Lookin at two new PC's
NO, NO, NO...get this and get it with the 2GB video card:

I'd go with the i7, and see if you can get it configured a lil cheaper, with less ram and maybe a smaller HD. 12 gigs is a little overkill atm, imho. Onboard sound is fine for most setups unless your running a 5.1 speaker setup, but if it's important to you, go for it. GL and hope you enjoy your new system!
Thanks but I dont want a laptop.
I tried to configure it for a little less but it seems I am better of just getting the top end one. The only savings is for the one with the AMD chipset and I really know anything about AMD. One of my thoughts is that anything I get will be better than what I am using now, so maybe I save a few hundred bucks. Then the other part of my brain says the other system is more than you need so it is a little future proofed, if anything.

Graphics cards are everything today. Everything else on a computer is sufficient today to run CoH. Good luck with your decision. Also, it's not a laptop but a mobile workstation. Understand the difference?

Mobile workstation: An outsized laptop (for an outsized lap) that isn't meant as a mobile computing platform as it sucks too much battery life, and is intended to mostly be used plugged in.
It doesn't mean "laptop built with desktop components". It's still built using the LV mobile varieties of processor, memory, video, etc and is not in the same class as a workstation built with the desktop versions of the equivalent model numbers.
The old classifications of:
Desktop: Low-end CPU and a little RAM
Workstation: More powerful CPU and more RAM
Server: High-end CPU and lots of RAM
They don't hold up much anymore. Even low-end machines are phenomenally powerful nowadays and most of the difference is in how they're used rather than a specific component list.

that looks like a great mobile workstation but I really dont want to play on a "laptop" the specs look good however I am really more interested in a decktop PC.
Im just trying to figure out what the best deal is. I tried configuring it lower but it wasnt worth it. Im looking at one other but I dont think I can configure it so that its a good deal. Either Option one is better because its cheaper or Option 2 is better because it packs more punch

Dunno what your price or time constraints are, but these two links may help ya save a little money.

I bought my last system off newegg. Got a great deal on a refurb i7 920 Asus system, so check there as well.
Thanks I did already find two of those Dell Couppns which will give me free shipping and another 100.00 off. Im still just debating what to do. I tried upgrading one other offer. It wasnt worth it. Im gonna check the refurbs !

Laptops, not significantly upgradeable.
Desktops, usually more so than laptops.
Big difference Res10x.

Now for the OP. Now I'm assuming the Studio XPS 7100 is the AMD system and the Studio XPS 9100 is the i7-930 system. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Both should be able to do Ultramode reasonably well since it's the same video card between the two. Of the two CPUs, the Intel does perform better when gaming. For a single instance of the game, 4GB of memory is enough so 8 or 12GB is plenty.
The 7100 is a microATX tower case with a rear fan and can fit two hard drives. The 9100 has both a front and rear fan and can also support two hard drives.
So it's up to you. It sounds like you rather go with the Intel system.

Father Xmas you are 100% correct. In all honesty I dont have a preference because anything I get will be better than what I have now. I just really dont know about AMD chips. I have heard they are good ( not as good as Intel) but function very well.
I mostly game and browse the web and email. I dont run a lot of apps or do video editing. Een my games I mostly play CoH, RTS games ( which I love ) and I want to play the Star Wars MMO when it comes out. Thats pretty much all I am going to do.
I was a little concerned about the small case and heating up because I will play for a lot of hours at a time. I am seeing some XPS 9100's in the certified refurbished area which are lower in price and I can get a monitor anywhere. They even have a few certifies refurbished ones as well. Thats one way I can save some money.
CNET reviewed the 7100 and gave it pretty good marks for a mid range gaming system.

they are Dell's but the pricing is pretty good and I can get financing for them.
I am looking at two options. Here are some of the basics.
Option 1
Its an AMD 1075 chipset and Ati HD 5870 graphics card w/ 1gb on the card
8GB3 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
1.5 TB hardrive
The second is a i7-930 same graphics card but has 12mb of Ram and a 2tB HARD drive. This comes with a much better sound
Both are dual drive Blu Ray and Dvd Rewriteable drive.
The main issue I have is that the AMD one isnt really expandable and because of the mini tower I am a little concerned about heat buid up.
The second one is a full sized case and it has a Intel chipset and more Ram. It will be about 350.00 more. It has enough space to add a second hard drive and more Ram as well. Also has a much better sound card ( not the one on the motherboard )
Basically I play CoH a lot and would like to play it with less lag and at least run Ultra mode a little. Also I want to make sure I will be able to play that new famous name Sci-Fi with the glowy swords when it releases.
Im not going to build my own.
