The 20 hour "Fame" timers:
the problem is, if they did that, some players would simply start missions to start the timer, then not actually complete the mission.
Starting the timer at the start of the mission on the condition of mission completing is not an option either. Doing so would require creating an additional database entry everytime a tip-mission is started, then keeping track of that entry to the point of the mission completion. This would also require additional database work to handle whether or not players exit a tip mission, whether or not they invite team-mates to the tip mission, as well as whether or not players do not complete the mission and come back to it at a later time.
Tying the timer to the completion of the mission assures that the players will actually complete the mission, and allows the developers to leverage the reward calculation systems already in the game, rather than having to create brand new systems.
Also: if this is what you consider a buzz kill, you really need to learn what a buzz kill is. I suggest listening to Nightwish's Ghost Love Score and then have somebody switch the track to anything by the Black Eyed Peas / Fergi.
That is a Buzz Kill.
Er... they said nothing about that. It's not about starting the timer at the start the mission at all.
It's for those people who finish the mission and just quit instead of exitting.

Thing is, argument remains the same. Tying the counter into exiting the mission allows the developers to leverage existing tech, rather than having to develop new tech.

Whatever makes the "Mission Complete" text appear and exit button pop up could start the timer, rather than exiting the mission starting the timer like it does now. That's hardly new tech.
I think that's an excellent idea. I've sometimes logged out on completing a mission to avoid loading the outside world, if I'm in a hurry.
Small request about the way it's handled, as I'm a returning player and was very excited to think that I would be able to take my villain to rogue status and start having access to Paragon City tonight on one of my characters: make the Fame counter start the moment the mission is completed and not the moment I exit the mission. I logged out immediately upon completing an alignment mission last night, ready to finish the path to becoming a rogue today, only to find that one counter only started because I just exited the mission when I logged in.

Couldnt we just finish our 10th tip and have any remaining tips be converted over to their equivalent Morality version. Then when that Mission is completed any "tips" on your rack are converted back to regular "tip missions". I actually did 12 regular tips the other day before I realized why I was not getting my Merit reward. Hey I was tired.

I am not sure what exactly you are asking for here, but there is one aspect of Tips that I seriously want to change. That is the fact that you cannot get a Morality Mission to drop until you FINISH your 10th tip. I have often been doing my 10th tip and had a full rack of tips(3) when the mission ended. Now what ? I need to dismiss at least one tip and do something else to get that Morality mission to drop.

As far as the original idea goes, I agree completely. The tech already exists, as that's what finishes arcs and gives you Merit rewards, so it can simply be used to reset your tip status. After all, your clues disappear when the Tip mission ends.

Not that I'm against it, but seeing as how you know...instead of completeing the mission and logging out, why not just exit the mission?
I mean, yes, it's a QoL change, but if it even took a few hours, I'd rather they work on something else, than something people can just hit the exit button on, and be done with.

You hit exit, load old zone, then log out.
If you are falling asleep at the keyboard or have a slwo system this can feel like a small eternity.
Because you can't hit exit and be done.

Personally, I prefer a game that's bug-free and refined over one with a lot of stuff where the bones of the system are always showing. Those kinds of quality of life changes put more value into the game, in my opinion.

Semi-related sidenote - completing a morality mission wipes your tip inventory.

Well in that case, you should have all your remaining tips converted into a random Morality mission upon completion of your 10th tip mission.

While it's unfortunate the game forces us to exit a mission in order to start the fame timer I would actually hate to see the Devs waste one second of development time to make this work any differently. At best this was a one time annoyance that the OP experienced. This is not a game-breaking bug that needs to be fixed or even a legitimate "QoL" issue that has no obvious workaround. This is a "lesson learned" that will not likely be repeated now that the OP knows how the game works. Sure it would have been nice if he didn't have to waste some time learning from that, but now that he has it's a moot point for the Devs to "fix" it.
I have never once logged out of the game like this PRECISELY because it's uncertain to me exactly how the game would handle this scenario. I would never expect the game to react to something like this as assumed. Sure it'd be nice if the game held my hand a did everything the way I wanted but I'm willing to accept there are things it'll never be "smart" enough to handle perfectly. This being one of them. *shrugs*

Huh... so THATs why there is nothing on the rack afterwards. I had not noticed that fact before. But then I am the "airhead" that just admitted doing 12 tips before selecting the morality mission.
Well in that case, you should have all your remaining tips converted into a random Morality mission upon completion of your 10th tip mission. |
Blazara Aura LVL 50 Fire/Psi Dom (with 125% recharge)
Flameboxer Aura LVL 50 SS/Fire Brute
Ice 'Em Aura LVL 50 Ice Tank
Darq Widow Fortune LVL 50 Fortunata (200% rech/Night Widow 192.5% rech)--thanks issue 19!

Converting tips to morality missions is a bad idea, since you can - and some do - keep doing Tip missions and just ignore the Morality mission. Or you can do tips for other alignments and get them both to 10.
