Uh oh, game is unplayable
It's doubtful that it's the .pigg files. Training Room working likely is irrelevant since both Live and TR have their own graphics settings in the registry and they could be different.
The best thing to do would be to post the output from CoH Helper and possibly a HiJackThis log.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
I've determined it was probably something to do with the memory of my computer rather than CoX itself, as it works now and I didn't do anything.

So, really, you haven't determined anything. That's the worst type of computer problem - the one that goes away on its own. You never know when/if it will come back.
Paragon City Search And Rescue
The Mentor Project
So I just got back from school for the summer, which means I've got my good desktop computer back instead of the laptop that constantly overheats. Having been away for months, I had to update my client, including the NC launcher which wasn't installed yet. I got my game updated, it says "Ready To Play," and I can get as far as server selection before things shoot to hell - I click on a server, and receive a black screen. The game window can still be resized, and even more notably I can still click on the screen and it responds with sound effects depending on where my invisible cursor lands in its giant black field, so this suggests something is up with graphics. This has not ever been a problem on this machine before - prior to today, it ran Ultra Mode no problem, so I think something has gone wrong with my .pigg files when they were being downloaded.
How can I fix this?
EDIT: Training Room works fine, in case it's relevant.
