Installation

I have just signed up for the 14 day trial after having previously played CoH before.

My problem is that I apparently had an old version of the client on my machine from years ago which I patched up to get the trial but it appears I had either the American version of the client or some old version which has since changed as whenever I try to log in with my new log in details it wouldnt let me (says login details not recognised) - I had to set up a whole new account and now the only way I can log in successfully is by double clicking on a file which has appeared on my desktop called cohupdater.eu every time as every other launcher in my Program Files folder takes me to the American (or whatever it is) launcher and wont let me know log in. This clearly isnt right.

Basically what I want to know is if I uninstall ALL City of Heroes files and reinstall the client from the EU website from scratch, will I lose the character I have already started or is the character linked to the account rather than the physical client data files so when I uninstall the old client data files it wont disappear and will come back when I log in after having reinstalled?

Hope this makes sense and any advice would be appreciated.

It's linked to the account. Your graphics settings are the only thing that's stored locally (in the registry). Some of the stuff can be explored from the game to the local system (window layout, chat layout, and binds, standard settings, off the top of my head) but stay remote.

Delete away!

I think though if you are starting a new Trial Account you would not have access to the characters from the last account.

Enjoy your day please.

I believe the characters he's talking about are the ones on the trial. He's making sure that he can reinstall the game without risking losing anything on the current trial.

WAIT WAIT WAIT

You don't have to uninstall and reinstall in order to get the EU version instead of the NA version! Don't do it! You're wasting valuable (maybe ) time!

Just go into your installation folder and change "CohUpdater.exe" to "CohUpdater.eu.exe" - then right click the newly renamed file, select "Copy", right click your desktop, select "Paste". Run the newly create file on your desktop, and when it asks you to install the game, point it at your current installation folder.

THAT'S IT!!! You now have an EU installation and saved yourself a lot of time.

You can delete the copied updater from your desktop, and the extra crap it placed there when you ran it.

Thats great, I will give it a try tonight, thanks for the info. Its also good to know that if it doesnt work, I can still uninstall and reinstall and keep my character which I spent all that time creating

Thanks again!
