BlissfulChaos

Over double XP weekend I wanted to try a Brute. I was always told that EA sucks so I decided I needed to see if it was really as bad as most people said. Personally, I don't think it is all that bad and I have been able to solo pretty easily since I got SOs (been running at +1, x2). This is one of my favorite characters to play at the moment and, although I tend to solo more, he usually does just fine on teams. Only problem he really has is heavy hitting Psi mobs (I loathe fighting Arachnos with him lol). I'm about to hit lv.45 with him so i'm looking into some IO sets to soft cap him (I already have the +3% Defense IO). My problem is that I play on a Mac so I don't have my wonderful Mids' Designer anymore. I just threw a build together by using Wentworth's to get all the values and trying to calculate everything on paper, definitely not as easy as using Mids' lol. So, I was just looking at some feedback for this build I came up with. Thanks for any help.

Lv.1: Quick Strike (Kinetic Combat x4)
-------Kinetic Shield (Luck of the Gambler x4)
Lv.2: Body Blow (Touch of Death x6)
Lv.4: Smashing Blow (Mako x6)
Lv.6: Power Shield (Luck of the Gambler x4)
Lv.8: Power Siphon (2 Rech. IOs)
Lv.10: Entropy Shield (1 End. Red. IO)
Lv.12: Combat Jumping (1 Def. Buff IO)
Lv.14: Super Jump (1 Jump IO)
Lv.16: Dampening Field (Steadfast +3% Def IO)
Lv.18: Burst (Scirocco x6)
Lv.20: Energy Cloak (Luck of the Gambler x4)
Lv.22: Boxing (Mako x6)
Lv.24: Tough (Aegis x5)
Lv.26: Focused Burst (Devastation x6)
Lv.28: Energy Drain (Numina x6)
Lv.30: Weave (Luck of the Gambler x4)
Lv.32: Concentrated Strike (Touch of Death x6)
Lv.35: Taunt (Perfect Zinger x6)
Lv.38: Overload (1 Heal IO)
Lv.41: Superior Conditioning (1 End. Mod. IO)
Lv.44: Physical Perfection (1 End. Mod. IO)
Lv.47: Energy Torrent (Positron's Blast x5)
Lv.49: Hasten (3 Rech. IOs)

Health (1 Heal IO)
Stamina (2 End. Mod IOs)

TOTAL DEFENSE (including set bonuses):
Sm./Le: ~47.58%
Fire/Cold: ~46.73%
Energy: ~49.025%
Neg. Energy: ~39.055%
Psi: ~24%

Other Set Bonuses:
+16.88% Max Health
+8.55% Immob. Res.
+12.35% Hold Res.
+74% Regen. (I believe I have 1 wasted 10% regen. bonus)
+45% Accuracy (also have 1 wasted 9% accuracy bonus)
+11.25% Recharge
+13.5% Damage
+2.5% Recovery
3.13% En/Neg.En. Res.
1.58% Fire/Cold Res.

Notes: I had no idea how to IO Energy Drain, I just tossed Numina in there for the +1.875% En/NE defense bonus.(Also, this is kind of a concept character so I'm keeping with Energy Mastery. Although I know EA has more than enough End. Management tools I just like the theme of all energy sets)(Oh, and the numbers in the parenthesis are just how many pieces of the set that I was planning on putting into the power)

Thanks for any help!

Slot Kinetic Combats in your first five melee powers to softcap to S/L. THEN go for recharge.

This is my take on your build. S/L/E/F/C are all 48% or higher..but seeing as /EA doesnt have the DDR Id like I dont think its overkill since you have almost nothing to help you during a cascading defense failure.

IMO Id go for the spiritual incarnates to get a little more recharge for energy drain and power siphon..tho the nerve sets would be a solid choice as well.

Having a lvl 50 DM/EA brute, I must say that's a really nice build BlissfulChaos. I like the extra slot on all the attacks that have the Kinetic Combats, it's really needed. I also agree that going as far over an EA brute's defense caps is recommended because EA really has no other mitigation (unlike WP or SD).

I'm wondering about the choice of Doctored Wounds IO set in Energy Drain though. Was it for the recharge bonus? If you have 5 mobs you could heal around 30% from it, or if you slot the Performance shifter set, you can fill your end bar from 2 mobs and get the extra 3% aoe def and 1.5% fire/cold plus 2.5 end recovery.

Also, any preference on taking Aid Self? I know the build is tight on power slots, but Energy Drain slotted for recharge and heal still has a long enough downtime that if a heavy hitter knocks you around you could run into trouble.

Thanks for the build Blissful. It's definitely nice to be able to see someone else's take on it and it gave me a few pointers. Out of curiosity (as I don't have Mids'), what is the recharge on Energy Drain with your slotting? (I am most definitely going with the Spiritual Alpha for the extra recharge, healing and stun)
Currently I'm trying to acquire Hero Merits so I can get the Kinetic Combats, those suckers are so damn expensive at WWs lol. The only power in your build that I don't see myself taking is Focused Accuracy. For some reason I just never liked the power because of its large end. drain, and the fact that it's now super easy to get +40-50% accuracy from sets (I used to have it on a few of my scrappers and the only time it ever really got used was if I was fighting a bunch of Rikti drones and I felt like it just sat there unused 95%+ of the time). But other than that, thanks for the awesome build to look at.

@nomorekrazy
Yes imo I would take aid self on a /ea brute..but my usual thing is to just tweak what the OP presents to best overall performance. Personally Id drop taunt and either dampening field or overload in favor of aid self. My reasoning for DW partly is the rech bonus..but also b/c the heal is so minimal while the end rec is decent on its own.

@sensai
Energy drain is up every...23 sec w/o hasten. I picked focused acc b/c its a nice way to get some nifty bonuses, namely the +2.5 def to all. Plus I really hate missing when i want to smash things. If you dont like it you can keep your softcaps to everything i mention above w/o it.

Not the biggest fan of Focused Accuracy, but if you're Claws, Kinetic or Dual Blades (and maybe Dark) you're going to want to take it.

Also, it doesn't just bring 20% Accuracy, it also brings 5% ToHit on top of that and ToHit Debuff resistance and Perception.

Back when it had 30% ToHit, I was one of those who nerfherded it because it was a ridiculously overpowered power. During one of the betas I found that the nerfbat did indeed fall on it, and I felt it was a much better power as 5% ToHit, enhanceable and 20% Accuracy, enhanceable. But then the nerfbat fell again and you could no longer enhance the 20% Accuracy. That, I felt, was a step too far. If the Accuracy isn't enhanceable, the power is too much on the weak side.

Power is still worth taking under certain conditions, but not under others. Much better than the silly power it used to be, but I do wish the Accuracy was allowed enhanceability again.
