What is a game feature that you never knew existed?
You're right, I remember that now that you mention it. The City of Hero update is what brought us robes and jackets, the so-called "anime-inspired" costume pieces which caused small minds to rant and rave in protest.
I still think the Click-to-Move feature has to have come out later, though. That came with the Free Camera Movement which detaches character orientation from the camera and includes the /cameraturn slash command. I remember playing with those for the very first time on a low-level villain, one of the first I had, which has to have been somewhere around CoV's launch. I recall trying to use camera rotation instead of mouse look to look around, and then binding my character to turn the camera when he started moving so it'd be more like in Prince of Persia (or how White/Black Dwarves move) but that never worked. I don't know, I could have my timing wrong. *edit* You are absolutely correct. According to ParagonWiki, click to move was part of I4. |
I've even taught my 65 year old mother, who is even more physically limited to play in a fashion. She autofollows me and uses the 1-0 keys to attack. That's it.
This game is accessible to the impaired and I love it. Never change it.

I genuinely appreciate the sentiment, but I can't really see how it relates to my post that you quoted, which mostly just discusses when click to move was introduced and whether it was at the same time as free camera movement.

A few things in this thread were new to me, so this is helpful. I have nothing recent to share but here's something small:
AE missions designed by you are saved on your local system. For me on Windows Vista the path is C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\Missions
Each mission is given the .storyarc postfix. But, you can read and revise the file by right clicking and hitting Open With >> Notepad. You can then edit the file in plain text. You can use this to:
- Copy missions whose design is in progress to another computer
- Make small changes to the mission
- Copy elements of the mission over and over (I find this very useful for cloning ambushes and patrols for example, note tahat to make this part work correctly, you must change the DetailName for each event to be different from each other, eg Patrol1, Patrol2, Patrol3, etc)
You have to republish the mission for it to go live (editing the local copy doesnt make it live).
WARNING: Before editing any mission directly, save a backup of it. A small typo could wreck the whole file.
I find click-to-move very helpful. Sorry, I was expanding from there on my train of thought of just how convenient that and the other ease of movement and targeting features are.

A feature the I use all of the time that most either don't know about or have forgotten is the Empowerment table. I can't tell you how many players try to correct me when I say I need to craft a quick empowerment by saying "they're enhancements".
My all time favorite empowerments are the Increase Attack Rate (20% recharge boost), Grant Invisibility (the name is misleading as it gives you stealth rather than allowing you to stealth team mates), and Knockback Protection (in the early levels before acrobatics is available or for when you need to put off taking it for a while). The best part is that they last for an hour ![]() |
It's better (and worse) than that.
Z, by default will cancel any queued powers, so if you suddenly really REALLY don't want to use the power you've got queued, then slap Z and assuming you're in time, it won't activate. However... It will also un-auto any auto powers you may have. Had Hasten on auto-fire? Not any more. Nowadays, to drop out of combat stance, I just hit Esc twice. I don't use auto-fire powers much, but when I do, I want them to stay auto-fire, like mez protection on my Shield/SR toons. |
Layered cake of awesome!

/bind z "powexec_unqueue"
It will unqueue without turning off your auto power.
I've had spacebar bound to this since 2004. It also brings your character out of the (IMO ridiculous) hunched combat pose, so I use it at the conclusion of every fight. I'm kind of OCD like that.

There's a Hero Corps Representative/Fortunata in every zone, and there's a map setting that makes them show up on your minimap. I always thought there was just the one of each, it's so much easier being able to quickly scale the difficulty up for grinding or down for tips/arcs.
Brawl doesn't use any endurance, which is perfect for low level filler attacks on a Brute to build fury.

The game has a bugged "fake combat mode" which you can accidentally get stuck in. Normally, out-of-combat mode has your character stand straight up and look around while combat mode has you hunched over. However, if you're in out-of-combat mode and use a Build Up type power (i.e. a power with that animation) it will put you in combat mode, but keep returning you to your idle stance. This looks very ugly and has the potential to cause your power animations to fail to play.
If you ever catch yourself jolting back to a gromless uninvolved posture in battle, the easiest solution is to hit Escape two or three times to cancel out of any combat mode, then be sure to use a legitimate attack to go back into the proper combat mode.
This only works for powersets with a "regular" activation sequence that doesn't put anything in or on your hands.

6 years playing, just found out about a month ago that V + Click moves you to the location you click. Not that I care really, since I prefer WASD and clicking powers.

I need out.
You can turn in on perma in the options menu (and in such cases, holding V suspends click to move).

I had assumed that because... no other games allowed for crazy stuff like that to stack!

Beware, though: don't use Grant Invisibility if you're soloing "rescue the hostage" missions (which show up in radio/newspaper a lot). You'll need to find a buddy to help or wait out the hour for it to expire.

Correct. And you can only use the Empowerment Station in your own base. When they changed storage items so that only SG members could look inside them (Because there was an exploit that let visitors to your base steal from the bins), it also blocked visitors from using any other base items except the crafting table, and possibly the vault.
