My First Dominator Feels and Plays Like A Blaster
As of Issue 15, Dominator damage is now set at a higher base - at or above Blaster damage - WITHOUT Domination.
Domination still does affect Hold/Stun/Immob/etc magnitudes for as long as its up. From Paragon Wiki on Issue 15: The base Damage Scale for melee will be increased from .75 to 1.05, and ranged from .65 to .95, a significant increase. Also, Plant has a TON of team utility. You get Seeds of Confusion at 8, which is a huge deal for low level teams. You get Creepers at 26, which definitely helps in mob mitigation and absorbing alphas. The pet AI was also revamped, so it's now no longer as horrible as Jack Frost. ![]() With all of the changes done to Doms, they play more like Blasters than Blasters do. ![]() |
You are full of it....
Many dominators played like blasters before issue15. The problem was the average player couldn't grasp how to play a dominator or a blaster for that matter. Now? Its easy!!! YAY!!
Post deleted for redundancy and dissing a Development God.
a dom does indeed play more like a blapper or blaster than controller,
One of the major differences was (before i15 but still hoolds true, is dom is an auto power, not hasten) is dom is status resistance AND then you can hold....lol. Eventually, once you get enough recharge thu IOs, dom being on auto, its like blaster damage, with no mez. Its great. Blap with no worries, my dom is just a killing machine once he gets going.
Some of the red side AT's just didn't translate well to the players. I still think if people figured out a MM with taunt/provoke works just like a tauntbot tanker, some of the red side ATs would be more popular. A dom is kinda blapper with the ability to take out a single target or mediate alpha.
You will have alot of fun with your toon once you get it down.
I've always felt that Doms play like weaker Blasters but with much better "secondaries" - even though Control is the primary set. I feel Doms are generally safer and provide more for a team, but the AT has had problems due to huge balance issues in the past. But the three or so buffs to the AT have helped a bit, as near as I can tell. I am still getting the feel of things, but I still believe Doms are very much like Blasters.
Solo, I feel the play styles are closer. On teams, I feel the Control sets are far more valuable than the utility of "Manipulation" sets.

It takes a lot more shoving to make Red side ATs fit that idea.
And while the damage is awesome, I think people are undervaluing the controls a little, especially on a team. You can lock down things that get angry at you for blaster, but taking bosses and problem lieutenants out of the picture is also very nice for everybody. Holding that Spectral Daemon Lord who's siting in the middle of the meleers with Chill of the Night running is high five worthy. And then once Domination hits, any fight where your AoE control is up becomes an unmitigated slaughterfest.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
