stone/elec brute:help with build

I currently have this brute at 47 and want to make sure I don't waste monies with unnecessary sets. My goal here was primarily perma hasten, with the spiritual core paragon boost and set bonuses. The secondary goal, as with any brute, was more smash. I currently have him set to work on the reactive radial flawless but was considering the reactive core flawless because of the higher resists to his damage type. I currently don't have any defense and only IOs in his resists, mainly depending on the barrier core epiphany to assist with that, as well as the occasional purple. I would prefer one or two more recharge slots in Power Surge, but with all the global recharge going on one could work, would certainly be better than he was.

I realize his defense could be much better with sets in the resist toggles, a gladiator 3% on grounded, weave possibly replacing tremor since i hate the long animation time on that attack and holding a lotg recharge, as well as replacing recall friend with combat jumping also holding a lotg recharge. This was one of the other possible setups I was considering with this brute.

Any input from other min/max types on here would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for your time.

A Gladiator 3% defense IO will cost 2-3 billion INF. A Steadfast Protection 3% defense costs far less than 100 million. It was 20 million last time I checked the market. Definitely slot one if you build for defense.

Your build has zero defense in it. Enemies have a base to-hit chance of 50% and a minimum hit chance of 5%. The closer you get to 45% defense, the less damage you take. It gets to the point where a small increase in defense means a large decrease in damage taken, which is why you see so many builds with people chasing defense bonuses.

Gaining 45% defense means you take 10% of the damage that would have been dealt to you if you had 0% defense. This is basically like getting 90% resistance to a category. Brutes lack the ability to get to 90% resistance in more than their set's specialty, so it is much more effective to build for defense.

My suggestion is to aim for 32.5% defense. That puts you one small inspiration away from the soft-cap. Since you seem to want more offense, your defenses should be focused on S/L and E/N. You could go for melee+ranged+ AoE, but that takes more slots and leaves you with less slots for recharge bonuses. Weave and Combat Jumping are a good start to a defense build. Maneuvers can save you some slots on set bonuses if you have the endurance to run it. On an Electric Armor build, Energize should help you manage endurance well enough to run Maneuvers.

You're capped on 5% rech bonuses, you got 6.

Mine's 40, work in progress but I'm almost up to the 32.5% def for the 1-purp softcap in the planned build (since I have almost no defences now I took power surge instead of weave and I'm enjoying it, I may rework that):

Here's my own build. Went with fire epic, due to theme, but mechanically, that dark pool is looking nice!

Note, I haven't gotten to play the build yet, it's only about half slotted, but man, Stone/Elec is sweet!

One question, if anybody looks at it. Is it worth the minimal defense loss to swap the Touch of death from Seismic for Hecatomb?

I'm on my phone and didn't look at your def numbers but you want SS to recharge as fast as possible especially since you've only got 26% bonus rech from what I can see.

Also Fault's base acc is lower than usual iirc, so you want to slot some acc there.
