the ever-popular words of the Devs: "Soon". They have been working on it, it's just not ready. During the I17 Beta, they actually had a working, if very unsupported, switch to force SLI 'on' in CoH. From what I hear, it didn't improve much but it was a step in that direction. So, have patience.

  22. Well to guage what you should get, what do you need? Are you settled on a CPU? What sort of memory do you have in mind? What kind of drives will you be attaching and what interfaces will they require? That sort of thing. Basically, do you have a plan and what is it? What are your must-have features?
  23. Please post a CoH Helper report and a HiJackThis report. That'll give us a bit more info on what you have.
  24. You may need to go to Support for this one. I'm wondering if it isn't ISP-related somehow.

Good and noted. Have you tried running the game since you removed the optimisers? Have you tried running it without the firewall?
