ANOTHER Melee set?

So I hear that Staff Melee is coming soon. I like new powersets so, in some ways, it is not a complaint. I just wonder why another melee set (it is melee, right?) is what we need. TW is still new. Why not another armor(yes, melee, too, but not weapon)? Why not another troller set?

Actually, there will be another new control set before Staff Fighting, that being Darkness Control, which is coming with i22 (Staff Fighting was confirmed as being after i22 hits). And along with Darkness Control, there will be the newly proliferated/modified Darkness Affinity (buff/debuff for Controllers) and Dark Assault.

Great. Awesome to know. Hadn't heard about this.

I was pleased to hear about the new Controller set (sounds cool) but I think Staff Mastery will be good too. It may be the last Melee set for a while though as the Devs are running out of new and unique ways to beat people up (a-hem...arrest them) in close combat. Street Justice has a new mechanic (which I like) and so does Titan Weapons (my personal jury is still out on this one).

Oersonally, I'd like to see another Defensive set, another Armor set and then some Blaster secondaries. The various Primaries are cool but the selection of secondaries is a bit dated. Even if it just meant more Powerset Proliferation it would be nice.

Regardless, I love new sets so keep up the good work!

Serious question--not picking on you, do they still call it "arresting" baddies. I know when I started in i3 that was the big joke, but lately it seems like there is a lot of killing (SSA, for example) without the arresting caveat. So I was curious.

For the most part, these days they seem to leave it to us to decide what exactly we're doing to the bad guys we beat, except in a few cases when it's explicitly spelled out (say, in vigilante-to-villain tip missions, where they come right out and say you're killing people).

I'm sure the official line is still "arresting" just to maintain a T rating, but realistically, the approach seems to be "whatever you want to think is happening after you defeat them."

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

The in-game term is "defeat," and they do indeed leave it to you to decide if you're arresting, killing, or KOing them. Still, when story purposes call for it, they don't have any problem invoking the fiction of enemies being mediported out.

It depends on side and mission. For example, the end of the new level 1-5 story arc for villains specifically has you disable the medical teleporter so the longbow you fight in the base will die.

Blasters are in dire need of more secondaries... still...

I hope secondaries are being looked at as the next round of powers to be created.

Even with Darkness Control and Assault, Doms will still be behind as far as power choices go; they didn't even get anything proliferated in the last round which was truly obnoxious.

I don't know about everyone else but with me it depends on the character. My Tanker Crimson Atom arrests bad guys. My Blaster that carries the Assault Rifle? Well...

I'm the same way; my claws/fire brute? I kind of assume most people he "defeats" don't survive. My empathy/psychic defender? She KOs them and leaves them for the police. My illusion/time controller? He doesn't leave a mark on them, unless you count the psychological scars.

And they're one of only two getting anything proliferated this round. Call foul on the Controllers, I guess, but they're almost out of options anyway at this point.

Going further to show that it depends on the character, My Claws/Ele Brute arrests instead of killing. He uses energy claws that he developed a variable density control for. So he can change the density such that it phases through you, making you very sick but ultimately unharmed.

Another reason I love this game.
