Side-Switching question

Call Me Awesome

I finished all the tip missions and made the switch to Hero this morning. In my contact list I have one contact: Lorenz Alsondo. So how do I get my first real Hero contact? Since I'm magic origin, I tried going to Azuria, hoping she would refer me to a level 5-10 contact and I could just follow that trail until I got a contact in my level range. But she said that she was not part of my destiny and I should go talk to the Architect Entertainment Studio Manager. (Which is stupid cause I did that little AE intro talk missions villian side. Nevertheless, I went and did them again, and he had nada to say to me when it was over.)

So my question remains: how do I get my first Hero contact? Should I just do radio missions until the detective gives me a new contact? Is this the normal procedure, so I know what to do next time? I kinda thought the first Hero contact should be provided, but it wasn't. Popups told me I should go see Montague and Kevin Nance, but I didn't get a new Hero normal contact.

Do some radio missions and the Detective should give you a contact after a safeguard. That's all I can think of at the moment.

You should have gotten Montague Castanella as a contact the instant you switched, as well as the Dark Mirror contact in Talos (if you're under L30, anyways). Oh, and Admissions Officer Lenk at the university. My L28 Stalker did when he went Hero just an hour or so ago.

Yes, I got all those and went to them and got their missions. I'm just kinda wondering why you don't automatically get your first normal origin contact.

Someone just suggested this to me in broadcast a minute ago. I'm now in the process of doing just that.

Well, unlike redside, you don't have any use for your level 1-5/Origin contact blueside since you go to the City Representative for your cape & auras.

By "first normal origin contact" I meant your first HERO normal origin contact. When you switch to hero-side, you lose all your contacts, so I would have thought that the game would provide you with at least one new hero contact to get you started, and that it probably would be one of the contacts for your level range and of your origin.

In order to have any contacts in CoH, you are referred by another contact. This is what makes starting Hero-side after a switch so problematic. Without ANY contacts, the only method for getting new contacts (before radio missions and detectives) used to be to see your first origin contact and then you could ride the chain of referred contacts until you got to the one for your level range.

As it is, I did get a contact from the detective for my level range (in Talos Island) after a safeguard mission and I just went from there.

IIRC, you can go and talk to contact in Crotoa without reference. Crotoa contact chain could get you to level 35 alone.

Also, Jim Tremblor in Faultline.

Orc&Pie No.53230 There is an orc, and somehow, he got a pie. And you are hungry.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.

Yes. And Montague will introduce you to a random regular contact in your level range after the first or second mission (can't remember which - but I'll find out today as my Stalker goes through ''Lost and Found'').

EDIT: Yep. After the first mission (rescuing Percy). My L27 Stalker got Eliza Thorpe in Talos.

Most likely this'll work for Striga and The Hollows then too, since it works for Croatoa and Faultline.

Not totally sure about that. Faultline and Croatoa are a little newer than the other two.

It should for Strigga anyway... since you have to be 20 to switch sides the Hollows is outleveled already. Stephanie Peebles (AKA in my SG "That Smokin' Hottie") is a walk up contact.

COH has just been murdered by NCSoft. http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes

Works for The Hollows too. Many of my characters wander over to talk to David when I'm in the area of the hollows gate in atlas park, just so they don't have to do that stupid mission where you need to go across a whole zone and click on him.

But that's kinda a moot point for side switching due to the whole out leveled thing.

General rule is any zone that's been added or revamped (that wasn't part of CoV or GR type expansion) has walk up contacts assuming you're in the level range.

Maybe they force you into a Safeguard (less the walk-up contacts) to make you feel more at home since red-side you pretty much have to run Mayhems to get contacts.

Ya think?

Keep in mind that the mechanism of previous Contacts from the old "level band" (10-20, 20-30, 30-40) referring you to new Contacts happens only in Paragon City. Villains must do Mayhem Missions as they cross each level band to open up the Contacts in that Zone. So the devs are anticipating that you already know that mechanism exists to open up Contacts.

It would have been nice if the devs did give you a free Contact in your level band when you switch sides, but it was easier to just require you to do a Safeguard Mission. And in fact, you can do Safeguard Missions as a Rogue and unlock the Contacts even though you cannot access them yet. So it was at least possible to anticipate the switch and have some Contacts waiting for you.

The good news is, once you unlock a "regular" contact, they will continue to unlock Contacts across subsequent level bands, in Paragon City anyway.

I've heard that Winscott and others can be approached before they are introduced. i haven't tried it myself. Faultline has some odd bugs related to contacts. Jim Tremblor is introduced by a new contact as an "introduction" mission. If you do a mission for another contact before seeing Tremblor you may get him as a contact. It's a bit confusing and seems wasteful.

If you don't do the Faultline arcs but have a contact there they will insist on introducing another Faultline contact even though you have outlevelled the zone. I've had Doc Delilah and Agent G show up as active contacts post level 30.

Agent G was still availble for me at level 50. I was able to breeze through his arc in few minutes for 15 merits reward.
