In my defense !!!!

I am good with the softcap (I think) .... at 45% defense even level minions have the basic 5% to hit. What chances do Lts and bosses have (I know that different groups have different ToHits and Buffs) but I'd just like to know broadly.

The reason I am asking is for my fire/SD scrapper. He is currently running at the softcap, I have a Glad Armour Proc I can throw in (I found it in my bins believe it or not, totally forgot I had it) that would give me positional defense of 49%. Would that be worthwhile.

One option is that I can throw in maneuvers and get those up to 53% in place of aid self which gave me a 23% heal.

I could also purple things up, lose aid self and knock 7 seconds off hasten and have def of 50 or keep aidself, still purple up and have def at the softcap.

Playstyle he has fire mastery for epic so he is an AOE toon but id like to make him as survivable as possible, being fire/sd single target dam is not a problem.

Defense above 45% doesn't do anything for you... until you run into defense debuffs or enemies with tohit buffs.

LTs, bosses, and higher level enemies get accuracy modifiers to make things easier to hit you. More defense doesn't help here, because the defense brings them to 5% chance to hit and then the accuracy modifiers kick in.

Good to know. I always assumed all numbers were calculated and then the minimum was applied.

It's actually applied twice.

The exact formula is here. It's a little mathy, but your defense goes in the DefMods part of the equation.

HitChance = Clamp( AccMods × Clamp( BaseHitChance + ToHitMods – DefMods ) )

The bonuses that critters get for being a higher level than you, or for being a Lt/Boss/EB/AV/GM are accuracy modifiers, so they apply to the AccMods part.

And although more defense won't help (except to offset enemy buffs, which are usually so huge they're hard to cancel out, and debuffs, which are often small enough that some extra defense can help), if you're curious, you can see exactly what chance enemies had to hit you by looking in the combat log, and also by adding "last hit chance" to your combat attributes monitor.

Actually, the "Last Hit Chance" is your chance to hit the enemy, not their chance to hit you... unless you have used a Power Analyzer Mk. on them and are thus viewing all their stats.

Hmm, to be precise, up to +5 levels higher than you, all the "innate" bonuses are merely Accuracy. At +6 they throw in to-hit bonuses.

And if anyone is wondering, the "clamp" (enforcing the minimum to-hit) happens after Accuracy as well because some powers have a less-than-1.0 accuracy.
