Lag Issues

I recently reinstalled the game again after the last free weekend and I've been getting some pretty crazy lag. I've tried turning everything all the way down, lowering the resolution, and turning the sound off but nothing seems to matter. I am also getting a message now on the login screen saying that my drivers aren't up to date, even though I have fully updated them twice.

It's not letting me post my dxdiag for some reason, so what could I offer up to help get this issue solved?

The boards aren't?

That's quite strange.

See if you can e-mail them to hyperstrike@cox-supergroups.com.

Also, try doing a repair (consistency check) and then defrag your hard drive (or if you're using a slightly smarter defragger, just defrag all the files in your CoH directory).

NOTE: If you're using an SSD for your CoH drive, do NOT defrag. There's no point.

Yeah, the boards give me some odd message saying that there's too many odd characters in my post or some nonsense.

E-mailing you the dxdiag now.

I wonder if, whenever they last fiddled with the boards, they screwed something up.

I tried posting a message the other night with a few hyperlinks in them and the board absolutely REFUSED to post until I removed the hyperlinks wholesale.

***Addendum***

Yeah. For some reason I can't post a dxdiag either.

It's possible.

Did you get my email with my dxdiag though? I'd really like some help on this issue.

As a small update to it, it also seems that I'm getting some pretty bad graphics tearing even with everything turned down to the absolute lowest. I was just in the RWZ, and the Mothership looked like it was made of windows from nearby buildings. I'm thinking that by updating my drivers, I somehow screwed something up.

yeah. Got your e-mail.

How did you obtain the dxdiag? Did you go through dxdiag straight? Or did you use CoH Helper?

Because posting a raw dxdiag dump results in a failed post/preview.
But the one I just generated from CoH Helper went thru fine.

Also, digging through the slightly less organized (due to mail chopping columns short). Noticed your graphics driver is out of date (your drivers are 2 years old).

You're playing on a laptop on a Radeon 3100 with 256MB of dedicated RAM which is also stealing about 640MB of system RAM.

I used the normal dxdiag, so that's likely what happened. Here's the one from the helper if it makes a difference.

Please see that I amended my last post.

Try a driver update. You may simply be dealing with breakage from various and sundry graphical updates that have finally ganged up on your 2 year old drivers.

I've updated twice now, both with the most recent updates that I can manage to get a link to. Every time I do it, it gets even worse.

If you could provide me with a link to the exact updates I need I would greatly appreciate it, as I'm clearly not updating the correct one.

Update: I checked and I can't seem to find any driver updates for Windows 7 past the 2009 one that I have, but there's one for Windows Vista that is from 2011. What do I do?

-sigh-

This is not making any sense. I tried the 11.5 version and it says that I am already up to date, so I have no idea what's going on here.

Edit: Ok, so I managed to get it installed (11.5) and the game still says I'm out of date. I even played the game for about 10 minutes before I got a new error that my drivers had completely failed and the game crashed.

Edit 2: I ran my dxdiag again and it's still saying that my most recent update is the one from 2009. What the heck is going on here, seriously.

Have you tried uninstalling the previous drivers first?

Texas Justice has a post detailing the best way to uninstall drivers and re-install. It is right here. (Ignore the link for the drivers to download, as that was for another person.)

Not only did this not work, but it has completely murdered my computer. I can't increase my resolution past 1024 x768 anymore, everything lags when I scroll down a page, and the game runs even worse now.

Help!

Update: I managed to restore my previous settings, but now I'm back at square 1 with the 2009 update. I'm starting to think that this isn't possible to update. =\

Are you selecting and downloading the "Notebook Graphics"/mobility drivers? The normal desktop drivers may not install properly on your laptop.

If you mean this;

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...-Bit%20Edition

Then yes, that's what I currently have installed. However, it's still telling me that my last driver update was in 2009 and CoH still tells me that I'm out of date.

Edit 2:
Picture of graphical issues.

It's getting to the point to where I'm almost afraid to play the game now. I'm getting tears and discolorations like this more and more now.

Can someone PLEASE help? ;_;

Edit 3: HOW DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE!?

Picture of driver update and CoH message.

Forgive the double post, but can no one else help?

Edit 1: Really guys? No one. =\

Sin, this makes me curious..
Texture LOD Bias: Crisp
shouldn't it be set to smooth?
Also, even though I have an Nvidia card, whenever I upload a new driver I always use a driver cleaner first to remove all traces of the old to avoid conflicts. This one is free, but I bought Driver Cleaner Pro for $9.99 a while back:
Free driver cleaner
I always clean out temp files, etc and close unnecessary background crud before I log into the game. I also always defrag right after a patch. (CCleaner and Defraggler are my favorite tools for that, free also.)
If I experience lag in the game (rarely) I type /reloadgfx the /sync and that usually helps.
I sure wish I could help you, Sin. My old puter seems to work better with CoH than some new shiny ones...I'd like to think it's due in part by the way I maintain it. Good luck and above all, don't give up!!! You will solve it.

I tried cleaning the drivers like you suggested and running the CCleaner, then reupdating with the 11.6 update earlier in this topic, but it's still saying that my last update was in 2009 and CoH is still saying that my drivers are outdated, although trying to update through the Device Manager still tells me that I'm up to date.

Did you do the updates and driver cleaner in safe mode?

Also did you cancel out of the driver detection routine when rebooting Windows?

1: Reduce your resolution to 800x600
2: Uninstall your drivers
3: Reboot in safe mode
4: When the driver detection for your video card comes up, cancel out of it.
5: Run the driver cleaner.
6: Run the new driver install.

I tried that as well, and it's still saying that my last update was in 2009 and my CoH still says that I'm outdated.

Is there some kind of bullcrap error with my video card or something, because this is just getting EXTREMELY stupid.

Outdated simply means the game thinks the drivers are old based on date, not capabilities.

Aside, not directed an SinOfEnvy, but why do so many gamers need to upgrade their drivers every single time they are released if they are already working for the games you play? You all don't seem to understand that 90% of a new drivers purpose is to squeeze that extra 1/2 fps out of whatever the latest game sites are using to benchmark and if that driver messes up an older game, pphhhtt, who cares, the important review sites aren't using that game to benchmark cards anymore. 5% of the time a new driver is out to support a new video card/GPU and the other 5% are actual bug fixes.

I can't speak for others, but mine updated without my knowing through a Windows Update.

Ever since then though, I have been getting that outdated message and the game has been running like crap for me when I do anything that doesn't involve just me soloing.

To a certain point, I agree.

However, in this case, we're talking about something NOT working. And one of the standard troubleshooting steps in cases like this is to attempt to update the drivers to see if that alleviates the issue.
