Blithe admission that poster failed to read past the first page. Self-righteous defense of OP. OP's attackers compared to forum bullies.
Personal anecdote that proves nothing and is outdated by current game mechanics. Followed by backhanded criticism of many of OP's points.
Attempt to avoid feelings of inferiority at the size of other posters post counts by citing X months veteran badges and knowledge of game mechanics from Y levels in Elf Mohawk game. Statement of support for CoX! Followed by criticism of CoX, compared to Elf Mohawk game and tabletop games. Nerdy reference.
Reference to The Eternal Flame War at http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57115 and EFW (Existential Flame War) at http://community.livejournal.com/efw/ and http://efw.dreamwidth.org/4789.html in a bid for elitist nerd status points. -
Well, the PVPers say if they turned on Base Raiding, they could play Repel Ball. I've seen the pictures. Their stadium layout sg base is inspiring, and somehow more intimate than the Arena.
Maybe if they made Arena terminals buyable base items.. -
Quote:Oh, you were the one! (I was cleverly disguised as someone named Ashtoreth.)Mighty, mighty Sands of Mu in eight-part harmony is sweet music to my ears!
Yeah, after you pointed it out, I personally started doing Sands of Mu on purpose, so I could listen to it. Like industrial music! -

Thanks for putting it together!
It was blast seeing everyone's tanks together, and Paladin was the perfect opener.
I'm not sure we made enough tank jokes, though. -
Quote:You're right! Absolutely right!People are not as nice as you think they are. People who struggled or put in the time for a particular reward would be furious (or very angry) that someone who did NOT have to put in the time and effort for the same benefit got it.
People think this way, people act this way, that's what people do.
Changing the system so everyone gets it does NOT work because of human nature. Granted, it wouldn't really effect veterans at all in game play since they already have it, but they were denied access to the rewards at some point, so why doesn't everyone else get the same treatment?
I remember struggling for some doohickey in game that ended up being granted as a reward for some special event and being REALLY peeved over the 'latecomers.'
I didn't quit over it. That is a ridiculous idea to even entertain. (And if you said you would quit, I don't believe you.) The whole point of veterans is that we're *persistently* fond of this game. We are far more likely to keep playing than quit out of pique.
Newcomers are more likely to quit if the game isn't living up to their satisfaction. I don't see anything wrong with allowing them to play with costume options that we didn't have at one time. I don't see wings, boxing shorts, samurai armor, and trenchcoats as special--they just weren't here when we started, thats all.
And to the person telling people to not be 'greedy?' Are you kidding? It is not a privilege to play the game. -
In the star field look, someone suggested paneling the walls with black colored banners turned against the wall so the logo didn't show up.

ignored.
Costume options allow you to play your character day 1 as you think it should look. I make my decision on whether to keep playing MMOs a lot sooner than a year or so. A game with the elitist attitude "someday you'll get those angel wings!" is a bit insulting to me as a paying customer. Comparing it to other MMOs, I put up with WoW for a year, put in my time and grinding to reach the top--so I can fairly say it wasn't worth it and they treated the customers like employees. When the form asked me why I was quitting I put "too much like a second job."
I've been with CoX long enough to get all the vet benefits I cared about, but if I had to start over again? I should be allowed to pay my money and get my costume options. -
Quote:I can turn it ONNot very well. You may be able to turn on one or two UM options at the lowest portions, but your FPS will probably suffer if you turn anything up.
The only way to know for sure is to turn on options and see.
But the only option I get is Shading-low. -
Quote:Oh yeah. It's just necessary to do OOC so often. :/ Joining an RP super/villain group might help.My background is from WoW, where even on servers that nominally enforce RP, there's not always much of it. I'm finding CoH hard to RP in as a hero, simply because it's hard to GET anywhere if I stay in character. Step step kill muggers step step more muggers step step gang step step muggers. I'm this close to seeing whether I can just hand people transit tokens or something so they stop walking around where all the muggers are.
But, just as rp servers in WoW make it difficult to follow your own story arc because they have the official WoW arc that you MUST be railroaded into, CoX has that double. There is so much of the world history that no one in game TELLS you, it's just assumed that you looked it up somewhere. So many 'heroes' who've been intending on turning evil forever...And the best destiny you can end up with is being Statesman/Lord Recluse sidekick. Nothing very grand about it.
Supplementing play with forum stories might help. CoX has a very easy mechanism for screenshots. Also, the teamup mechanics are the best I've seen. -
The idea that people are making "too much money" in AE is ridiculous...
There's a number of guides telling you how to take your level 1 to the market and walk out rich without going near AE. ANY amount of marketeering can make you rich without even trying. It's just boring as hell.
I have trouble telling the difference between 'farming' and regular missions that are boring. Anytime you do a mission for a reason other than the content, you're 'farming.'
The one thing I agree with Plainguy is the Elite Bosses and Archvillains. The regular AE missions don't need them, really. If you think xp farming SHOULD be prevented, removing those would prevent it. This would leave the onus on story content and allow soloers to do them without needing to round up a group. I personally enjoy the stories more when I get to read them myself without being hurried by impatient teammates or never having time to read the mission arc because the leader is zooming to the end.
If the devs feel a story is SO good they make it a dev's choice or hall of fame, then they can up the bosses.
I'm very happy with the ability to use tickets to get rare salvage. I HATE the market. Having an alternative to get salvage is great! They just need to give you the ability to get common salvage as well, and I'd never have to visit the market again, except for buying wings or whatnot.
And may I say that I'd prefer if missions granted wings and things? Or a particular mob always dropped them? -
Quote:(Thank you. I will treasure this analogy forever.)Because, of course, leaving them totally ignorant as to what a Defender really can do for a team that doesn't result in "green numbers" is the best solution evar.
If someone's trying to play baseball and using their face as the bat, would you tell them there's a better way, or just let them "enjoy their playstyle?" Because, frankly, that's what the "need a healer" folks are doing. Making things far more painful for themselves than it has to be, and leaving a mess for others to clean up.
Quote:Originally Posted by DefenestratorOf course, the blasters do a BIT more damage.
I will say that the Trinity is a decent fallback. If you pug a lot, you run into a lot of people who have all kinds of ideas on how to play their toons. Those trollers? Might not have or use their secondaries. That fruit salad may not have slotted his heal so it never recharges in time so he dies faster than a blaster (had this happen this week). That Mastermind may be working on a Catwoman concept, so he's got the whips but no demons!
If you're dealing with strangers, going with the simple formula of Tank = Wall between team and debt, and Fender as Tank Tender, it requires less faith in the skills of others. -
And if they make a game where everyone has the ability to heal themselves AND the possibility of one AT being a dedicated healer, people will consider anything less to be *inefficient* and weak.
It is true that trollers can sub for tanks...but it depends very much on the powerset and skill of the players involved. -

Some people have powers to knock you down (Witches with wind powers), some people have powers to not be knocked down (IOs).
I love the Spider-man reaction idea, though. It would be nice if Acrobatics DID something, instead of simply negating the KB. -
Quote:Well, Bricks is where the prison is, and we know it's like a revolving door.
Fair enough. Maybe it's just my ingame age showing, I think at one point in time i may have been more "excited" about seeing the sights. And i'm sure i'll be eager to "explore" the newer zones coming in GR. But still.. to me, a contact in a zone should have contacts for that zone. It just makes since. Like cops have ares they cover, there jurastiction. Always hit me as both odd and slightly or epicly annoying that the founders fall people were so worried about what was going on in brickstown.. and vice versa.
I remember when I played the PUG Strike Force ae mission. It was so realistic, I almost started typing "TANK TANK WHY DON'T YOU TANK" at an AI bot. -
And I did my first Statesman TF. Recluse iz noob, didju no?

I was wondering if this could be used with Force Bubble, so I searched for what sets FB takes...I can't find anything! I logged into my character and there's no sets listed.
For regular enhancements it only takes End and Recharge. > -
I've been trying out Gizmo's freeware suggestions.
http://www.techsupportalert.com/
So far, I like Avast, Malwarebytes, and Superantispyware. I've also switched to secure DNS servers (there's Google, OpenDNS, Komodo Secure), and Firefox with the Noscript and Web of Trust addons. Web of Trust is a common ratings system though, and warnings about malware sites can be overcome if someone is willing to spam good ratings for it.
If you're really paranoid about spyware sites but go to them anyway, I hear you can use your browser in Sandboxxie while running Returnil--reboot and everything goes away. Sandboxxie slows you down significantly, but Returnil doesn't at all. I've been experimenting with running COH with Returnil on my old Dell and its fine. -
It's a wonderfully fun combo! I love soloing with it on my Corr (DP/Kin)--though I'm feeling the desire for Stamina, since I haven't End slotted well enough before Transference.
Executioner's Shot is my secret love. Wonderful finisher, and the echoing finality of shooting a runner feels like being in a Tarantino movie. -

Well, Recluse has a reason to be badder than everyone except Statesman. As I understand the game story, they opened the world to powers again. So even if your concept is Thor, your power/manifestation/avatar is being routed <b>through</b> those two.
Some of this seems unfixable. You can't make Batman villains and Superman villains without getting two different games. Co* solves this by making everything kind of level.
I can only hope the Incarnate system allows different trees of Uberness. Instead of everyone beating up Mako, fer instance, the Superman wannabe with Incarnate Strength can. The Batman wannabe gets pounded, same as always--and if he's cheated, then he's not a Batman wannabe anymore, is he? He's composite Superman...
