I never really understood the concept of a petless MM and I have no concept of what you mean by a PUG Stalker... True stalkers used to be pretty useless on teams but since they got some love they do pretty decent damage .. I have run ITFs with a stalker along with no problem.

Now to the Bow Defenders.. Why is it that everyone is so down on Trick Arrow? NO it doesn't heal or Buff.. it holds and immobs, it slows and debuffs. I've teamed with any number of Arch/TA Defenders and see nothing wrong with the combination other than some people's notion that all Defenders MUST Heal, Rez and either Buff or Debuff.

Oh man, I love that stuff! Sorry, I'm at work and very hungry. And on topic, my Stalker is awesome in PUGs.

Both of my high level stalkers are pretty darned good teammates and don't seem any better/worse than my scrappers. I don't really get the hate.

Take a couple of competent bow defenders with you on an ITF or something like that. A couple of SGmates went on an ITF a few issues back (3 or 4) and it was mainly because of them that Nictus Rommy went down within less than 3 minutes.

I've missed you, Satanic Hamster. Your threadjacks always brighten my day.

What's more, I am in awe of your ability to threadjack without doing the threadjacking. It's like everyone else wants to threadjack for you.

I can map and suck. For instance, with my pure bowman Arrow Emperor, I can find that last little mish-completion-preventing minion hiding behind a crate, but I can also get my butt kicked on an early-stage solo mish. I blame it on AE's low level rather than his bowmanship.

I mean, would you tell Green Arrow that he sucks? To his face, that is, If he were real? Ollie has a notoriously bad temper... ; )

I'm not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing (I'm far too diplomatic for that). But what I see is a lot of people saying, "Our bow defenders are working out just fine, sounds like your problem, maybe you should learn how to play." Except, there's a lot of beating around the bush, and people are--in general--taking you way too seriously. I'm fairly suspicious that you DO know how to play, that all you're doing is having a bit of fun with us.

Anyway, on topic for a moment-- the thing is about Manticore, for me, isn't just game mechanics. I also think his characterization is cool. The way Mark Waid wrote him in the Phalanx's opening comics. His character, almost single-handed, set the tone for a really cool opening arc. Not just for the IP, either. Those were all-around good stories.

So, back off topic, maybe you're the type that only likes the best of the best of the best lining the slots of his character bank. I don't know. Some of us want a real fight every now and then. And by real fight, I mean the kind where the odds are stacked against you, and strategy and skill--not raw power--is the only way you MIGHT make it. When one thinks of an underdog character, you know, the "ordinary guy living in a super powered world" type of guy, the bow defender is one of the more classic (and obvious) options. These power sets clearly aren't brimming over with raw power. If they were, they wouldn't be NEARLY as fun to play.

Let's face it; he's a step above Aquaman. And that's not saying much.

[QUOTE=Satanic_Hamster;3448725]Let's face it; he's a step above Aquaman. And that's not saying much.

We have seen Namor the Submariner beat down the FF, yet somehow Aquaman took him out in the big Marvel vs DC Crossover. As a fan of both characters, I was still somewhat sceptical; Arthur Curry just doesn't have the raw power or invulnerabilty of Namor. But in comics, there are skill sets we don't have access to in CoX. For instance, there's no "cause a giant whale to leap out of the ocean and land on your opponent" power... ; )

Oliver Queen has teamed with Batman to defeat Superman. Knowing Bruce, if he hadn't absolutely needed someone else for his plan to work, Green Arrow wouldn't have been there. Yet he managed to sneak up on a guy with X-Ray vision, super-hearintg, etc., & put a Kryptonite arrow in Kal-El's personal space, literally with one arm.

To speak seriously for a moment, I agree with a previous poster that some of us might have toons who are mere mortals with highly honed skills, but that ain't a bad thing, if that's the kind of character you want to run. Silver Surfer vs. Batman is a no-contest in terms of actual power, but both characters are interesting in their own way. My 10th Level pure archer is in what I think of as "Year One" of his career; there is plenty of room to improve him to what I think of as Green Arrow or Hawkeye level.

Hmmm. Looking around, perhaps I should have called this thread "Why No Bios On Major NPCs And Do Bow Defenders Suck?" ; )
