Nobody in the City wants to talk to me

Ello Devs and players and whatnot,
I started playing CoH at release and loved it etc, played for couple years and went off do do other things, had a couple of times I came back to play with friends a bit etc. I've updated my computer, but not since the last time I successfully played late last year; my OS machine and parts are all the same. I used to run everything on ultra, can't touch some settings now without crashing, that's whatever. Doesn't need to look shiney or anything. Per some old buddies' requests I tried to get back into it this week. But for some reason (after my lengthy battle to even get it running again after installing via the launcher,) when I load in now and try to talk to an npc, (store, mission, etc,) their dialog window starts to pop up and then i freeze. Stay that way forever.

Can't really play if I can't talk to anyone. I've tried loading in safe mode, lowest gfx settings (though I don't really see where the two would relate), yadda yadda. Nothing's working.

So I looked around for similar problems, didn't see any similarities to PC problems and figured I'd see if there were any solutions to be had. If not, eh. Guess I won't be playing.

Anything show up in Event Viewer? (Driver crash, etc?) Typically under System, but sometimes Application.

Had it happen not long ago myself after a driver update (in place.) Ended up removing the driver, running driver cleaner in safe mode and reinstalling the video driver - worked fine after that (and so did C&C3, whichw as worse - no maps showed at all.)

Nothing was in event viewer, went ahead and rolled back/cleaned/updated drivers again, with no result.

Please follow the instructions in Hyperstrike's [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums thread that is stickied in this forum.

That will give those of us with technical knowledge most of the necessary knowledge to begin to try to assist you, which is much better than just throwing out random suggestions with nothing to base it on.

I can't help, but one of my friends has the exact same problem as you do, you're not alone. He's not fluent in english so he can't post here.

Honestly, it sounds like one or more of your drivers may not be up to date.
Also, are you running any Stardock software to modify how your desktop looks? If so, try disabling it.

Will be able to tell you more once we see your logfiles.
