Dark Armor's best mitigation is its fantastic heal. It'll fix just about any damage in a crowd. They have to kill you before it recharges again or they'll never do it. The sooner it's up, the less time they have to kill you, the tougher you are.
Hence the recommendations for Hasten.

Just remember to take into account extra endurance concerns if you pick up hasten. I've personally found I performed better without it.
Also keep in mind that you don't necessarily have to put Hasten on autofire if you do take it. Up until I got my Cardiac alpha, I would usually run without Hasten on auto so that I could use it defensively to offset any recharge debuffs.

I actually thought more about the SS part - SS attack chain is slow until you get Gloom (or IO the build), Dark Regen is up enough that I don't find it troublesome to go without Hasten. The main reason I took Hasten on my Dm/Da scrapper was for Soul Drain.
My two cents regarding DA and Hasten:
I've never thought I needed hasten from a survivability standpoint. My tank doesn't have hasten even. Of course, I build my DA characters pretty heavy on defense, so they rarely need Dark Regen in the first place.
I think of Hasten as an offensive tool only. My Claws/DA brute did take hasten, but that's just because I want more Spins, Eviscerates, and Shockwaves. Particularly Shockwave. That is an amazing power.
