Hi,

I'm making an arc in the MA and i want to include one of my SG-mate's toons in it. I vaguely recall that there's a way she can save her toon's costume and then send the file to me via email, but i can't remember exactly how to do this. Can anyone advise?

If she saves the costume in the tailor it should appear in a costumes (maybe, can't check right now) folder in her CoH install folder. If she emails you that you should be able to put it into your costumes folder and load it.

I can confirm that Diggis is correct. Every costume you save does appear in the costumes folder of your CoH install folder, e.g.

c:\Program Files\City of Heroes\costumes\

You can save your costume to this folder from Mission Architect as well as the Tailor.

In Paragon City since June 2005.

Go to the file, open it (as if to edit it), select all, then copy.

Send a message to your friend with a pasted copy of the file in a message.

Friend then copies what you sent, and pasting it into notepad, and saving it using the same naming convention as all other saved costumes.

That's how I've done it.

That seems more complicated than it has to be -- why not just attach the text file to an e-mail, and the recipient simply downloads the text file to the appropriate 'costumes' folder?

If you're already making an attachment using an outside email program, just have them attach the .costume file from the Costumes folder in your CoH drive.

I've had problems converting the "text" file to costume file process mentioned above - I've gotten errors and or problems with it getting all the pieces over (or recognizing the conversion at all). Just easier to do the regular .costume file.

While attaching a file and sending it is perfectly fine...

Copying the contents of the file and pasting it has benefits.

You can transfer them via an in-game email or even on the forums.

Also, there should not be any problem in making that text a proper costume file (I've done this many times, though it has been a little bit).

Copy ALL of the text in the file (simple enough) and give it/post it.
Then open notepad, put that text into it. Save the file into the CoH costumes folder (Vista users need to know where to find the real one and not some clown honkery fake one... or just don't use Vista please!) and name the file and end it with .costume and the only reason you should get a problem is if you don't make sure it isn't still adding a .text to the file.
Make sure to check ALL FILES and not just TEXT FILES and/or simply make sure the full file name ends in .costume and not .text.

Sure... if this is too much for the intended user, then sending them the actual file may be best.

However, it really is a simple matter.
I know some users may not have full file names visible, so they may want to do that in their windows options.

It really is a great feature.

So, yeah... to the OP, either copy the file from your CoH costume folder and send it as an attachment or copy all of the text and throw that at them and (if they don't know what to do with it) tell them how to save it as a .costume file in notepad!

Good luck!!

Just in case that wasn't clear enough (And I had the situation backwards)...

She needs to save the costume at the tailor.
Then she needs to find that file in her CoH costume folder (default C:City of Heroes/costumes)
Then she needs to either attach that file to an email...
or

  • Open that file in notepad (or a similar simple pure text program such as Wordpad... but not Word)
  • Copy all of the text (CTRL A to select all, CTRL C to copy)
  • Paste that on the forums or in an in-game email or on a website (where ever is determined for you to get it)

Then you need to...
  • Copy all of that text
  • Paste it into a new notepad file
  • Save As...
    • towards the bottom of the "Save As..." window there is an option for "Save as type". Click on the drop down menu to select "All Files" (As opposed to "Text Files Only")
    • Name the file whatever you wish to name it (likely the original character's name) and end it with .costume
  • Save the file to the correct location (the "costume" folder) within your City Of Heroes installation (City Of Heroes\costume).
The file should be
Quote:
MyFriendsCostume.costume

If there is anything else after the ".costume" you didses it wrong.
Open up the file and "save as..." again and make sure to delete anything after .costume and make sure it is set to save as "All Files" and not "Text Files only".
(The Text Files Only option will automatically put a .txt at the end of your file, no matter what you type in the naming field)

Load it up in the tailor/AE and have at it!!

I hope we helped!!
