CoX keeps Crashing on me

I have not done a disc clean or defrag. I figured since I bought the HDD yesterday it should be ok, and the same thing happens on safe mode also. I have also been getting BSOD while updating windows, loading programs and just using the PC in general. They are usually: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the new while trying to check this forum was: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXEMPTION

it is always a good idea after installing that much to do a defrag. i know you have a 500gig but that is a lot of fragmented files floating around. try that first and see what happens.

Tried the defrag and nothing changed. I'm going to call XFX support and see what they say. If all else fails, i'm just gonna get another MoBo, and return the bad one in the new box

Could be a bad power supply or one that's not powerful enough to handle your system. How many watts is it?

1100W Just bought it a few months ago. It was tested when I took it into Tiger Direct/ Comp USA and it was working just fine. I sent a support ticket to XFX Support, but it seems they don't work weekends, and with Monday being Labor Day, I probably won't get a response until Tuesday at the earliest.

Check your memory timings in BIOS. Don't trust 'Auto'

If still nothing: you've checked your RAM, your sound, your psu. It's your motherboard. This is my opinion.

Try monitoring your temperatures. Since it's crashing no matter what you do even browsing the web there is a good chance your cpu is overheating.

Temps are fine, always under 45C when playing (Speed Fan), but it crashes even when It's not being used. I'll come back after watching TV or something and I'll have an error report "Windows has recovered from a serious error" or It will just be frozen on the screen saver.

Out on a limb here, since I've been having issue with mine, but did you say your chipset drivers were up to date?

With the new hard drive, new os install, new ram etc... it really might be your mobo. Hopefully it is, because if not then this one is going to be about impossible to track down. The only other alternative I could think of would be a bad power supply that is putting out unstable voltages.

Yes, I updated those also. Unfortunately XFX still hasn't replied, probably due to the weekend/holiday. Hopefully I'll get something back soon, so I don't have to spend any more money.

I have no idea how to do that.... I know where it is but I don't know what to do when I get there. Any help?

Sorry, I'm logged into my account instead of my Bro's, but Manos is me. (he is computer duh) I finally got a response from XFX and they basically said that it could be a possability but usually if the DIMM's are bad the PC won't boot. So they requested the info from my BSOD's (I've had 14 of them in the past 3 days, and I'm barely useing his PC)

Bad timings can indeed lead to system instability, even if it manages to boot up. Do you happen to know what RAM you purchased?

If you do, you're looking for 4 numbers, ie., 7-7-7-20... These numbers are CAS Latency—RAS to CAS Delay—RAS Precharge—TRAS. They're always in that order, so you don't really have to remember what they stand for. Just locate the DRAM TIMINGS setting in your BIOS. You should consult your motherboard manual if you're unsure.

Another possibility is RAM voltage. If your RAM has too much or too little voltage, it can also lead to instability. There is a setting in the BIOS for this as well.

Disclaimer: If you are unable to find the proper values, leave the BIOS settings alone. I would wholheartedly recommend you do find what your RAM is rated for however.

Good luck with XFX!

I have a Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400 The timings are 5-5-5-18. I checked the voltage also, it is at 1.9

I have noticed that I keep getting BSOD's ever since I upgraded to Windows 7, with XP the only thing that keeps crashing is the game and occasionally Firefox.

I don't want to jinx anything, BUT... I manually set the memory timings like you suggested and the game didn't lock up! I did several missions and played for almost 30min just now. May not seem like much but the game was locking up within seconds of logging in so It's a pretty big deal! I'll have my bro play tomorrow to be sure, but I think that did it. Thanks for all the help everybody, I'll post a follow up tomorrow. It's bed time

Congratulations! Hopefully, it stays problem-free. Be sure that the BIOS also has the DRAM set for 1.9V.

YES! my brother was able to play for over 2hrs today with not even a hint of lag, let alone locking up. I can't adjust the voltage on the memory for some reason, but it's default is 1.9V so I guess it's ok. Thanks for all the help everybody, you're the best!
