Role playing?

Do any of the severs RP anymore? I just started CoH/CoV again after more than a year... I came back... and well... RPing seems to have disappeared... So... Is all lost for CoH/CoV Role playing? If not... where should I look for it?

Your best bet is likely to find a Roleplaying supergroup/villaingroup. RPing tends to take place within communities, but not in the game at large. However, I believe that Virtue is supposed to be the unofficial RP server, so you might also want to check that out.

Sadly I have found RP to be lacking. The only server that RPs in the open is Virtue, but even then it is hard to find outside of Pocket D. The best bet is to find a group you can squeeze into as I have been trying to get resituated in RP, but since the game is old, so are many circles, and it has been exceedingly difficult to intigrate into any SGs I have found and been interested in.

Of the 5 I have joined recently (Within the last year) I have been able to get a head in one and been able to enjoy the events, the RP and the group, but it was a brand new SG. Three of the others were too involved in a plot, already, I have been unable to get involved, due to not knowing what was going on and no one willing to inform me. One I even tried to ignore the plot and be an event organizer (TFs specifically) And only managed to run one of the three TFs I had planned, as everyone was too involved in other things. The last Sg I just joined, not too long ago, and haven't seen many on, so it's still in the air.

This is just my experiences, but from what I have seen, RP is still around, but it is shattered. It is hard to get a plot going outside of an SG, and even in an Sg, if you arn't known in the circles in those SGs, it's probably going to be very hard, unless it's a new SG. Your Milage May Vary, but I have been very unlucky in the department of statistics concerning RP, lately.

With Love,
Me! <3

It's still there. I usually talk in character on teams, and if I do it, other people start doing it too.

RP is not, IMHO, at its best as a separate activity undertaken instead of missions or arcs. It's at its best as the way you play your missions and arcs.

Consider the difference:

/b Hey, all you hero types! I got a hot tip that the Council is planting some pulse charges that could blow up an office building, I wanna stop them. Could use some backup.

After five years of playing CoH, I think I can say that any desire for superhero roleplay of any level from street-level up to epic would be better served by participating in an offline, table-top roleplaying group, doing HERO system (or any other RPG) gameplay.

No matter how focused you may be on your particular situation, in CoH you're in a world that's filled with thousands of other players who are all "out of character". At best, it's distracting. At worst, it ruins the mood you're trying to build, again and again.

Unless everyone's focused on roleplaying, it just doesn't come out well -- even in a table-top game. At least in the table-top RPG you can choose and filter who you're playing with; keep the good roleplayers, don't re-invite bad ones to the game.

I disagree that it's that much of a problem. Play with your friends, close the broadcast tab, and you're in your own world. Hell, sometimes it's fun to RP about the out of character characters.

Roleplaying can likely be found on every server, it takes finding the people that do or starting your own group. I routinely RP on Protector with a group of people and we RP mission arcs, TF's, and create AE missions specifically for RP purposes. But most of the RP'ing goes on outside of game content.

I recommend hitting up each of the server sections and look for RP groups there, or the RP section down in the For Fun portion of the forums, that may give you the best lead for in-game RP groups.

And welcome back to the game.

Edit: I agree with Dechs, the general playerbase really has no effect on our group when we RP. We'll use Coalition chat if there is more than one team going, or local depending on what we are doing. There was one instance when a friend and I were RP'ing a lunch outside of a pub and one of the locals mistook us for NPC's, actually did a double-take because we were in civilian clothing at a table.

It's quite easy to pull off RP'ing in this environment.

If you're looking for a solid RP community, we're always welcoming more in the Codex on Virtue. Just follow the link in my profile and see if it sounds like what you're looking for.

There's plenty of other SGs and VGs who still have engaging, interesting stories as well! I really hope you find what you're looking for.

I once played a warlock who treated ALL channels as IC. So when people showed up asking what people thought about RP, she'd go into rants about how horrible it was.

Because, see, people who are pretending to be "computer gamers" don't take things seriously, and they just laugh when you torture them.

Six plus years of nonstop roleplay here. It happens all the time, every day, on every server. You just can't expect it to come and find you and interact with you--it takes some effort on your part.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
