Rerolling a 50 is not an option to me. Character attachment is way too large for that.
When new powersets arrive that match what I actually wanted for character concept, I prefer to make a sibling. For instance, Sonja Johnson is my Martial Arts stalker, and if I actually wanted something like Street Justice, which is now available, I would roll a new stalker with that powerset, and call her Anna Johnson or something. That way, even if I rarely play Sonja in the future, I have a sibling relationship in my character lore.
If I would run out of slots, and have no experimental discontinued lowbie, I would buy more slots instead of deleting a lvl 50.
Considering he's a issue 5 brute and finally has the MoLRSF and Immortal Badges...No No No oh Hell No :P
Tbh even we could keep the badges after a restart i still wouldn't tbh. i love stone melee and invul Can't see what i would even replace em with.
Why should I reroll? I'm perfect!
My main got put aside (mostly) a while ago. Ever since Instant Healing got changed from a toggle to a click. I keep meaning to reroll him, but whenever I contemplate it I can't decide what to reroll him as. Willpower would be the most natural choice, but I find myself contemplating Super Reflexes as well. And I'm not sure I want to stick with Martial Arts, either - Kinetic Melee, Street Justice, and soon Staff Fighting are all possible choices. Not to mention a change of AT might be in order.
My first toon/main was an energy/energy blaster, however my first 50 was my ninja/dark MM and namesake that became my main, and a couple years after that I made a fire/kin troller that became my main and I also deleted my first toon around then as well.
If I could do it all over again I would never had made an energy blaster or an MM in the first place lol.
I've rerolled, with a different name..
Martial Arts/Regeneration scrapper named "Lord Tsarian" sat unused in his 30s when I rolled a...
Stone/Stone tank named "Maelstone" who got deleted due to lack of damage for a...
Stone/Stone brute named "Maelstone" who became my first 50 to be replaced with...
Fire/Cold corruptor named "Evaluate" who is now my main.
Maelstone is now being stripped down to fuel "Scarlet Stinger", my TW/Elec brute who I really enjoy playing far more than a Stone/Stone. But I can't strip him down until I become VIP so I can store my IOs .. ::grumblegrumble::
Funnily enough, Alpha wasn't always my namesake. That honour goes to Chief Centurion Z1.
Who has put up with more bad slotting, respecs and bad re-rolls than is honestly fair. Fortunately, after a bad spate as Shield/Elec and then Inv/Elec he is now back to his former glory as an awesome-sauce Invul/Energy Tanker. And the Cardiac slot has finally taken care of the endurance problems he used to have
Been to 50 twice with him now, hehe
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Nope. Considering he has badges that are now impossible to get, I can't imagine ever rerolling him.

My reply in this thread prompted me to finally get around to re-rolling Tenzhi. I don't exactly regret it, but reclaiming level 38 seems so far away...
Never, and it is the reason I have to buy more slots for all my alts.
Fire Chief was my first 50 a fire/nrg Blaster rolled him issue 1 and like alot of folks here he has badges that can't be replaced sooooooo...to answer the OP...yes I have re-rolled but have moved him to another server and made the "new" Fire Chief a shield wielding fire scrapper just fell in love with the elemental shield and even came up with a "new" background story and proceeded to take him to 50 also. I do have the name on other servers but I never got them anywhere in lvls.
I have Mental Maden FF/Psi defender and Mental Maden2 Mind/Sonic controller. It wasn't a reroll in the sense the 2nd one is now my main or that character improved. They both exist and the original is still my blueside main.
I've rerolled a few times.. And I'll reroll again when/if they bring out the ability to make a Pistols/Regen so I can actually complete my main I just ask if people can help me level is all if I don't have the heart to do it heh
Many many times!
I never deleted the ones that made it to 50, but I'll rename them (usually a variant of BrandX or her civvie name) or move the character to a different server.
I've done it out of boredom with a powerset (Scrapper version of WP), or thinking maybe I should go a different route with her abilities. Also done it because a change to the set just annoyed the hell out of me, or a set didn't play as well as I hoped (and that's pretty sad when I don't hope for that much)
Nope, my main, MrCaptainMan, en/en/fire Blaster, is fine the way he is
Although I only really refer to him as my main since he's my badge-toon as well as my first rolled character.

She was about the 2nd or 3rd character I made the first night I'd bought the game way back Aug 2004. A few days later when she was like level 8 I'd noticed that I'd spelled Maiden wrong. The idea of rerolling and redoing all 8 levels just seemed crazy (after all that "hard" work) and at the time there wasn't a name change option. So I just kept it that way because at the time I was just getting used to the game and wasn't sure if I'd even keep the character and low and behold it ended up my main and namesake.
When they did finally make name change an option (after she'd hit 50) there was a Mental Maiden on the server, so I couldn't change it now anyway. And after time it just stuck, became my in-game name and forum name. A stupid spelling error; that's all. |
Nope. Never felt compelled to.
Something that helps me here is that I never create a character trying to meet some external concept using in-game powersets. All of my characters are created specifically as whatever powersets and ATs they are at character creation. I decide I want to try, say, a Kin/WP Scrapper, or a Dark/Dark Defender, and create a character whose origin and backstory fit that, not the other way around. This means I pretty much never feel compelled to re-roll someone because new powersets come out that better match their concept.
That and the notion that I don't level something all the way to 50 unless I enjoy it a lot means my characters are pretty stable.
Reroll. If offered the opportunity to start over with my first character, 'Knight of Khonsu,' I would jump at it, even if it means giving up everything I have received. I did not know the game when I started him. I foolishly picked SR with Dark Melee. If I had the opportunity, I would drop SR for Dark Armor in a nanosecond!

People still have a "main"?
Why?
Any character I don't fall in love with is deleted, and any powerset I dislike is rerolled to something I like better. It's not any big deal, though occasionally annoying to re-do the same content for badges. It's just what you do as a part of normal CoX gameplay.... isn't it?
Do your other characters resent the "Main"? Are people aware that they are are going to make their less loved characters undergo years of therapy to undo this kind of damage? If you can't love them all, don't have them! It's cruel!
And does everyone rank their characters in terms of good, better, "Main"? Or "Lieutenant-General Main" or "Vice Main" or "First Runner-Up Main" (in case the "Main" cannot perform his/her duties)?
Whole concept befuddles me.
