Animation Times & Redraw
Here's the scoop: Redraw DOES hurt DPS these days.
A while back all the drawn weapon sets had their redraw time baked into the animation time so that redraw supposedly didn't hurt overall DPS at all. I don't recall if that was true or not.
Then the devs thankfully yanked that baked in redraw time from most if not all of the weapon sets which in some cases made a considerable difference in DPS. In the case of claws, it was so drastic, some felt, that Castle created a whole new equation that adjusted the damage output of each attack based on its cast time.
Because of all this, redraw DOES hurt DPS considerably these days. (Note: the term "considerably" is subjective.)
Be well, people of CoH.

That's what most people (including the Devs) thought. It wasn't until post-Dual Blades when BaBs started adjusting all the sets that they realized that a lot of powers had the wrong length of pauses! In many cases, redrawing would grealy improve DPS, due to wonky animation timings.A while back all the drawn weapon sets had their redraw time baked into the animation time so that redraw supposedly didn't hurt overall DPS at all. Now-a-days, most all the weapon sets have been converted to 'penalized' by redraws (as opposed to how it original was suposed to be, where you were screwed either way). IIRC, Spines might be the only set that still has the pauses built in... because Castle didn't want to touch that set with a 10 foot pole, due to fear of what he'd have to do to it, and then what the players would do to him in turn! *
* Events might have been dramatized for my personal amusement

We tried this back when we were doing the "Myth Smashers" column, and that's why it only went two or three episodes. Because SOME attacks had redraw baked in and SOME did not ... it was maddeningly inconsistent. Activating an attack, if I remember, uses [or used] the longer of activation time or animation time, which was not well known at the time. There was also the mysterious "lag time" [now identified, understood, and named after Arcanaville.] So it was not a particularly simple thing.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
Always reading about people complaining about redrawing weapons and animation times of some powers. Do either of those actually affect things like dps? A long long long time ago I believe I remember someone posting a thread that proved redraw doesn't add time to an attack but I'm not 100% sure on what it had read. How I thought things worked for the longest time was even if no animations went off and you just stood there, the time it took you to activate the power and the time dmg appeared on the mob would be the same as when animations were running.
