Weapons
A friend of mine recently informed me that Maelstrom had functional holsters. I somehow didn't notice this, myself, when I fought him, mostly because I never saw him draw his guns, but that sounds promising.

I think that Maelstrom is a hint that they're trying to get functional holsters and sheathes into the game - we'll have to wait to see if they're satisfied with the results enough to propagate it to PCs.
@Roderick
Yep. Especially when you remember that, before we got /Shields, we got Romans in Cimerora, and one of the devs commented that the NPCs got the set first because NPCs are easier to tweak, so it let them get some major bugs out of the way quicker.

So I'm playing on the safe side to make this suggestion thread

Speaking of weapon holsters and sheaths and such, I'd like to point out that not all weapons need those. Pistols need holsters, obviously, and katanas would probably have a sheath, but something like the back-slung broadsword or, indeed, the battle axe, probably wouldn't need them. You can just hand the sword on your back, Prince of Persia style, and run around with that.
Considering a sheath or holster would need to be the shape of the weapon, I assume if this ever happens we'll get a single item per weapon, and probably the ability to retain the current hammerspace design. And I'd be perfectly happy with that.

So I had a crazy idea as I was mulling about my usual schedule of the day.
What if, I thought, there were another dropdown choice for "back detail".
I have seen Combat Auras from the Cyborg pack and after playing around with that notion, and quite pleased with how well it works as a side note, I thought... what if there were an option for "non-combat" things.
The most specific thing that came to mind was weapons sheathed on the back. We have seen models in the game that have weapons resting on their backs, and even in vanilla Coh (reference http://pcmedia.gamespy.com/pc/image/coh_033104_006.jpg). Could this be an option for those with weapons to give their characters just a little more depth? Other classes can customize their powers but classes with weapons are limited (very limited actually, though it's definitely better than nothing... I love nothing more than to whack some poor guy in the face with a shovel and send him flying in the air) to a few options on how their actual weapon looks.
What if, I pondered, that hero that wields a Katana were given the option to have a sword hilt at his side when not in combat? What if that Tanker with a broadsword and a shield could have them crossed upon his back while not in use? What if gun-toting heroes and villains alike could sling their rifles over their backs and holster their guns at their waists (or in their belts for you gangster types)?
Now obviously this doesn't have to include new animations to fit these new options to the letter, in fact that would be a terrible amount of work. I just think it would add another level of immersion if people weren't just whipping battle axes and shields from their back or belt and you could actually give people the option to see what your weapon is and where it's coming from if you so chose (and to make it easier selecting the option of your weapon showing would make the weapon you actually use... show wherever you have it showing... for example if you wield an Impervium Katana, an Impervium Katana would be hanging from your belt with the color scheme it's currently in.
To my knowledge it shouldn't take a terrible amount of coding as the items are already in existence, and new, inactive ones would just need to be made to fit where you select it.
The tricky part is... would a non-combat only costume piece be viable? I'm not a coder in the least sense so I'm asking, logic can only tell me that if the game can recognize when you are in combat it can tell when you are not so it can choose to display something accordingly depending on what it finds by reversing the circumstance.
Apologies for the long-winded post *bow*
