Apologies for my weak search-fu. I have managed to interest a friend and his fiancee in CoH. He will be F2P and she will be premium. I have a few questions.

1. What's the best way to install the game? I'm bringing over my up to date copy and the NCsoft launcher on a flash drive. How do I do the install so that the launcher doesn't try a fresh download?

2. I gave her the Architect Edition box set as a birthday gift some time ago. Will that box set alone allow her to use AE?

this is a no, i think the only way to be able to use AE and get rewards from it is through the paragon rewards stuff (there used to be an architect lisence on the paragon market, but i heard that it was not there anymore)

1- Run the launcher so that it creates the necessary directories and let it run for a few minutes. Stop the launcher then delete everything inside the directory it created. Copy all of the files from your flashdrive into the directory. If there is a checksum file, delete it. (I don't know if this matters anymore with the new launcher but with the old one you were recommended to that). Run the launcher again and it should verify the files.

2- According to: http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/about_...cho.php#tabs-4 the only way to get AE access is to unlock via Paragon Rewards or have a VIP subscription.

AE was not a feature of that box. It was advertised by the box, but the real "feature" was the free booster.

Thanks for all the replies! He is now happily killing Longbow in Mercy. Only adjustment we had to make was to adjust the graphics to absolute minimum due to his system.

That really annoys me, too. You can buy it as a free player, meaning one month of access, but after that (since you're a premium) you can not get it again unless you spend a LOT more money.

Wait, you are saying a Free player can purchase the AE License, but Premiums can't? That can't be WAI.

The 30-day licenses (AE, Market and IO) are meant to be repurchaseable. If they can only be purchased once, that is a bug, and should be reported as such.

This is what I've heard from others. I do not have a purely free account to test it. Actually, I may have an old trial... I'll have to look and see.

It's impossible for a free player to purchase anything - as soon as they buy points to use in the store, they're Premium.

Install the NCsoft Launcher.
Copy the game directory to where you want the game to be.
Choose to install CoH from the launcher, use 'customise' to point it to the game directory you copied.

As people said, AE access is unrelated to that edition. However, all Premium players can play on AE (but with rewards only from reward level 4 or by buying a license), and all players (including Free players) can create and test stories, and even get badges while testing them (but only publish them if they're at reward level 6 or by buying a license).

Found the login information for an old trial account and no, MA License does not appear for free toons in the market.

That wasn't meant as nit-picking; it was stated earlier in the thread (or at least how I understood it) that free accounts could see the AE license in the store, but premiums couldn't. Therefore, once someone bought the points to buy the license, the license *would no longer be available*.

I may be mis-interpreting, but I was, in fact, trying to be helpful.

In other words, working as intended.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
