Spines/Fire Scrapper vs. SS/Fire Brute

This is not so much a "which is better" as just some rambling about my experience playing both and trying to find a new farmer to level.

tl;dnr: The brute is massively superior at farming fire ambushes due to his higher resist cap and things not running out of burn.

Burn: What's the deal with scrapper burn? Nothing ever runs out of my brute's burn, but it seems like the scrapper's burn maybe wasn't fixed? Enemies mostly seem to run out of it and zoom around like headless chickens.

damage comparision:
Because I was curious, I put some simple #s into excel. This is leaving out build-up, fiery embrace & double stacking rage (because on mine I don't double stack at all yet). These simplified #s look pretty close, but in practice my spines/fire did not kill nearly as fast as the brute because nothing would stay in his burn patches.

Code:
........................dmg.....rech....dmg/80s
name....dmg.....rech....enc.....enc
stomp...59......20......2.4.....1
........200.6...10......................1604.8
burn....103.....25......2.4.....1
........350.2...12.5....................2241.28
blazing aura
........9.2.............2.4
........31.28...........................1251.2
................................total...5097.28

spine burst
........82......16......1.......1
........164.....8.......................1640
quills..10..............1
........20..............................800
burn....133.....25......1.......1
........266.....12.5....................1702.4
blazing aura
........13.7....1
........27.4............................1096
................................total...5238.4
Notes:
  • no target cap calculations included because all aoes have the same cap (10) and burn (5) and you should be hitting the target cap every time in a farm.
  • damage/80s because that came out even for the stomp/burst recharges.
  • I picked 2.4 for the brute damage modifier because, IIRC, my damage boost last night seemed to hang out last night at about 240%, on average. Of course min/maxers can get this higher.
  • I left out BU as well because this showed what I was curious about already: that their damages are, for simple builds, on fire farms, "roughly equivalent". Also because I am lazy and rarely use BU... but just figure BU would push the scrappers damage even higher.

Is this rough equivalence conclusion horribly off?

Anyway, so with that in mind I tried several farms last night. I could only handle a few on my scrapper, as all the running from burn patches drove me crazy. He couldn't handle near the same spawn sizes because nothing was dying fast enough and his lower resist cap meant he was taking 2.5x (25% vs 10%) the damage my brute was.

Both of my test characters had 85% SOs or common IOs, with a tiny bit of frankenslotting.

Thoughts:

  • The brute is now 38, and the scrapper is still sitting at 32. <.<
  • I think the Scrapper is more fun to play outside of the farms, but the brute is just a plain better farmer.
  • My previous farmer was a decked out bots/dark. The only improvements I could make in her build would be negligible. Yet, for AE farming, the brute is noticeably better. For non AE farms (unless I can find a good fire damage one), I'll stick with the MM.
  • The same calculations for a spines/fire brute indicate that it would be slightly less damage (4761), but without the rage drop and footstomp control. Of course, spines/ would have 2 more aoes to use...

Gotcha, that makes sense. I haven't look at taunt mechanics in a long time. Hmmm.
